Moving To England

Chapter Twenty-One

*Destiny’s POV*
*Afterschool*

“Ugh! Thank, God that’s over!” Melody whined, appearing by my side, as I was exited the school.

“I know right.” I sighed, pushing back the loose strands of my hair.

“I heard about you and Harry.” Melody sighed, “Stay away from him, did I not tell you?”

“Yeah … but in my defence, he came to me.” I pointed out, smiling.

“Whatever.” Melody laughed.

“Oh, yeah. Niall and Zayn told us to go over to Niall’s place tomorrow, right after school so we can work on that chemistry project.” I informed her.

“Ugh, yeah fine.” Melody groaned, rolling her eyes.

“Hey, Mel! Come on!” a girl in a red jeep drove up. She had short blond hair, she wasn’t super gorgeous, but she wasn’t ugly either.

“Sorry, Destiny. That’s my ride. It was great hanging out with you today. You have my number so text me if you need anything. Bye!”

“Bye.” I smiled as she gave me a hug before she got into the car.

“And stay away from Curly!” She called out. I laughed at her choice of words, as she repeated what I had called him earlier.

“Hey, Destiny,” Mabel called to me.

“Hey.” I waved to her. “Where are the other girls?”

“Inside. You’re going to have to walk alone today, sorry. We have detention for something stupid we did last year.” Mable says, rolling her eyes.

“Wow, okay then.” I sighed. “Bye.”

“Bye.” Mabel smiled, hugging me before re-entering the school.

I sighed, unlocking my bike, I began to slowly ride it down the street. Once I had reached the end of the road. I realised I had no clue where I was going.

‘Left or right?’ I thought to myself, looking both directions, repeatedly. Settling in the right corner, I rode my bike down the street, making a few more unknown turns, until my surrounding were completely oblivious to myself.

“Great! I’m lost, now.” I thought out loud. Deciding to retrace my steps, I rode my bike back the same way I had come, until I finally found my house.

Looking to the house on the other side of the street, I saw Harry getting out of his car, with a red haired girl. Before they had gone into his house, he slammed her up the against the wall, and his hands immediately begun to roam her body.

“Gross,” I say under my breath, feeling disturbed by the things the two of them were doing. Quickly driving my bike into the garage, I pray Harry wouldn’t notice me. I swiftly made it to the front door and inside the house.

“Hey, mum! I’m home!” I called out.

No reply.

“Mum? Dad?” I called out, throwing my bag onto the couch. I walked into the kitchen to grab an apple, where I found a note.

It read:
Hello, darling. Your father and I will be late, because of work, tonight. Sorry honey. We will be back around 7 pm to 8-ish. I hope you had a great first day of school! Call your father once you have read this just so we can make sure your homes safe and sound. ~ Love Mom

“Great.” I groaned, throwing the note into the can, I called Dad.

“Hey, Destiny,” Dad says, through the phone.

“Yeah. Hey, Daddy. I am home. Mom wrote a note saying to call you after I finished reading it. Well … I finished reading it, and now I am calling you.” I say.

“Oh yeah. Did you have a good first day of school?” Dad asked me.

“Yeah, it was alright.” I shrugged.

“Good. I am swamped. Who knew my first day of doctoring job would be so hectic. I have to go, Dear. Grab something to eat, finish your homework and chill. I’ll be home for an hour or two, maybe three or four, but I’ll be home. Bye, Dear.” Dad quickly says.

“Okay, love you. Bye, Dad!” I replied, and with that dad hung up.

I sighed, “What to do? What to do?” I thought out loud.

I looked over at the television, “Too mainstream.” Then I began walking upstairs, halfway stopping, “Now, there is nothing better to do. Better stick with the mainstream.” I shrugged, plopping down on the couch, I began flipping through the channels.

Half an hour later, I started on my homework and was done by the time my parents came home, together, at 8 pm.

At about 9 o’clock, we all sat down to have dinner.

“Oh, David! Guess what?” Mum exclaimed as she ate her meal.

“What?” Dad asked.

“Desmond’s going to come back to town,” Mum informed him.

“Oh my gosh! Really! Oh, I haven’t seen my best friend in so long! OH, MY GOODNESS! When is he coming? There is so much to prepare!” Dad exclaimed, his eyes lighting up at the name.

“Not so ideal for Annie, though. They are divorced, remember?” Mum said.

“Who cares about her? He is coming for me! He sensed my presence!” Dad cried in joy, barely able to contain himself.

“I think Dad’s gone crazy …” I whisper to my mum.

“Of course he did. That’s his boyfriend we are talking about.” Mum says, rolling her eyes, making me giggle. “He’ll be here tomorrow evening, to see Annie.” Mum then adds.

