Chapter 4

I tapped my pencil rhythmically against the notebook. If its possible, I felt his glare without him even looking at me. It was like his eyes were imprinted on me and watching my every move. I didn't like it. It made me uneasy and a little nauseated. Never before in my life was I watched this heavily in this way.
"Hey, you okay? You look like you're aggravated by something?" Violet asked concerned. Something? More like someone.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I lied. I would be if this-this dickwad would stop staring at me.
'Those are some strong words for someone you love.'
Like seriously? What is happening today? I'm getting text messages in my head, a new guy at school is aura-less, and his mind is locked down like a Catholic nun's virginity. I saw him silently laughing in the corner of my eye. What is so funny to him? He ran his hands over his face.

1889 - PARIS, FRANCE
I stayed behind. Every couple had left and went home to live their mundane lives. Eventually dying and not fulfilling all things they wished on before they died. Or just naturally just giving up.
I was patient. When you've chased the same girl for over 3 decades, you would have been too. I waited for three whole hours for the tower to close just to see her. She came in from the kitchen, about to leave with her long beige trench coat on and purse on her shoulder. Then she stopped and looked at me.
"Um, monsieur, the tower is closed," She said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear.
"I know," I said, my back turned away from her and towards the street. The nightlife was quiet now and the wind was picking up.
"Uh, then what are you doing?" I chuckled deeply and lowly. I turned around to face her.
"Just enjoying the view," I said taking in her petite body. I licked my lips and she blushed. "Are you on your way home?" I already knew the answer was yes.
"Yes," she answered nicely, gracefully, and heavenly.
"Then let me walk you," I said making my way over to her.
"No, I'm fine. I wouldn't want to disturb you," She said looking down at her feet.
"I insist," I said finally face to face with her. I guided us to the elevator and down we went. It was silent for a while. You could hear the birds soar elegantly and their chirps pierced the night. The silent 'hooting' of a nearby owl then she spoke.
"I don't mean to pry but how come you're alone tonight?" She asked peering up at me.
"The same reason everyone's alone," I stated simply.
"And what might that reason be?" She questioned. A smile played on her lips delightfully.
"Because love is a vicious cycle," her blue eyes glimmered with curiosity.
"Well, I'm sure the girl you love is still in love with you.," she said it with such hope and determination.
"No, the girl that's still in love with me is reckless, and immature," I was thinking of Carmen. I just ended my relationship with her. I love her as a friend and nothing more nor less but the two of us will never happen again.
