The Flashbacks

Chapter five

-Flashback-

It was freshman year of high school, very first day as I walk through the doors of the old looking building. I walk down the lines of locker, looking again at the sheet I held in between my index finger and thumb, confirming that my locker number was 101. I sigh heavily, shaking my head as people ram into me, playing games in the hall instead of going to homeroom. I shift my book bag to hang out over my shoulder, unzipping it and grabbing my binder and books out of the pouch. I unload my things carefully into my locker, slamming it shut and walking to class, sitting next to the blonde boy from the bus and setting my stuff on the desktop.

I see him glance over at me, foot tapping quickly under his desk and pencil tapping on his desk. He shifts in his seat, turning in his desk as he leans his elbow onto mine, a wide smile showing off his perfectly straight and pearl white teeth. "I'm Niall." he whispers, ocean blue eyes staring through my chocolate brown ones.

I'd always been quite insecure about the color of my eyes, the color horribly matching the color of something you'd want to flush down the loo; NOT something people would enjoy eating. But people constantly tell me that they're more chocolate than poo, and I guess that helps out.

But his eyes were gorgeous, the color of a light blue ocean. The kind you could swim in on a hot summer day, although those days rarely existed here, and could easily get lost in. And I guess I had for a second because he started waving his hand in my face.

I look at him, blinking a few times before focusing again. "Here!" I say quickly when the teacher reads my name off the roster, looking back at Niall. I brush the hair from my face, hearing the beat of my heart increase with every second passing by.
"Um, we met on the bus this morning." I say quietly, looking in my lap. Of course he wouldn't remember, no one does.
"Oh, Kaitlyn right? Sorry, it's all been a blur for me this morning." He apologizes.

I bite the inside of my cheek, nodding my head slowly as my lips part slightly. "That's my name." I whisper to him, gathering my things from my desk. "And yeah, me too. It's alright Niall." I say sadly, getting up quickly when the bell rings, going to PE.

I stumble back from her large leap she made to hug me, quickly regaining my balance I held before and wrapping my arms around her body, smiling brightly.

"Hi Kaitlyn." I whisper, pulling her close to me and breathing in the perfume she wore. It was my favorite, which means when I complimented it it meant something to her.

She unwraps her arms from around my waist, stepping away so she could look up at me without craning her neck. Her lips parted, tears covering the brim of her eyes as she quickly wiped them, a large smile plastered onto her face.

"How've you been?" she asks quietly, shifting on her feet and looking at me hopefully.

"I'm not sure, but I think I've been doing pretty well if I say so myself." I smile. "You?" I ask, looking down at her.

"Oh, I've been swell." she says, sticking her hands in her back pockets and moving back and forth from her toes to her heel.

"How was college?" she asks silently, squinting her eyes. "I see the usual ray bans and quiffed hair, along with the jacket. Has anything changed about my Nialler?" she giggles, teeth shining out in her magnificent smile.

I shrug slightly, laughing with her. "Don't know. I don't do drugs. But I also don't live in my parents basement either. I would say I've changed, financially at least. I have a house. " I smile.

She giggles harder, holding her stomach and crouching over, putting a finger in the air and I laugh, waiting for her to calm down.

She stands up straight, taking a deep and long breath before smiling brightly at me.

"Have you seen the school? The high school, I mean. People are saying it's creepy and abandoned." she says, shivering slightly.

My lips part and I nod, looking at her. I don't know whether I should tell her I've been in or not, but I decide I would because I don't think she would make a big deal of it. "Mhmm, it's pretty scary in there. I won't lie."

"You went in??" she asks in shock, jaw dropping and I nod my head, moving my glasses up.

"Take me in there." she says excitedly, jumping up in excitement.
