Christmas Eve
Jackie's Pov:
"Jackie, wanna take a walk before we go to bed?" Harry asked me from the door way. I smiled brightly at the boy who had so quickly became the light of my life.
"Sure Haz." I quickly put on my black pea coat, red infinity scarf, and white beanie and took his arm in mine. As we distanced ourselves from campus and neared the closed shops, our mouths were sealed his with anticipation of what was about to happen and mine with wonder and confusion. Snow was falling lightly, and as we got to the first store, Harry grabbed my hands and looked deep into my eyes.
"Jacqueline Danielle Taylor, I love you. We haven't known each other for long, but you're the one. You know me, and I you. I can see our house, and our dog, and our children playing on the swing set, and then I see you. I want to make memories with you, and spend every day just wondering what we'll talk about when we get home from work. I want to have an hour long debate with the florist on our anniversary on which flowers I should get you. What I'm trying to say," Harry lowers down onto one knee, and pulls a black box from inside his jacket. "Is will you marry me?"
With tears rushing down my face and my hands covering my mouth I stand there frozen trying to take it all in. I remove them slowly. "I- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." I stop mid sentence when a blood curling scream interrupts me. I jerk at the sound. For a second both Harry and i stare at each other in shock and horror. Harry's widen as if he knows what i'm about to do.
"Jackie, don't you dare." He started, but I was already on my way. I was running to the sound of a helpless child's cries. When I came upon a little emaciated body cowering in the corner of an alley and a big man yelling and beating the young girl, I couldn't control my self. I was planning on attacking him but I knew his next punch was going to hit her regardless of my attacks on him or not. I did what any mother would do to protect her child, I threw myself in front of her and braced for impact.
It stung and burned at the same time, I could see another punch coming, but all of a sudden the man was gone. Harry had hauled him off and had started beating him senselessly. I turned around and found the girl still cowering.
"Don't worry, he's gone, my boyfriend is taking care of him." I told the girl, and stroked her hair trying to soothe her. She flinched upon my touch and looked wildly around.
"What? Whose there?!"
"I'm...right here, my name is Jackie. I'm here to help." I cocked my head to the side and leaned closer, taking the little girl's face in my hands and examined her eyes. I gasped, for the results were unseeing pale blue eyes. She was blind. "It's going to be okay, I'm going to take care of you. What's your name sweetheart and how old are you?"
"My name is Clare and I'm five." She whimpered. I stood up and brought her with me, cradled in my arms.
"I'm here now Clare, I'll take care of you."
