The Lady in Red

In a pipe we fly to the Motherland

Harry

The potent stench of weed lingering freely about the frat house soothed my senses as I closed the door to my dorm, buttoned up my pants, and reminisced the easiest shag I've ever had. I hardly needed to make an effort to get her back up to my room. While strolling the halls, I found a flask of party juice waiting for me against the wall on a wooden table and snatched it before anyone could even notice.

I needed one of these.

I staggered throughout the foyer with an empty cup in my hand longing to be filled by more Purple Jesus. My best mate was nowhere to be found though this was his party, and I was burning out my patience. Think, Styles. Where would you keep all of your alcohol if you were Hugo Ryker?

The Basement.

I shook my head while opening the door to the staircase which led to the attic and wondered why I didn't think of that earlier. A groan escaped my lips as I squeezed passed a couple snogging in the stairwell to head down the rusty, old stairs. I took a quick cursory over the dimly lit space when I reached the bottom and saw the silhouette of a lady clothed in red with auburn hair cascading down her left shoulder. I don't think I've ever seen this one before. I paused on the last step to watch her attentively. Pursed red lips curled around the drinking hole of the Heineken wrapped between her fingertips and parted slightly to allow the liquid access. Her elbows were perched atop the window sill which supported the weight of her slender frame as she stared outside into the endless night sky.

“Whoever you are, you shouldn't be down here,” I spoke up, warning the girl as I walked toward the cooler, “This place is off limits.”

The woman twisted her neck around as she took one last swig of her beer before setting the glass bottle down. She pulled her bottom lip in between her teeth to savor the fleeting taste and flickered her green eyes over to mine. They were a lighter shade than my own but nonetheless mesmeric.

“Says who?” she teased while fully turning to face me.

“Oh, why the big bad wolf, little red…” I grinned as I opened the mini-refrigerator, grabbing the bottle of vodka and grape juice.

“And what would a guy like you know about fairy tales like that?” Her eyebrows rose in amusement as an eccentric smirk carved its way into her face.

The smile highlighted her rosy cheekbones. A creamy porcelain dream, her face resembled the powdered sugar I liked to stir inside my tea. Red was her colour. Everything about her screamed it. The pigment enabled me to make out the smallest details that outlined her face such as the lines around her mouth and the circles embedded underneath her grassy eyes. Her face, among others, was the only one that didn't blur in my eyes tonight; she came out crystal clear.

“All fairy tales are the same, both dark and twisted. This world is filled with corruption, love. It's about time you realize that,” I said while placing the casters on top of a stool.

“Believe me, I've known that for sometime now,” She muttered and released a soft sigh before leaving her post to walk toward the stairs.

Now she chooses to leave.

“What's your name, little red?” I built up the courage to ask her when she finally reached the top.

I'll never forget the look she gave me when her green eyes peered back down into mine. It was teasing yet endearing. I somehow knew she wouldn't tell me her name tonight. The secret was far too precious for her to reveal on the first meeting. Even with the knowledge of this inherent information, however, a part of me hoped she did anyway.

“Names are for those who are bounded, curly. I'm a free spirit.”

Notes

Hey guys. I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I worked really hard on it (: I saw that this story was rated a 9.3, but I don't know why (it would be awesome if the person(s) who rated it below a 10 could clarify for me). 4 more votes for the next update? <3

The line italicized at the top was taken from "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran in case you were wondering.

Ooh this is great. Even though I couldn't finish this with you, you took a so much bigger approach to this than I ever could and I love this. Loved all of the updates :) x

@yellowdiamonds
That's wonderful. Picture Perfect was so well written and planned. I adored every chapter you posted with that - alas I didn't comment because I didn't have an account back then but it was so wonderful I kept coming back whenever my friend said you had updated to read it x

@fifirose
It means a lot to hear you say that. I try my best to make my characters relatable to my readers. I'm actually super excited for this story to take off. I've done a lot more planning for Ink in comparison to Picture Perfect, so updates should be faster now.

even though it's been forever i'm so glad you updated! i absolutely adore violet and they way you've created and presented her. i feel like i can connect with her on so many levels as a reader; it's astonishing.

Big thanks to everyone reading this. I'm cooking up an update for you all. I still have lots of plans for this story so stay tuned (:
