A New Start
YouTube Covers and Coffee Shop Performances
"Hey guys!" I said into the camera for the 10th time. I was recording cover songs for my YouTube channel. I'm not sure exactly why I wanted to start one of these but something led me to make one. Surprisingly it was going well, I have 10 videos up and about 50 subscribers. I was currently recording my cover of One Direction's song "They Don't Know About Us". I 've been a fan of One Direction since they were fresh off of "The X Factor". When Take Me Home was released here in the US, I went out and bought it right away. In simple words, I fell head over heels for the album. The songs on this album are some of my favorites, so I had to do some covers off of the album. After and hour of recording and making sure everything sounded okay on the video, I posted it and waited to hopefully get good feedback.
I grabbed my guitar and put it back in its case. I learned to play guitar when I was 12, I am 16 now and I'm proud to say that I am self taught. I checked my watch and gathered my things, it was time to head over to the small café where I played every Wednesday. On the walk to the café I thought about what songs I should perform. I had about a half hour of performing time so I thought I would perform Stop and Stare and All Fall Down by OneRepublic. I also decided that I would play This, The City, and Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran.
I arrived to the café and ordered a hot lemon tea while I waited for the performer before me to finish performing. After finishing my tea I walked into the bathroom and warmed up my vocal chords. It must seem weird to warm up in a bathroom but I feel like it projects my voice more and I can hear clearly to see if I am in tune. Checking my watch one more time, I went into the café again and set up on the small stage by the back window. I sat on the small black stool that was set in the middle of the stage and introduced myself even though most of the people here already knew me. I started my performance with This City by Ed Sheeran.
After the performance was over I went over and ordered anotherdrink but I got a hot chocolate this time. I was approached by a teenage girl who told me that she loved my performance and she asked for my autograph. I was caught by surprise, this was the first time anyone had ever asked for my autograph. I agreed and signed a napkin she gave me. She thanked me and left. I made my way home to check up on my video. I was a little obsessed about checking my videos, I was always curious to see what people thought. My subscribers had commented with the usual saying that they liked the cover and they couldn't wait for the next cover. I went on Twitter to see what the latest news was with my favorite artists. I replied to a few friends and fans that tweeted me then got off of the computer and went to sleep.
