Never Is A Promise

I felt my stomach clench as I ate forcing something into my system even if it was just for a little while, currently my body was going a little crazy since the doctors had taken me off the immune suppressant for a few weeks to try and help my body stay in remission. It was hell I was sick and my body hated everything I put into it, “I now know why I lost so much weight” I said gritting my teeth so I didn’t vomit my toast back up. We started work today and I really didn’t want to deal with this feeling all day Aly sighed handing me two tablets of Aleve. I smiled at her popping them in my mouth. I grabbed the rest of my breakfast “Ok we don’t want to be late during our trial period at work” I said Aly nodded leading the way out to the car. It had been two weeks since we met the boy and our trial time as the boys PR managers was up tomorrow and Simon had yet to tell us anything relating to the decision.

I was finally out of my wheelchair and the doctors thought I would be cleared to start dancing by the end of the week. I walked out of the elevator met immediately by Simon “Where is Aly?” he asked. I shook my head, Simon was waiting for us, this couldn’t be good.

“She’s parking she let me off up front first. What’s going on you look stressed”

He let out a cold laugh “Sugarscape got a hold of the girl who asked the Mickole question at the interview and are going to be releasing it as a story in T minus two hours.”

“That’s not good” I said my eyes widening

“Tell me about it, having that brought up now is going to be a huge set back for the boys, we had to cancel a ton of interviews and meet and greets six months ago because of her, imagine what’ll happen if it suddenly becomes an interview topic.” I hissed this wasn’t good at all.
“Texted Aly to meet me in my office we have 2 hours to bury this story, forever.” He said motioning for me to follow him.

I plopped on the couch “What if we told Sugarscape the truth?” Simon shook his head; I nodded to Aly as she walked in.

“That wouldn’t bury the story.” Simon sighed, “The only thing I can think of is calling and denying it.”

“Yeah but if Harry knew we did that-,” Aly said trailing off.

“I know he’d walk out” Simon looked down at his desk, I then noticed the applications on the desk, I saw Simon’s eyes flutter over my full name and the other address I had lived at in the past 4 years the Holmes Chapel address. He stared at me, “We couldn’t deny it but Mickole Jacei Dearth could.” he said looking at me his expression unreadable. I couldn’t tell if he was mad or happy. The only thing I could tell was I was going to be having a talk with Simon after I got off the phone.

“What is Sugarscapes’ number?” I asked. Simon handed me a piece of paper. I nodded dialing “Hi Sugarscape?.. Yes well I’m Mickole Dearth.. Yes the same.. No you see your source is wrong… Nope never dated, we were neighbors.. No nothing more… No we almost never talked.. Nope the only girl he dated in Holmes Chapel was Felicity.. Yeah, not a problem just trying to save you from printing wrong information… No Anne told us what was happening and gave me your number… Alright. Have a nice day.” I clicked the phone squeezing my eyes shut.

“I’m sorry you had to do that babe” Aly said.

“I never thought I’d have to deny that. Of all things.” I took a deep breath “It was for him though so I really can’t complain.”

“I know Dusty, but at least you’re looking out for him.. Even if it is your job now,” Aly said hugging me.

“Care to explain to me, how Harry’s dead ex-girlfriend is now one of his PR managers?” Simon asked sitting partially on his desk.

“I swear, I’ve explained this the most in the past month than ever before.” I said laughed Simon looked confused “Louis and Liam figured out who I was in the first 3 hours of meeting them. I took off from Holmes Chapel after being diagnosed with malignant leukemia that spread into lymphoma as well in the next year, 7 months ago I went in for a risky experimental surgery to try and cure the cancer and put me into remission which I am in currently and I have been in for 4 months now, longer than ever before. While I was in surgery I flat-lined 4 times and I gave Aly the letter to send incase I didn’t make it she sent it during the time I flat-lined the longest. So technically I did die I just was stubborn and came back. So after I got out of the hospital Aly took me to the concert and meet and greet where we met you. And here I am.”

“You haven’t told Harry?” Simon asked “Aly could you leave, I want to speak to Mickole privately. Oh Aly, do try to get this whole Lucy Horobin thing off the news,” Aly nodded leaving the room to go work on a few press releases. As the door shut Simon turned back to me.

“I’ve put him through enough, if he never figures it out then I’m ok with that. It means he never has to get hurt by me again.” I replied

“Your just scared of his reaction” Simon said, I nodded sheepishly “I don’t approve of this but I’ll try my best to keep your cover. However I will be calling you by something closer to your name since you and Aly are going to be working here.”

“I completely understand… Wait, we got the jobs?!” I yelled.

“Yes, you were more than willing to throw your own personal life away for the boys, you obviously care about them and that is what we need in a PR person.” I jumped up hugging Simon “One thing though,” He said looking at me “You aren’t allowed to date any of the boys.”

“But Aly and –“

“No, YOU aren’t allowed to date them, I’ve seen the way Harry and Zayn look at you, I’m not blind, and if you are dating them and Harry finds out it’ll cause more harm than we want to deal with.“ I nodded. “Besided I know Darren from Little Mix’s management team has asked about you quite a bit.” I nodded remembering him from the floor, he was cute in that hot nerdy hipster way, but he wasn’t Harry.
