Fighting For Her

Spaces

“Harry! This is my friend Brooke. We met earlier this semester and have become closer lately do to some things…” Niall’s voice trailed off.
“Hi Brooke, nice to meet you!” I said taking my hand out to shake hers. She was a cute girl. She was very tan, had short blondish-brown hair and bright green eyes!
“Harry! Nice to meet you! Niall’s been telling me about you and the other boys!”
“Oh has he? Good things I hope?”
“Of course! There is something I wanted to talk to you about, though.”
Hm, that’s odd. I wondered what it could be considering I had just met this girl.
We sat down at the kitchen table; Liam was making us all dinner as he usually did at least twice a week. We liked to kind of switch off a bit, when we could.
“This is going to sound odd Harry, so bare with me!” Oh god.
“Okay, so… my friend and I always kind of saw you and Niall together on campus and we always thought you two were pretty attractive….gosh this is so awkward!” She laughed and Niall’s face began turning a few different shades of red.
“That’s flattering,” I said with a sly grin.
She chuckled a bit before continuing, “Well my roommate, and friend, always wanted to speak to you, but she’s a bit shy with new people and uh, she never got the chance to talk to you…” she trailed off and I could see her usual bubbly personality transition into a concerning look. She played with her hands on the table and sniffled a bit. Niall wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into a hug. “It’s okay Brooke, she’s okay.” He said rubbing her back.
“Brooke? What’s going on?” I said, confused.
“Harry, Niall told me about how you wanted to find Everly. Everly is my roommate Harry. She never got to talk to you and now she may never have the chance.” She burst into more tears and I could feel the tears forming into my eyes. She knew who I was. Everly knew who I was and now I know for a fact that I must find this girl.

It seemed that just as my eyes grew heavy and began to close, the alarm clock beside my bed began going off. I couldn’t sleep last night. Everly’s face played every second in my brain. I stalked her social network accounts, trying to find a clue. There was nothing on there. I googled her name, but only missing articles showed up. I would have to set out on my own to find her, but where would I even start…
I went to the coffee shop we both always went to and ordered a latte. The girl behind the counter gave me a smile. “Well, that’s a bit different from your usual coffee, isn’t it?” I gave her a smile and nod then my face grew serious. “I need to speak with you…privately, if that’s possible?” She looked over to her co-worker, who gave her an approving nod. “Okay, meet me out back.” She grabbed her cell phone, being cautious and met me behind the café.
“A girl always came here, everyday. She’s missing now and I need help to find her.”
“Uh, I’m not sure how much help I would be. I remember her. Everly Chamberlain. I saw her all over the news, is she still not found?” The girl was concerned as well.
“No, she isn’t. I need to know if anyone was ever watching her in the store. Can I look at some videos?”

She was hesitant at first, but with some talking with the other employees she let me back. We watched videos from a few days back, but didn’t find anything. We went through days and days.

“Wait wait wait” I said, suddenly jumping out of my seat.
“There, pause!” I said pointing at the screen. “Zoom in, please.” She zoomed in to where my finger was placed. The lady in black sat with a man across fro Everly. I took a picture. We watched that day and the lady in black stared at Everly, taking notes, and….pictures? We watched a couple other days and the lady in black appeared several other times, doing the same thing and watching Everly.
“Look, I need you to tell me if this lady comes in again! Okay?” I wrote down my name and number on a sheet of paper and gave it to the girl. “I promise I will pay you back! Thank you so much for your help, you have no idea how much you’ve helped me!”

I ran out of the store. My legs didn’t stop moving until I made it to the front door of my apartment. I burst through the door, almost collapsing on the ground, panting.
“Niall!” I screamed through the house. He ran down the stairs.
“What the fuck? What’s happening?!” He shouted back.
“Niall! I got something,” He called over Brooke and I began telling them the whole story.
“I SAW EVERLY THE OTHER DAY! We made eye contact, she needed help and all I did was buy another coffee!” I began freaking out, pacing the kitchen.
“Harry! You didn’t know. You’ve helped so much, though. We need to find this lady, Harry.”
“That’s my goal. We need to. Soon!”
