Chapter 22

Harry Styles

I had never done anything remotely close to what I did in the airport with Ellie. I just couldn’t stay still and watch her leave. Before I had thought about my faulty suggestion, the words already came out of my mouth. I was more shocked to hear her only give me a “fine” and not one of her I could tell Ellie, just from what I had seen in the previous couple months, was not one for missing work. She also did not seem like one to stray far from her plans. But there she was; she was resting her head on my shoulder with her eyelids covering those gray eyes I wouldn’t be able to see every day anymore.

As we were descending, I looked out the windows to my right to see land, much of which was filled up with houses, colorful houses. I couldn’t believe this was happening, but I was more excited than ever to spend time with Ellie alone for however long we decided.

“El, wake up,” I whispered and leaned my head over hers. She groaned in response and pushed her head further over my shoulder into my neck. Her proximity to me, her aroma, her skin in contact with mine- it was all too much. The blood rushing through my body was heated, but my skin displayed the opposite. The rolled up cuffs of my button down showed the goose bumps that formed on my arms. I couldn’t handle this girl. It hadn’t been more than four months and I knew I was already falling for her. I knew I couldn’t let anything more happen, but I wasn’t sure if I could.

The airplane rattled as we hit the ground. Ellie turned her body into mine, held on to my arm, and sunk her head into my chest. The rhythm of my heart beats increased, decreasing the time between each thump vibrating at the start of my chest. I had no control over what this girl was doing to me. I wasn’t sure if I wanted any control because who knows what I would had done. I knew what I wanted to do though, and I felt rightfully guilt for even thinking it. I had a girlfriend and Ellie was my best friend. That sort of stuff should not have been happening or going through my mind. But it was uncontrollable.

A short while after the plane was still on the ground, the seat belt light overhead turned off. I looked down to Ellie who was rubbing her forehead back and forth on my arm. She finally looked up. She smiled as she looked me in the eyes.

“I can’t believe we are doing this,” she started laughing.

“Me neither,” I joined in laughter and shook my head. “Told you we were crazy.” She hit my arm and got up.

We exited the airport, winter coats and scarves in hand and no luggage to carry. We landed at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport and from there we had to take two bus rides to reach our destination: Valparairso, Chile. Ellie continued to sleep on both bus rides with her head resting in my lap and her legs sprawled across the third seat next to her. I, on the other hand, kept my eyes on Chile’s surroundings outside while my mind created more problems every minute. I had no idea what we were doing. What were we thinking by taking this trip? There was no way I could get away in a city like this and not get noticed. I knew my management would ring me by the neck when they would find out about my spontaneous trip. I knew Hallie would be hurt. I knew I would skew up a storm in the fandom. But I did not care at all. Every time I looked down at the petite body, all of these worries did not matter to me. And yet she was the cause of all of them.

We finally reached our destination in darkness. We took a taxi ride over to the hotel I was able to book in such short notice, of course with my name to thank.

“El, we’re here,” I said as the driver stopped in front of a red building with white trimmings illuminated by yellow tinted lights.Ellie had luckily been awake the entire car ride, but she was looking out the window and practically sat on the door. It was like she was trying to stay as far away from me as possible.

She nodded and opened the door slowly. I followed her actions after handing the driver his payments and an added tip. I opened the door and stepped onto the curb, getting closer the big red building sitting in front of us.From what I could see, the hotel reminded me of buildings I had see in New Orleans before. It had character, but it was very well kept and modern simultaneously.

I felt Ellie’s presence beside me and I turned to her with a big smile. She looked up at me, diffident evident from her face. I grabbed her duffel bag out of her hand and nodded.

“Ready for the best and most spontaneous trip of your life?”
She nodded and finally smiled as we walked up the steps and passing the white pillars at the end of the surrounding red walled fencing into the front patio. I looked up to the building, which resembled more of a large house than a hotel. Light shone through the white curtains of the windows above. My stomach weighed down in anxiety and the back of my mind filled with concern and sudden regret for such a meaningless trip.

I tried to ignore my inner warnings as I held the door open for Ellie. I followed in behind her and was struck with cinnamon and spices I couldn’t identify wafting through the main room. It was clean and modernized, but still showcased the same character as the outside. It was a small room, but held no other purpose than that of a hotel lobby, so it was understandable. Judging from what I had seen so far, had been content with my last minute booking.

“Bienvenida al Palacio Astoreca,” a woman said behind a dark mahogany desk. I turned to her, brunette Sunplanned.

“Hi, uh, no hablo español,” I tried. Ellie snickered at my side and I turned to glare at her, but her happiness made me smile. “Un pequeño,” I motioned. She shook her head, still smiling.

My admiration for the woman with such beautiful gray eyes and contagious smile grew. I couldn’t come to a clear with what I felt for her. What was I doing with her?

“Not a problem. Do you have a reservation?” The dark haired woman asked behind her desk, snapping me out of my dangerous trance.

“Yes, under Styles,” I turned my focus back to her.

“Ah, Mr. Styles. You are just staying for tonight, correct?” She asked.

“No. Can I book the room for the next week at least?” I looked behind me at Ellie who had a look of astonishment written across her face. He eyes were fully visible and one eyebrow was arched up as her mouth dropped open. I shot her a wink before turning back to pay.

“Harry, staying here for a week is a long time. I definitely don’t think I can stay for more than a week. You cannot afford to stay more than a week with your job.”

I rolled my eyes as I turned the key and pushed the door open.

“Will you stop making excuses? We are going to have a great time.” My voice trailed off after I flipped the light switch up, illuminating the room. I looked around at the enclosed space: a mix of dark and light shaded hardwood flooring at the base of white walls, which had large windows opened up to the dark night. In front of me was a sitting area of four chairs and two couches around a dark coffee table. The furniture was modern and the space was clean and well decorated, but not too empty.

“Holy crap,” Ellie’s small voice came from behind me. “Is this what you usually stay in, superstar?”

I had stayed in the nicest hotels in the world, but none compared to this. Nothing compared
to what I was going to experience with Ellie.

“No, not usually. This is just so different.” I walked forward, looking to the right, which looked like a kitchen and dining area, and then to my left, where I saw the sleeping area.
I walked to the left, an open room with a rather large bed at the center. I was surrounded by a deep red, which covered the walls. On the right side, more windows showcased the potential view. A white bathtub sat beside the windows. The rest of the furniture that filled the room carried the same theme: modern, simple, but still antiqued.

“Holy crap,” I heard Ellie behind me.

“I know,” I turned and smiled at her. I dropped her bag beside the foot of the bed and walked toward her with a grin.

“Harry, no,” she shook her head and retreated backwards as I continued to walk toward her with open arms. “No, no, no.”

“Oh, yes, yes, yes.” I took one last large step forward, catching her in her attempt to turn and run. Her body was sealed tightly to mine; my arms squeezed her body and I felt her squirming, but she made no progress in her escape.

“Smelly Ellie,” I spoke into her ear and buried my face into her dark hair. “You really live up to your name,” I joked.

“Hey!”

“Smell good that is,” I laughed and took a deep breathe of her smooth brown head.

“That’s what I thought,” I heard a small chuckle escape her.

“Pears and honey with a touch of rainbows.”

“You’re such a little shit,” she laughed and escaped my hold in my state of distraction and weakness with her laughter to blame.

“I don’t know about you but I am starved.”

“Me too. This whole day of doing nothing but sitting really made me work up an appetite,” I joked

“This was your idea; must I remind you, smart ass.”

I watched as she walked out of the room. Her dark brown locks moved slightly and her behind swayed in her black tight jeans at the function of her small legs.
