Fighting For Her

Stockholm Syndrome (?)

Weeks had passed since I found the lady in black on the tapes. Nothing new had come up, Everly’s face had died down from the news. Her mother was beginning to lose hope. It was up to me to find this girl, to save her. Brooke and Niall began growing closer and closer. We all had planned out several things together. Exams had come and gone and now my mind was free of the stress from school and my only thoughts were of Everly and how I could find her.

I waited for the light to turn so I could walk across the street to my car and go home. Playing with my hands, I looked around the quiet streets. A couple down the road was arguing. I rolled my eyes at the sight. My parents argued all the time when I was a child before they had gotten a divorce. I hated hearing couples argue.

I began to cross the street when I heard the couple grow louder in their argument. I looked over at them and my eyes fixated on a tall woman. Her black hair was blowing in the wind. She had on a black leather jacket with dark jeans. She seemed mad about something. She crossed her arms and began getting into her car, shutting out the man who was still screaming at her. I had finally found her again and I wasn't letting her get out of my sight.

Quickly, I ran to my car. I hopped in and sped off, catching the red light. The lady in black drove a large Cadillac and was only a couple of blocks ahead of me. I drummed my fingers against the leather steering wheel of my car. I shut the radio off because the thoughts in my head were already too loud. The light flashed green and my foot nailed into the gas pedal, speeding off towards the Cadillac. She turned down a long road. I knew an alley that connected to the road and took that so she wouldn’t think I was following her. I stayed about a block behind her.

Finally, she pulled down a road that did not have much on it. I was sure to stay a ways away. A couple houses stood on the road here and there. Soon she approached a larger house on a hill. A long driveway led up the hill. Now what do I do? I hadn’t planned this far! I was just going and going and now I’m here and….now what?! I tapped my foot and grabbed my phone.

I stopped the car, parking on the side of the road and stepped out. I crept up to the house looking around. The sun was going down as the moon began to sneak it’s way up into the night sky. I walked into the field next to the house, trying to make my way to the back of it. The house was huge! The backyard was also large, with a pool and everything. These people had money, that’s for sure. I wonder what they want with Everly…?
The sun had finally gone down and the only light I had was the light shining down from the moon. There was nothing unusual about the house as far as I could see. I walked a bit closer down to the house and noticed a door in the ground, as if there was a tornado shelter or something. I walked closer to the door and put my ear against it, not being able to hear anything. I grabbed the handle and began pulling on it. I was finally able to open it. It wasn’t locked, but seemed like it hadn’t been used in days.

“What the fuck?” I thought. A stairwell led me down into a basement. I peered around the door, scared to step out. A large hallway ran through the basement, lined with steel doors that had small windows at the top. By each door was a small keypad. I stepped into the hallway, and looked into one of the windows. It was dark, but I could see the figure of a small girl lying in a bare bed. I gulped and went to the next one. Another girl. What was this? A large door ahead began to buzz. I ran back to the stairwell and sat at the top, listening to the voices echoing up the hallway. “Which girl were you wanting to see today, sir?” The lady in black spoke. Her voice had been burned into my mind. My stomach clenched tight as I heard the voices speak of these girls like animals. “Everly? She’s new. Shy girl, but fun I’m sure. Beautiful young one!” The sound of her name escaping the lady’s lips made me want to vomit.
“Okay, I paid for an hour! Let’s get a move on.” The man snarled.
I snuck my head around the stairwell wall and looked at the two walking to a room. I quickly took out my phone, opened the camera, zoomed in, and recorded the placement of the lady in black’s fingers on the keypad. The door buzzed and the man disappeared inside.
With that, I jumped up and left the house. Running and running until I reached my car and climbed inside. I immediately called Niall.
“Niall! I found her. I found Everly.” My voice was shaking and my mind was darting in different directions.
“We’ve gotta help her Niall, I need your help, man.” I told him what happened, every detail.
And with that, we formed a plan.
