Mosaic Heart

Zayn Malik has always struggled to live up to his fathers expectations; To go to a good college and become a successful psychologist. And for Zayn to stop 'writing in that stupid diary' of his. But that's all Zayn is good at.

Writing is like an escape for Zayn. A way to escape his father's disappointment, a way to block out having to see his mother's sorrow filled eyes. It's only when the secrets spill from his burdened mind onto the worn out pages of his journal that he feels like himself again.

When his face is pressed between the crumpled pages -his nose catching the faintest smell of jasmine tea every time- he can feel her presence. Can hear her vibrant laugh echo in his head. Can feel the slightest pull at the sides of his lips. Can just... Feel.

He made the mistake of telling his dad this one night.

Zayn hasn't opened his journal in 3 years.

During his last year of high school -in the midst of applying for colleges and his parent's divorce- Zayn can feel himself slipping. He feels as though he has no purpose, no reason to continue living. No hobbies to keep him occupied, no talents that could take him far, no constants in his life to keep him grounded when he feels like he's drifting away.

His feet stay planted on the ground but his light is dim. He breathes without feeling the crisp air sting his throat, he sees things without truly noticing them, he goes through the motions of living with out feeling alive. Without feeling much of anything, really.

That is until a girl with such a unique way of interpreting everything, catches Zayn's attention.
