Nothing Without Love

What's happening out here?

Josie's POV

He can't be serious? He really thought that Adam was my boyfriend? I guess someone could mistaken us for a couple because we hug each other? I'm not in the spot light, I'd rather not be so some people are surprised to learn that Adam has a younger sister. I always went to my dad's boxing matches but that was so long ago that it isn't relevant anymore.

But here I sit, across from Niall and Louis, chatting away about God knows what as I try and relax in the sun. It's such a gorgeous day outside. Why does Louis have to make everything so awkward? I can feel his eyes on me when I'm not even looking at him. Thankfully I have sunglasses on, I can look at him if I want to but I'm trying to look away. I brought some magazines to read and I took careful consideration when I picked them out as to not pick out ones with pictures of the boys on the front. It would just make things even more weird. They're not on the covers as much as they used to be, Niall is a little more popular at the moment because everyone is trying to get a picture of their newest edition as they haven't shared her publicly.

I look over when I hear Niall and Louis arguing about something and now I'm concerned that maybe Louis has said something about us sleeping together. I don't want Niall and Erica to think anything less of me. Once you have the trust of someone, then lose it, it's so difficult to get it back and in my profession, all I can use is trust. If I would get fired then try to get a new job they'll always go back to Niall and Erica and ask why. People won't think to highly of myself when they discover that I slept with one of Niall's friends.

Niall phone starts ringing and he gets up to walk back into the house, leaving Louis and I alone, a pool between us. I pretend like I don't notice, still looking up at the sky, thankful for a warm day so late in the year.

“Niall's mum was calling him.” Louis tells me.

“Okay.” I roll my eyes behind my sunglasses, it's not my business, I don't really care whose calling him.

“Can I come sit by you?” He asks again, his voice is a little louder and it's not like I can avoid it.

“It's a free country.” And thankfully the chair to the left of me is at least four feet away. Louis doesn't waste any time as he hops up and lightly walks to the other side of the pool to join me.

“Can I ask you a question?” I sits down as the straps in the seat crack just a little bit.

“I think if I say no you'll still ask.” His laugh startles me just a little bit, it's louder then I remember it being.

“Very true. Why did you leave that night?” I groan. One minute you don't want things to get awkward, the next minute you bring up our one night stand.

“Honestly?” I ask, I don't know if he want's my honest truth of the fact that he wasn't very good. “I don't do one night stands. I didn't want it to be weird in the morning where you order up breakfast, we laugh a little bit then I leave in last nights clothes.” I shrug as if it's no big deal. It's not though, people do this all the time and it doesn't matter but I think way too much about things.

“Fair enough.” He leans back as if the conversation is over. I let me shoulders relax and wiggle my toes, stretching out my legs a little more as I continue to bask in the sun. We sit in silence for a few more minutes before he opens his mouth again. “But you had fun didn't you? I mean, I know I could have done better, be you still had a good time right?” He's rambling. I remember him rambling that night, kept going on and on about things. He was really funny though, I remember laughing so much that night.

“Yes Louis, I had fun.” I leave it at that and turn my head back to the sky, hoping I can just relax right now.

“So would you do it again?” He asks.

“Jesus Louis! Can I just have some peace and quiet? Please?” I snap, let it go Louis, let it go.

“Sorry, didn't mean to ruin your meditation.” His face mocks me as he speaks sarcastically.

“You know, I can still see you out of the corner of my eye.”

“Of course I know.” How anyone would get along with this man is beyond me, I feel like were almost too much alike. A scary thought.

“You know, you're kind of annoying.” He tells me.

“So are you.” I turn my head to him and push my sunglasses down, apparently we're having a staring contest.

“What's happening out here?” Niall appears out of nowhere and pushes Louis' feet out of the way, sitting down on the chair.

“Louis is just telling me how annoying I am. Seems like we're on the same page.” I inform him, I'm a little bitter for some reason, I mean, who talks to someone like this after hardly knowing me. I'm not much better I guess.

“Ah, sounds like Louis.” Niall smiles as they begin to exchange pleasantries back and forth, I'm only half listening. I sometimes think that if I just close my eyes and feel the sun my skin will magically remain tan for the rest of my life. But that's usually all in my head.

“Right Josie!” Niall's comment turns my attention back to their conversation.

“What?” I ask. “Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.”

“Yeah, we know, we were just seeing if you were paying attention at all.” Louis laughs.

“I'm going to head to the grocery store, I'll see you guys later.” I'm tired of conversation today, I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just tired of today.

“Ah come on Josie!” Niall keeps laughing.

“I'm good Niall, I just want to get some stuff done. I'll be back later, text me if you need anything. Good to see you Louis.” I grab my towel and slip my shoes on, Niall doesn't wait very long before he steals my chair and I'm off to my place.

It's not like it's far, it's only across the lawn and up the steps but I love this place. Minus college I've never had my own spot. Technically it isn't my own place, I live in Niall and Erica's house but it's separate from the real house, it's got it's own steps from it's own one car garage. It's small but it's just me. I drop my towel at the top of the steps and remember all my blinds are closed so I start stripping off my swimsuit, kicking it into the closet where the washer and dryer stack is.

Sometimes I just like to be naked.

I usually sleep naked. Unless I'm with someone else, then I'll at least put underwear and a tank top on. But I'd rather be naked.

I decide to write a quick list for the store, I'm usually terrible with memory, I make lists in my head and never write them down, turning into never getting anything I want and usually just snacks. I'm a terrible snacker. I pop some green grapes in my mouth as I pull a pen out and make my rounds through the cabinets.

“Oh shit.” I turn to see Louis at the top of the steps. Eyes all over me.

“What the fuck Louis?” I ask, I would reach for a towel, but of course they're all in the dryer.

“I'm sorry, shit, I'm sorry.” He turns around, fingers running through his hair.

“What are you doing here?” Why he's up here is beyond me.

“I'm sorry, I just thought I'd come and talk to you a little more.”

“So you couldn't knock?” I ask with force, still standing completely naked in the kitchen, him still turned around. What the hell was he thinking? Coming into my place without invitation. Who does that?

“I didn't think about it. Why are you naked?”

“I took of my swimsuit. This is my place, the windows are covered, no one comes in without knocking or texting me to ask if they can come over.” I inform him.

“Shit would you please put some clothes on?” He pleads.

“Well this is my place.” I tell him. “You're the one that came in unannounced.” I tell him, as if he doesn't know.

“Well you're kind of giving me a boner here.” He informs me, shoving his hands in his pockets and rocking back and forth on his heals. His back is still facing me.

“Well, the bathroom is right there, don't use my nice towels.” I decide to walk to the bedroom and get dressed. I mean, I can feel it getting a little cold in here.

“Jesus Josie, you really had to go that far?” He asks.

“You brought up the boner Louis, I'd say you went to far!” I call out over my shoulder, opening drawers to search for underwear and shorts.

“Can I turn around yet?” I close my eyes and pinch the bridge of my nose. He's still here.

“Yes Louis.” I sing out.

“You're still not fully clothed!” He calls out, suddenly at the door frame.

“I have underwear on, bra, I'm covered, probably more then my swimsuit did. I wouldn't go out like this but I'm covered.” I find this situation comical. Louis has seen me naked now twice this year.

“Can I go grocery shopping with you?”