“What?! Why her?!” Dad angrily exclaimed.

“Because you know, he is sort of in love with her,” Mum says.

“Urgh.” Dad groaned, settling back down in his seat.

“And … Annie does not want to see him alone. So they are coming over here.” Mum adds.

“Yes! Oh my gosh! Such little time! We must prepare!” Dad exclaimed, his anger immediately fading.

“Sit down and eat first!” Mum had demanded before my Dad ran off. Immediately he sat back down and gobbled his food.

“The whole family?!” I asked.

“Yeah, Harry, his Mum and Dad.” Mom nodded, “Why?”

“No reason.” I quietly say, looking down at my food.

‘Shoot.’ I thought. I honestly, wasn’t too keen on seeing his face, again – especially in my own home.

“Is everything alright?” Mum asked me, Dad was too busy working on his food to hear me.

“Yeah, everything’s fine.” I smiled at her.

“He didn’t cause any trouble, did he?” Mum asked.

“No, Momma.” I laughed, trying to lighten things up.

“Okay, then.” She nodded, with a smile. Dad nodded.

“Do I have to be there?’ I asked, remembering about the group project.

“Of course,” Mum said. “Why?”

“I have a group project tomorrow. Me and this other girl, name Melody, have to go to Niall’s house. Me, Melody, Zayn and Niall are doing a chemistry project together, and we have to work on it outside of school.” I explained.

“Alright, but make sure you are home by 6 pm,” Mum informed me.

*After dinner*

“Dad, what are you doing?” I questioned him, as I looked over his shoulder. He seemed to be working on a banner, in the middle of the living room.

“I’m preparing for Desmond’s arrival.” Dad quickly spat out.

“You were do love him, don’t you.” I laughed.

“We are soulmates, Destiny.” Dad declared.

“What am I, then?” Mum exclaimed, from the couch.

“Yeah, and then there is her – Oh my gosh! Annie! She must be ready as well! She must look good for Desmond!” Dad exclaimed.

“My life story – always being in second place, after his best friend.” Mum sighs.

“Destiny. Come! We must inform her.” Dad demanded.

“You can't go alone?” I questioned him.

“Of course not. Does it look like I am a fashion human?” Dad asked me, giving me a dirty look.

“Uhm, I’m pretty sure, she knows how to dress, herself …” I pointed out.

“Not good enough. Come!” Dad declared.

“Ish.” I sighed, out loud, as I reluctantly followed Dad out of the house, and across the road.

Dad pounded on the door, repeatedly until Harry’s mum threw up the door in fear.

“David! You gave me a fright! What’s wrong?!” Ms Cox cried, angrily glaring at Dad.

“Have you prepared?” Dad questioned her, his arms crossed over his chest.

“Prepared for what?” She questioned him.

“Desmond, obviously.”

“You’re kidding me.”

“Well, did you?”

“Of course not, because there is nothing to prepare. Goodness.”

“Are you telling me you’ve done nothing for his arrival?”

“Yes, I am telling you that. Why don’t you go can prepare for your boyfriend? Goodness, you are ridiculous.” Ms Cox sighed, rolling her eyes.

“You will upset him! He needs the best homecoming!” Dad declared, angrily.

“No, he doesn’t. He is a jerk. I don’t even know why I am meeting up with him.”

“Take it back! Take that back right now!”

“No. What are you going to do about it?”

“Ouf! You! Desmond doesn’t love you, any more so -blah!” Dad cried, sticking out his tongue at her.

“Yeah, but he loves you, doesn’t he? Your boyfriend won’t be too happy to see you after you left him.” Ms Cox teased Dad.

“Oh no … I forgot … This must be the best reunion ever!” Dad declared, running back to the house.

“Uhm … I should probably apologise. Uhm … Sorry.” I stuttered, unsure of what just happened right now.

“It’s alright. Your father and Desmond were the best of friends, inseparable. Some thought they might be gay. Your grandfather was sometimes worried that your dad might not be straight, so he took extra precaution to keep your mother around him.” Ms Cox explained, laughing.

“Wow, uh, okay. I should probably get going. Goodbye Ms Cox. See you tomorrow!” I say, before running back home.

“Bye, Destiny!” Ms Cox called back to me.

After Dad had finished working on the banner and put it away safely in his room, he took a shower and came back downstairs, to the living room, to see me reading The Time Traveler’s Wife.

“Hey, why not a scary movie?” Dad suggested, now much calmer than he was earlier.

“Yes!” I cheered. I have not watched one is such a long time.

