Crazy

I need that one thing

I grab my backpack and throw it over my shoulder as I head out the front door. It was a few minutes after 8 o’clock so I had more than enough time to get to my history lecture, which was at 8:30. I run a hand through my curls that weren’t as messy as they were when I first got up this morning.

I was most definitely not a morning person but if I wanted an education, I guess I have to even if it meant getting up at the ass crack of dawn for class. A loud yawn escapes my mouth as I step onto the porch and shut the door behind me.

Once I lock the door, I head down the steps of the wooden porch and begin my descent down the rickety steps to the pavement. I was glad the British History building wasn’t too far from the house where I lived along with Braden and Nick. When I was rushing out, I went straight past Nick’s room to find him still asleep, his door cracked open. He sure was one lucky bastard since he doesn’t have early classes and gets to sleep in. Practically every day, he’s pretty damn lucky if I say so myself.

I am soon on my way to my class. On my way out the door, I pull my headphones out of my backpack so I could listen to some music on the way to class. After I pull out my iPhone, I plug my headphones into the jack before sticking the ear buds into my ears. The sound of a song by Aerosmith was pounding through my headphones once I turned my music on; Walk This Way was one of my favorite songs.

As I head to the building, I am too into my music when I run into someone. They stumble to the floor, their bag scattering the ground, contents spilling out. I pull my headphones out of my ears and slip them in the front pocket of my jeans. I soon realize it was Sidney, her dark hair covering her face. She wore a dark long-sleeved shirt and a bright pair of pink skinny jeans that made her look quite fit. I smile a bit and mumble a soft ‘sorry’ to her under my breath. I grab her hand and help her up from the grass.

“H-hey,” I mumble as she glances up to me. She had a surprised look on her face as she looked up at me, her blue eyes shining in the sunlight. She begins to put her things back in her bag that had fallen out to the grass.

“Hey there,” I say and smile wide as I look at her. “Running late, yeah?” I ask looking at her as she gets up from putting her stuff into her bag and brushes off her clothes. She gives me a nod before she begins to walk off.

As soon as she walks off, I pick up my pace and begin to catch up with her. I sling my bag over my shoulder as I run behind her. I soon catch up to where she was and grab hold of her arm.

“C-can I ask you something, Sidney?” I ask looking at Sidney with a small smile on my face.

“Y-yeah, sure,” she says shifting the weight on her foot to the other. She seemed like she was nervous since she was running late to her class. That made me smile as I stared at her. She was beautiful; I didn’t want to look away. What was she doing to me?

“W-would you like to um, come over sometime and we could study or hangout, whatever you prefer? What class do you have right now? I’ll walk with you, I actually have a lecture for history in a few minutes,” I ask and look at the silver Rolex on my wrist to check the time. After checking the time, I look back up at the girl who stood before me.

She stays silent a few minutes before opening her mouth to speak, “Y-yeah, sounds good,” she replies with a smile. The smile on my face never fades. It only grows a bit wider as I stare at her. “I’d like that,” she says, her smile never leaving her face.

Her eyes seemed glassy and a bit redder than how they were when I saw her the night before; maybe she was just tired; it was quite early in the morning. I had a feeling that wasn’t the case, it couldn’t have been just the fact she was tired. I have a feeling I knew what it was…the dumb bastard himself, her so-called “boyfriend”, Chris. Every time I’ve been around her, I feel like I can keep her safe.

“Really?” I asked, staring at her, my eyebrows creased together.

I was kind of surprised that she didn’t reject my offer. If I were her, I’d want to be far from him as possible if he hurts her, physically abusing her, I mean. That’s how it sounds. If I’m ever with her and he lays a hand on her in my presence, he’s a dead man. No one, I mean nobody messes with any of my friends or loved ones. They’ll have to deal with me. I’ve had my share of that over the years growing up.

She gives me a nod and a small smile in return. I smile as I look at her. I was standing kind of close to her but a bit farther away where there was a bit of a gap between each of us.

“Great,” I say as the two of us begin to walk. “What’s your first class, love?” I ask glancing at her as we begin to walk, a few feet apart from each other. While we walked, I tried to keep myself from grabbing hold of her hand, because they brushed against each other a few times.

“History,” she replies looking at me. As I look at her, I can’t help but take in her beauty. Her long dark hair went perfectly with her slightly tanned skin-tone and made her blue eyes stand out. As she looks back at me, I notice a small smile creep up on her pink lips.

“I have a lecture for history myself,” I tell her with a slight chuckle. She lets out a small laugh and moves a piece of her hair that had fallen down over her eyes. We go on about a bunch of random things while we walk. Next time I look up, I notice we were in front of the history building.

“You wouldn’t mind giving me your number so I could give you a ring, would you?” I ask with a hint of a smirk on my lips. She rolls her eyes and nods her head, her eyes still locked with mine. My emerald eyes were swimming in her ocean blue ones. I didn’t want to look away.

“Got a pen? Need to get on to class,” she says, breaking me from my intent gaze into her eyes.

I slightly nod my head as I look at her and shift my gaze away from hers. I swing my bag over my shoulder so I could begin to search for a pen. I had to have had one somewhere. I unzip the front pocket and to my surprise pull out a black ball-point pen. I hand it over to her and set it in her small palm. She sure had small hands compared to mine, which were quite big. I could only imagine holding her hand in mine, her soft skin against my rugged skin.

She takes the pen from me and pulls the cap off. Once she got the cap off, I felt her reach forward and grab hold of my wrist. My lips curve up into a smirk as she scribbles her number along with her name onto my wrist. After she finished up, she handed the pen back to me. I shove it back into my bag before I turn back to her.

