Chapter 14

Ellie Hoover

“So tell me how life has been these past few years. I’d like to catch up with my old friend,” Harry asked me.

I placed my fork on the plate beside the roasted potatoes I had yet to try due to Harry’s constant need to talk. He had talked nonstop the entire day. It was nice to get into the museum and not have to listen to Harry asking questions and blabbering about nonsense, which I had learned to tune out.

“Life has been great. What would you like to know about me, Harry?” I asked, folding my hands in front of me and raising and an eyebrow.

He lifted his head up from his food and looked at me straight into the eyes, catching me off guard. The green in his eyes was clearer, more predictable than in past days.

He wiped his mouth with the napkin he kept on his thigh and took a sip of the ale. Harry waited until all the liquid passed through his throat to speak.

“Start from university. We have a whole Sunday roast to talk this over,” he showed his world famous cheeky grin.

“Yes, a whole Sunday Roast I would like to eat, not sit and talk over while it gets cold,” I replied.

“Then talk fast,” he said before he started picking at his food once more.

I figured not having to hear Harry’s voice for a little while would be a good thing; so I gave in.
“Well, I’m sure someone has filled you in with what happened before university. I left England with a scholarship to the University of Washington for business. I jumped at the opportunity because I hated it in Holmes Chapel. So after convincing nan and papa, I moved to America and stopped at home in Seattle. Best decision I ever made.” I looked up at Harry who was more interested in me than his food at that point. He nodded his head, encouraging me to continue.

“So I started a new life in America. College was,” I looked into the frigid water beside me, dazed. “College was amazing.I learned a lot. I had a lot of firsts,” I winked, causing Harry to smirk. “Sophomore year we had a business project where the students had to create his own business. And that is where the lovely Stone Remains became a part of my life. It was so successful and I loved the business so I kept it up. I met a guy, nothing serious anymore. I graduated and stayed in Seattle. Somehow here I am, sitting, eating, and drinking with a famous boybander.”

His gorgeous eyes rolled and his head shook. “You say that like it is a bad thing.”

“Maybe it is,” I joked.

“Rubbish. So where are you in your life now?” He asked, with serious entailed in his voice.

“Right now, I have no clue. I’m twenty-one years old and I still don’t know how to ride a bike or swim. My best friend is my roommate and she absolutely drives me crazy. My business is my life and I’m most likely going to get gray hairs before I’m thirty. Oh!” I instantly straightened, remembering. “I am also in the process of taking the business to the streets and placing a shop somewhere, but I have no idea where.” I realized talking to Harry was so easy. I would have continued on, probably venting on about my life and problems for hours without a car. That’s what scared me; I was getting so comfortable around him. “Blimey! Don’t tell anyone I told you that either.”

“Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” he winked.

I groaned. “With you comes management teams and millions of fan girls, so I don’t know if anything is safe with you.”

“Touché.” He looked back down and started picking distractedly at his meat. “So, that bloke you mentioned,” he started, keeping his eyes casted down on the plate in front of him. “You are still seeing him, but not seriously? Did I get that right?” He finally looked up on his last four syllables.

His eyes were blazing through mine, waiting for an answer. His face was hard, but his eyes showed a glint of hurt and I could see he was scared as to what my answer would be. Suddenly, I wasn’t sure how to answer. I wasn’t sure if wanted him to know the truth and I didn’t know why I cared if Harry knew.

Suddenly, I was the timid one now. I looked at my point, searching for the right answer, the only one being to down the rest of the rusty liquid. It sounded better than looking back at Harry.

“I,” I paused, trying to think of the best way to say it. “I am still seeing him. Off and on I guess. I don’t know, we have had something for a while and it’s hard to let go I guess?”

Harry nodded, looking away. His lips were set in a straight line; he was tense, but not mad.
“It’s the one from last week, isn’t it?” Harry concluded.

I made a slight move with my head and started eating my cold food Harry had ordered me. There were a couple minutes of silence, which for the first time were awkward, between us. The only other sounds to be heard were the bustling starting in the pub from the Brits getting off work and the wind that was starting to pick up causing my skin to form goosebumps and my teeth to chatter.

“You’re cold. Let’s head home,” Harry said before standing up.