“On a school night!” Mum exclaimed as she read her novel.

“Please, please, please.” Dad and I pleaded.

“What if you get nightmares?” Mum told me.

“Nightmares, are so last year, Mum. I am a big girl, now. Trust me, I don’t get nightmares.” I smirked.

“Okay. Fine.” Mum laughed. “Don’t come crying to me when you do get a nightmare, I’m going to bed. Don’t stay up too late.”

“Yes!” Dad and I cheered racing to the couch.

“Actually, maybe I’ll stay and watch too,” Mum says, plopping onto the couch next to Dad.

“What are we watching?” I asked.

“The Conjuring,” Dad says, in a scary voice.

We watched the movie and screamed so many times during it. I’m pretty sure if we had watched ourselves as we cried in fear, we would be laughing our heads off.

Half way through the movie, Mum shut it off.

“Too Scary!” She demanded.

“Mum!” I exclaimed as Dad shouted, “Faith!”

“No more. Destiny, you have school tomorrow, up to bed.” Mum demanded.

“It was almost done!” I fibbed.

“Now!” mum ordered me. I sighed and started to make my way upstairs.

“It’s only because you are scared,” Dad said rolling his eyes as well.

“We have work tomorrow as well, let’s go!” Mum says, changing the subject.

“She was scared,” I smirked, whispering to Dad, as he followed me upstairs.

“Yup.” Dad laughed in a hushed voice so mum couldn’t hear.

“I heard that.” Mom sighed.

“Run!” Dad exclaimed. Dad quickly raced to his room, while I hurriedly made my way into mine. Slipping into my PJs, I jumped onto my bed.

“BING!”

It was my phone, I grabbed it off my dresser and stared at the screen – scrolling through all the unread messages.

Ten unread messages – it read.

“Wow.” I thought out loud. Unlocking my phone, I read through all my messages and replied to each of them before falling asleep.

*Harry’s POV*
*After school the same day*

After having sex with a redhead from my school – whose name I didn’t exactly know – Niall, and I drove over to Liam’s house to meet with the rest of the boys.

“Hey, Mates!” Liam exclaimed, gesturing us to come into the house, as Niall and I appeared at the doorway.

Louis came out of the bathroom, followed by Jessica. Casey was kissing Niall aggressively on the couch, while Zayn and Liam waited for Haylee and Tia to come downstairs.

Then, Amanda appeared.

“Hey, Babe.” She smirked, planting a sloppy kiss on me. I rolled my eyes when she looked away, as I pushed back my hair. We all ended up sitting in Liam’s room talking about the party on Friday.

“Who you going with, Harry?” Liam asked.

“Me, of course,” Amanda smirked, hugging my arm.

‘Ugh, she is so clingy and annoying.’ I thought, with a sigh.

“No. I am taking Destiny.” I say.

“You are?!” Louis asked, looking surprised.

“She rejected you, though.” Zayn pointed out. Suddenly, I felt a slight pain in my heart, as he said those words. Quickly, I brushed it off as nothing.

“Yeah, well, my Mum is making me,” I say, with a shrug.

“She is so ugly.” Nicole groans. Casey let out a shrill laugh.

‘Wow, that was annoying.’ I thought.

“Honestly, I believe she is quite fit,” Niall says. Immediately, Casey stopped smiling.

“She doesn’t even wear makeup, properly.” Casey intruded.

“Yeah, and her hair is so dull and never styled,” Haylee adds, disgusted.

“Her clothes are so last year.” Tia laughs, adding on to her friends’ rude remarks.

“Don’t you think she is fit, Harry?” Liam came in.

“Uh, yeah. I don’t know. Destiny is pretty and all, even without that overload on makeup or styling her hair too much. Her outfits are actually pretty okay.” I say, “But, I don’t know, her clothes don’t show much. Maybe, if she gave me more to look at, I’d be interested.”

“She probably has nothing to show anyway.” Amanda huffs.

“Nah … I am sure she does.” Niall intrudes.

“You weren’t thinking of all of this before she rejected you.” Liam teased.

“Shut up.” I gritted my teeth.

“Aw. Is Harry’s ego hurt?” Louis egged on.

“Shut up, damn it!” I exclaimed.

Truth is. I was hurt. I have known her for over two months, and I guess I have grown a liking for her. Although, I am desperately trying not admit it, even to myself.

I have never been rejected before, especially not in public. I lost respect from people when Destiny turned me down. But, as I think about it more and more, I don’t even feel like it’s not the reputation loss that kills me …

*Destiny’s POV*

I was woken by laughter - a baby’s laughter.

“We don’t have a baby in our house.” I thought out loud, confused. “Where is it coming from?”

