Secrets in the Moonlight

Chapter One

Acting: the art or occupation of performing.
I love to act; I'm awful good at it too. I aspired to become an award winning actress when I was younger. I went to auditions every week as a teenager.

Now, I am 22, and I wish I could tell you of all the awards I've won, or movies I've starred in. But, I cannot do that. It isn't true.

Instead, I live in an apartment in New York, working for minimum wage at a Target. I continued to look for auditions, as I was today.
It was freezing today, low thirties. I had to drive twenty minutes to almost the other side of the city.
The traffic wasn't horrible yet, it will be when I leave the audition. It's just my luck, another lousy audition, another lousy traffic day.

The building was a one story, red brick establishment. There was the sign, "AUDITIONS AHEAD!" In front of the door. It slightly looked like someone was trying to cover up the sign but failed at it miserably.
I walked down the back hallway and found the small room with a receptionist. I didn't see any other doors. However, I did see one angry girl go down the hall from which I came from.

"Hello? Hi, I'm here for the audition. The one for the guest star." I said to the blonde, big breasted receptionist.

"Oh my god. I forgot to cancel those. Okay, Hun, we really aren't auditioning today. There's some boy band coming and management is freaking out."

"Oh, I, uh, sorry? I'll leave then." I stuttered slightly in confusion.
She gave me a frantic smile and nodded. "Wait!" She called after me, "I don't know you. You don't know me. But can you help me? I need to plan all this stuff. You're the only one here."
"Yeah, sure. What do you want me to do?"
I asked her.
After she said that, there was no way I could say no. Heck, that other girl probably said no to her. "Oh my god. You're the best! Okay, can you look at hotels? Nice ones."
I nodded quickly, "Who's coming again?"

"Boy band. One Direction, they're pop singers. Don't know if you listen to them." She said eyeing my tight jeans and leather jacket.

"They aren't horrible. Not my taste, but cute guys." I laughed. Especially Mr. Styles. But shh, I'm not a 12 year old!
After looking for a few minutes, I pointed out to her a four star hotel that had a lovely balcony. "They always show them in the news waving off of these." I said to her.
She nodded quickly. I helped her with a couple of other things, including meal plans and times. She talked a lot about the boys and how she used to work for them until she got pregnant and married. Since she worked for them, that is how she got this job. It's through all the same management. Their planner got fired and since they knew the receptionist, they called her. We continued to look at some of the options.

Then she broke the silence. "I know you want to be an actress. But can I offer something crazy?" She said with a small smile.

"Um, go for it?" I said looking for my purse.

"The boys need a planner. Or at least their management is looking for one. You could help them out, great pay, you get to see beautiful cities, you're young, and plus doors would open for you knowing them personally in your acting career. I can talk to them?"

"Well, I mean that would be incredible. I'm not sure if I'm cut out for it though."

"Puh-lease. You just planned this all in minutes. How about I give them a call? Just see what's up. Give me your number and I'll call you about it when I know."

I typed my number into her phone and smiled at her. How did I get myself into this situation? I finally found my purse and I was able to leave. She thanked me multiple times and promised to give me a call. She was nice, but I was super happy to get out of there.
A celebrity planner? She's right that would open so many doors for me. Plus all the extra money! Okay, if she calls me. Then I'll say yes.
I finally got home after being stopping multiple times because of traffic. Not Much of a surprise there. Since, it was a lousy audition.
"Drew babe? I'm home!" Within seconds, my adorable boyfriends head popped out from the kitchen.

"Audition day? How did it go?" He asked pecking my cheek with a kiss.

"Crazy," I exclaimed and told him about the offer I got.

"I didn't know that you liked boy bands."

"A lot of their music is good babe. Besides, I probably won't even get a call." I grabbed a spoon and stuck it in peanut butter. I shoved it in my mouth. I was starving.

"Well, being on the road with attractive guys? That's not really cool you know? Weird?" Drew said wiping my lips from excess peanut butter.

"She never said I would be on the road for sure. Like I said I might not get the call,"
Drew nodded quickly and turned away.

"Besides babe, you're the hottest, most sexy guy I know," I said after him. He smiled and glanced at me. "I really love you." Then he pulled me in kissing me, starting off sweet then going deeper.
"I'm going to eat, then let's watch a movie." "Naked?" He wiggled his eyebrows.
I laughed in response
. -----------------
It's been a week and I haven't gotten the call, I was slightly disappointed and losing hope. Until today that is. I was at work, going through the clothes and refolding them. I was completely in my own world, bopping my head to the music.

Then my friend and co-worker, Sarah, radioed me, "Lace? Hey, uhh, I'm not sure where you are. But there's a call for you. Front desk." I grabbed the radio, my mind flicked to the receptionist. No, couldn't be, I gave her my cell phone number

. "If it's Drew, tell him I'm busy. Sorry Sar," I said. Drew sometimes called my work for pointless reasons. We aren't allowed to have cell phones, so it's the only way he can reach me.
"Uhh, Lacy? It's a woman, sounds important. Come on up here. She's on hold." I basically dropped the nicely folded clothes and ran to the front desk.

"Hello, this is Lacy Martinson." I answered the phone.

"Nancy here. Not quite sure if I ever said my name to you when we met." She sang into the phone. I instantly recognized the voice: she was the receptionist.

"Oh hi! What's up?" I said, avoiding eye contact as my co-worker tried to listen in.

"You know the job offer?"

"Yes, I do."

"If you want it..it's yours." She said.