“Thanks beautiful; I’ll see you later,” I tell her before I turn and begin to walk off. She stood there staring off into space like she had a lot of stuff on her mind. A smile came across her face as I turn to head into the history building. I weave in and out through tons of students standing in the corridor so I could get to class. I soon arrive to the lecture hall and take my seat beside Braden and a few other guys. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted him, the prick himself, Chris Mour-ies standing there talking with a few other guys. I am soon pulled out of my thoughts as I hear Braden’s voice beside me.

“Yeah, mate? Sorry…” I avert my gaze back to his as he looks at me.

“Did you get all the notes from last lecture? I fell asleep last time,” he told me. I laugh at my mate and lean back in the seat, setting my backpack on the empty chair beside me.

“You gonna give it to me or what, Haz? What you lookin’ at, Styles?” he jokes with me and looks at me. I just nod and hold up a finger so he could hold on a second. I begin to rummage through my backpack so I could find those notes for him to copy, mumbling ‘no one’ to him. I soon come across the notes and pull them out and hand them to the boy beside me.

“What’s that there on your arm, Haz? Oh, her number I see?” I feel him grab hold of my wrist to get a glimpse of the script on my wrist in black ink. I give him a nod and smile in reply. As I stare at her number, I can’t help but think of her. The whole time during the lecture, she was on my mind. Just the fact that I finally had her number made me smile.

In the middle of copying the notes from today’s lecture in on my MacBook I had brought along with me, I decided to go on Twitter. I went to the search bar and typed in Sidney’s name. In result, a bunch of girls came up, but their profile pictures weren’t of her. They didn’t have the pretty blue eyes or the dark hair. I then decide to go to Claire’s profile, where I was sure I’d find her. They were friends so I’m sure they had to have been following each other on here.

I go to her ‘Followers’ and begin to scroll through to find Sidney. I smile as I come across her page, her twitter name was Sidney_Leighxo. Clicking on her profile, I notice her profile picture was of her and another blonde haired girl with blue eyes. They were both smiling and looked happy.

My eyes then went and caught a glimpse of her ‘about me’ part on her profile beneath her picture. It read, according to Sidney, that she was a real happy girl with a great boyfriend and had the best friends any girl could ever ask for. I scoffed at that, best boyfriend ever, yeah right.

I click on the follow button. It made me smile a bit that I was now following her on Twitter. Now if she would follow me back…hopefully she will in a few days. After I get off my Twitter page, I go back to doing my notes. An hour and a half was sure a hell of a long time to spend taking notes in a lecture. I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

For the rest of the lecture, I couldn’t help but think of Sidney. I even had the urge to go over and punch that stupid smirk off of Chris’ face as he stared at me from the corner of his eye. I shake those thoughts of beating his face in from my mind as I get back into typing up the notes from the lecture. The next thing I know, I am soon interrupted by the bell ringing. Finally! I think to myself as I close out of my word document and power my laptop off.

As if on cue, everyone stood up and walked out the doors of the lecture hall in big groups. When I was in the middle of putting my computer back into its case to protect it before I put it in my backpack, I felt eyes on me. “You comin’ mate?” I hear Braden say a bit loudly as my head shoots up to meet his gaze.

“Yeah,” I tell him and give him a firm nod of my head as I stand up from my seat swinging my backpack over my shoulder. I follow him out of the lecture hall where we were going to meet up with Nick. We talk about some random things as we head over to meet up with Nick at our usual spot near the fountain in the middle of campus. I had another class but it wasn’t for another hour or two.

Braden and I walk up to the fountain where Nick was sitting taking a drag of his cigarette. “Hey man,” he says blowing smoke out after pulling the cancer stick from his mouth.

“Hey Nick,” I tell him and take a seat beside him, putting one of his hands on my shoulders.

“Hey there, you guys!” Claire says in a chipper tone as she walks up with Braden, who had an arm around her waist. Told you they were more than friends, I was right. She is sure a quite happy lass in the morning. Nick and I reply with a ‘hello’ and a wave.

“Hey Harry! Just curious since I didn’t get a chance to ask you last night, but…what was Sidney doing there? It seemed pretty…intense,” she says with a slight laugh as she looks at me. I begin to explain everything from the confrontation with Chris and how later, she came over to talk, all that jazz.

“Nice going, mate! Are you already fancying her?” Nick asks patting me on the shoulder and lets out a laugh as he offers me a cig. I nod before I take one out of the pack along with the lighter from him to light it.

“Well,” I say as I take the first drag of my cigarette and continue, “I am, actually,” I say with a smile as I stick the cigarette back in between my lips.

“What’s that there on your arm, Harry? Sid’s number, I see? Braden told me you wanted it but I guess she got to you already,” she asks grabbing hold of my left wrist to examine the script on my arm, which was her number and name that she left along with a heart beside it. I give her a nod and laugh a bit.

“Yeah, Claire, what’s it look like?” I reply with a smirk as I remove the cigarette from my mouth that was resting between my forefinger and middle finger.

“Cocky much?” she responds. I just roll my eyes.

“I want to get to know her, really. She’s a fit girl, beautiful and I really want to get to know her, I don’t know what it is…I just need to, and plus, she agreed,” I say with a smile.

“You’re serious am I right, Haz? You know that there’s a big problem if you do get to know her…Chris Mour-ies ring any bells?” she tells me. I just nod my head in response.

Of course I knew he was a huge part of it–that’s why she came to talk to me. I was more than persistent on getting to know her; I wanted that more than anything to get to know her and have her as my own. If he ever lays a hand on her, he is a dead man. I was serious about that, and getting him out of her life, for good. I could treat her way better than he ever has, plus keep her safe.