I went into my parent’s room, to ask them. When I entered the room I found an empty bed, it was untouched, and the lights were off. The room looked as if no one had even had came in.

“Strange,” I muttered. The baby’s laughter continued. I decided to follow the laughter, unknowingly.

The laughter leads me to a door. A door I have not noticed before in the house. It was a jet black colour, with strange white engravings on it. Opening the door, I realised it leads to the basement.

“I never knew we had a basement,” I say, scratching my head in confusion. My hair was let out, and spread all over my shoulders, pulling them together, I realised it on my back, as I descended into the dark basement. As I advance further and further into the unknown, the baby’s laughter grew louder and louder.

The stairs seemed to be continuing on forever. Eventually, I reached the bottom, where the laughter was booming with noise. I struggled to flip on the lights, as the dark walls seemed to be closing in on me.

I see something run across the dark room, making loud footsteps.

“Who is here?” I called out, loudly fearfully. My voice stuttering.

Immediately, the baby’s laughter turns into an ear-piercing scream. The cry seemed to be thundering from every direction. I shielded my throbbing ears from the piercing cries.

At that moment several picture frames along the wall fall and shatter on the floor with an ear-splitting smash. I screamed in fear and surprise.

Crying in the corner, of the room, holding myself in fear, I begin to hear slams and thunderous hands banging on the basement door, at the top of the stairwell.

Then a mighty howl, echo through the eerily room, “I want your family dead!”

Instantly, afterwards, everything goes quite – completely silent. I get up, trying to leave the horrendous room, but the silence becomes deafening. I seemed to swallow in utter quietness and dark.

Just then, someone begins to slowly clap, somewhere in the room – a particular location I couldn’t recognise. The lights flickered each time the person – a thing – clapped. I began to feel frightened. The applause suddenly becomes deafening.

A pair of hands trapped me into a cold, metal chair, spontaneously. Shocked and scared, I began screaming for help. Screaming louder and louder, until no sound came out of me anymore.

Wails, shrieks, blood-curdling laughter and thunderous claps filled the room. The roaring noises seemed to have been thrown directly at me from every corner. The light flickers rapidly.

The spine-chilling doll from the movie, The Conjuring, came flying toward me with a knife. But instead of the toy’s face, it was a boy’s. A young boy’s facial feature. One my age. One who I had once known.

Victor.

I shot up in my bed, letting out an ear-piercing scream, my eyes filled with terror. Cold sweat dripped from my body, as I trembled in fear. I felt my heart beating rapidly.

Suddenly, tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down my face. I feel the muscles of my chin tremble like a small child. Long forgotten pain and fear came back to me in waves, minutes of sobbing broken apart by short pauses for recovering breaths.

“Destiny!” I hear Mum cry out, “Baby, what’s wrong!”

Mum reached over and flipped on the lights. Reaching for a hug, she held my tight, trying to whisper reassuring words to calm me down.

“What happened?!” Dad exclaimed, rushing into my room with a bat.

“It's fine, David. Only a nightmare.” Mum assured him, “Too big for nightmares, huh?” mum rolled her eyes, as I sobbed into her arms.

“Destiny, you left the window open. All the neighbours probably heard you.” Dad sighed, running his hand through his hair, as he went to close it. To add on to the commotion, the house phone started to go off. Dad went to answer it.

“Yes? Hello? … Oh, Annie. … Yeah, that was Destiny. … No, she will be okay … the window was left open … she had a nightmare … yes … oh … sorry to wake you … okay, tell Harry he doesn’t need to come over …. Ok … Goodnight.”

Dad walked back into my room with a sly smirk on his face.

“Who’s that?” Mum asked, still holding me. I wouldn’t dare let her go, right now, but I ran out of tears, as I calmed down to listen to what my father had to say.

“Oh, Destiny’s screams woke up Annie’s family. Harry, somehow, knew it was Destiny, and apparently, he was ready to come over and make sure she was safe. He thought someone was attacking her. Annie decided to call and make sure everything was okay before he intruded.” Dad explained.

“Oh.” Mum nodded, smiling. Dad had also got me a cup of cold water.

As I drank it, Mum said, “This will teach you not to watch any more scary movies at night.” I nodded, pouted.

“Goodnight, Honey.” Mom smiled, kissing my forehead, as she wiped away the last of my tears. My parents retreated back into their room, leaving the lights on.

As I slept alone, in my bed, clutching on my teddy bear, I thought about how I dearly wanted some to sleep next to be, especially during times like this. Although, it never felt right when my parents slept next to me as if there was someone else that should be here. I always wondered who that person would be.
