Fixed Love

“Mom, this is Tessa English. Tess this is my mum Lizbeth.” He introduced.

“Mom, I told you we were coming.” Luke stated, obviously annoyed.

“I know!” She screamed, “I’m ready, Jesus!” She shouted.

She put cheese crisps on a plate and set them on the table.

“This looks really good, thank you.” I smiled, and started to eat.

“So what’s your name?” His mom asked.

“I’m Tessa.” I grinned.

“Mom, I just said that.” Luke noted.

“Well I didn’t know.” She whined.

“How long have you two been hooking up?” She asked and I nearly choked.

“Mom.” Luke growled.

“Well isn’t that what she is? You’ve never had a real girlfriend in your life.” Liz mentioned.

“Well she is my girlfriend. We’ve been dating for 6 months.” Luke lied.

Liz scoffed and looked at me.

“Did you know he’s cheating on you?” she asked seriously.

“Mother!” Luke shouted.

“What? You said you’ve been dating six months? You’ve brought home a different girl every
night this week, I’m just stating the obvious.” Liz waved her hands.

“Where’s Kenzie?” He asked, trying to stay calm.

“I have no clue.” Liz mumbled.

“Where did she go?” Luke asked.

“I don’t know. Something about a boy names Mitch…I cant remember.” She stated.

“Mitch? Really? Don’t you remember what Dad said, she’s not allowed to talk to Mitch? He’s 19 and she’s only 15.” Luke growled.

Liz shrugged.

“Come on Tessa, we have to go find Makenzie.” Luke rolled his eyes, and pulled me by my hand.

“It was nice meeting you.” I smiled at his mom before yanking my hand away from Luke and going in his car.

We drove to Mitch’s apartment and his roommate said he was at a party, and gave us the address.

When we got there, a little girl was snogging face with someone I guessed was Mitch.

“Kenzie!” Luke shouted, and she stopped kissing him, and ran to the car, getting in the backseat.

“Who is this?” She asked looking at me, breathless.

“This is my girlfriend Tessa.” He stated, trying to keep his eyes on the road.

“Girlfriend? I didn’t think you knew what that word meant.” She sneered.

“Very funny Kenzie,” he stated turning into the driveway.

“Mom’s high, don’t cause a fight.” Luke yelled before Kenzie ran inside.

“Sorry about that. My family’s fucked up. Here, do you like Mexican?”

We sat down at the table waiting to order. Luke is taking me to a restaurant since all I got
was a few bites out of a cheese crisp before we had to find his sister.

“Questions?” Luke asked.

“What?” I didn’t understand.

“I can see it in your face. You want to ask me something. Well go ahead. Were gonna spend the rest of our lives together anyways.” He commented looking at a menu.

“Where’s your Dad?” I asked.

“Probably with Rosie, his girlfriend.” He stated.

“Why don’t they just get a divorce if he’s cheating on her?”

“He’s not cheating, they have an open relationship. And they think it will be cheaper to stay together. Plus I think my Dad still loves my mom, no matter how fucked up she gets.” Luke shrugged.

“What’s wrong with her?”

“She’s addicted to heroin.” He said calmly.

“Don’t you care?” I asked.

“Of course I do. She’s my mom.”

“Then why don’t you help her? Get her into rehab, or do something about it, instead of watching her kill herself?” I sneered.

“You wouldn’t understand.” He shook his head.

“No I do. I do understand exactly what’s happening.” I commented.

“You really don’t Tess. You have no idea what Im going through.” He stated looking at the menu.

“I had a brother…Well…I used to have 4 brothers…now I have 3. My brother Trevor was our oldest brother, but he was addicted to methamphetamines. He overdosed and died on my 18th birthday.” I said quietly.

“Sorry.” He muttered.

We got done eating, and he drove me home.

“So tommorow, you could meet my family.” I stated.

“Yeah? What time?” He asked.

“Well, my grandma’s having her 85th birthday party at 1, so come over at 11, because I still need to bake cupcakes.” I stated.

“I will be there.” He smiled, and I went inside.
