“Luke!”

The tall boy sat up and walked over to me.

He cleared his throat and sat down.

“….Hey.” he finally muttered.

“Hello.”

“So…I get it. You don’t wanna be here. Didn’t ever think you’d get kidnapped huh?” He jokes, but it’s not funny.

His eyes turn soft and he looks at me.

“I’m not a volunteer…” his voice gets lower.

“I know what you’re going through. We could? I donno, do it together. I donno if you want kids or something…but I do. And we don’t have to….you know. But I mean if you wanted kids…we could insinuate. And obviously we could see other people and ….yeah. I mean I don’t know about you but I don’t wanna get stuck marrying some random 40 year old.” He shrugged.

“I won’t stand up for anyone else so…if you want to marry me you can…but otherwise ill just marry whoever I get stuck with…” He finished and stood up, sitting back down in the front with the other guys while someone else got questioned.

I sat in the corner with a few other crying girls.

Once everyone was questioned, Simo made all the girls stand up in a line at the front.

“Who went first?” He ordered and I raised my hand.

“Pick someone.”

“R-right now?” I asked.

Simo nodded.

Ah shit.

Not Richard.

Definitely not Marcus.

Could I marry a gay guy? Maybe I could pick Austin…

Probably not…he is gay.

“Hurry up!” Nic yelled.

“Luke.” I blurted, not even realizing it until he looked at me.

Am I really gonna marry this random guy?

Everyone picked, and I looked around.

Richard got stuck with a woman half his age.

I think her name was Mara?

I’m really sorry Mara….

“Alright! Lemme explain this.” Nic yelled.

“SIT!”

We all rushed to sit down by our fiancé’s, and Luke scooted closer to me, to give room for the people beside us.

“You don’t have to marry them today…..You need to get engaged within 6 months, and married within a year. If you are not married in 400 days, we will hunt you down. There is no escaping this.

“Is everybody clear?!” he shouted and we all nodded, too scared to speak.

“Go.” He muttered and Luke helped me up.

We walked out and I winced at the sun outside.

Luke laughed and checked his phone.

“So…” he chuckled.

“So?” I repeated.

“How should we do this?” he questioned.

“Um…well if I know anything about my family, they would not approve of me getting married after just a year so… we’ve been dating for 6 months? But didn’t wanna tell anyone until now?” I suggested.

“Yeah sure. I guess we have to meet each other’s families then. If we’re getting married…” he muttered.

“Yeah.”

Oh my God could this get any more awkward?

“So…can I have your number?” He asked.

“uh yeah. 623-233-144.” I stated and he typed it in his phone.

“Alrighty. How about tommorow? You could come over and meet my mum at 5.” He asked.

“Uh yeah, just text me.” I nodded.

“Okay. I will see you later Theresa.” He smiled and called a cab.

I called my roommate and he came right away.

“What the hell is this? What are you doing here?” Ashton pestered as he pulled up.

“Nothing, just meeting a friend.” I lied.

I don’t know if I should tell him.

“Luke’s your friend?” He asked.

“You know who he is?”

“Yes Tessa. Remember? The restaurant?” He giggled.

“When you spazzed and spilt our order?”

“Yea yea, shut up.” I groaned and got in the car.

“Why did you have to meet him here?” Ashton scrunched his nose.

“I need to tell you something.” I stated as he started to drive.

“You’re pregnant?” Ashton widened his eyes and I laughed and swatted his shoulder.

“No! I wanna tell you why I’m here. With Luke.” I stated.
