Make It Stop ⇼ Luke Hemmings

Twenty-Five.

Luke and I are sprawled out on my bed, his feet propped up on a pillow he’d thrown toward the end of the bed when we got to my house, and his arms behind his head as he watched telly. My ankles were crossed as my head lied on the bare mattress, my pillow had fallen to the floor, and I was far too lazy to pick it up. He and I were watching Aladdin, and not speaking too much, as he was consumed in his phone like always. I picked at the skin around my nails. They looked so horrible. We’ve been in the same positions for about two hours. School had gotten out early today, which is quite odd for a Tuesday. But, hey, if we get out at 10:40am regardless of the day, I’m happy.
Romy!” Luke groaned, throwing his phone on the bed.
“Yeah, bae?” He glanced at me as I used the terminology he hated.
“I like your shirt.” He poked my stomach, causing me to giggle.
“Thought you would.”
I’m bored.” He sighed.
“You’re always bored.” I corrected. “How can you be bored? We’re watching Aladdin!” I joked, earning a playful eyeroll.

“I want to do something.” He ignored his phone as it went off, tying our hands together as he played with my fingers.
“Like what?” He shrugged.
“I don’t know!” He laughed. “Movies, lunch, drag me to the mall and make me sit around while you try on clothes, take me to do your dumb girly things. I’m bored! I want to get out of the house.” I sighed, shaking my head as I smiled at our connected hands.
“I can guarantee you that if I take you to do my dumb girly things, you’ll be twice as bored.” Luke frowned.
“You don’t want to take me?” He pretended to be hurt.
“It’s not that.” I laughed. “You’re going to be bored.” I insisted.
“I have to get used to it sooner or later. I mean if we’re going to get marri-” I cut him off.
“That’s really corny.” I teased, standing up and detaching our hands, bringing myself to the mirror and looking at myself. “You’re just going to be on your phone the whole time, anyways.” Luke stood, grabbing his phone and turning it off, sliding it in my back pocket as he positioned himself behind me, setting his hands on my waist and his chin on my shoulder.
“I’m all yours.” He smiled.

“I guess I need to get my eyebrows done.” I examined myself in the mirror. “I could go for a manicure, too.” Luke smiled.
“See! Take me to do your dumb things which you deem essential.” He nearly begged.
“Are you sure?” I asked, turning to him. “You’re going to get bored.” Luke groaned.
“Yes, let’s just go. I don’t want to be here anymore.” Without any further objection, he pulled me out of the door.

Luke and I went to a nail salon, where I got my eyebrows waxed and was in the midst of getting a manicure. No longer than ten minutes into the visit, I noticed Luke slumped in the waiting chairs, flipping through girly magazines at first, and then opted to sulk in the chair, watching as different ladies came in and out. His phone was still in my pocket, and despite the fact that he tried to come retrieve it, the workers yelled at him for crossing the invisible line between the waiting area and the working area. I tried to offer him a small smile, as he’d been waiting for almost an hour while my fingers sat under the dryer, but he sighed in return. After a few minutes, he came to sit next to me. The workers seemed to consider yelling at him again, but saw that he was with me and opted out.

“I’m bored.” He sighed. “You were right.” I shook my head.
“I’m always right.” I joked.
“Okay.” He nodded. “New rule. I’m never coming to do girly things with you again.” I smiled, biting my lip to try and hide it.
“Yes you will.” I bet, kissing his nose. “You secretly love being here.” I joked, earning an immediate glare and a head shake.
“I hate it.” He stated.
“I told you that you would, now stop acting like a child and go out to the car while I pay.” Luke sighed, throwing his head back as he dragged himself out of the nail salon, and waited for me in the car.

"All we ever do is watch films." Luke complained, stirring in his bed.
"What else is there to do?" I argued.
"They're not even good films!" He scrolled through Netflix.
"What do you want me to do about it?" I snapped. He and I had been edgy all morning, as we had an off day from school, and had absolutely nothing to do. I’d woke up from a call asking me to come over, only for Luke to be crabby toward me, and my mood reflecting his in return.
“I don’t know.” He grumbled, pulling the blanket over his head, in result, it flew over mine as well.
“Luke.” I mumbled as he poked my side. “Luke, stop.” I found it hard not to crack a smile at his childishness. “Luke!” I exclaimed, swatting his hand away. “I said stop it!” He sighed loudly, pushing the blanket away from us and standing up, and exiting his room. “Where are you going?!” I called after him, only for him to close the door, leaving me alone in his room.

After a few moments, I heard his mum’s voice.
“Thought Romy was over?” She seemed confused, as we’d been with each other all day.
“She is.” He whined. “We have nothing to do.” I could sense an eyeroll in his voice. I crawled out of his bed, slowly leaving his room while I dragged myself down the stairs.
“Go for a walk, or to the park? Get some fresh air! It’s a nice day out!” She offered.
“I don’t want to!” Luke protested, crossing his arms as I reached the kitchen. I leaned against the doorframe, not quite making my presence known, but allowing it to be a glance away.
“Lucas Robert Hemmings!” Liz scolded. “I know you’re still upset about what happened last night, but that is absolutely no reason to sulk and be cranky all day!” Luke glanced at the floor before looking back up to see me. Sighing, he straightened from leaning against the counter.
“Walk?” He asked I merely shrugged, allowing him to grab my hand and pull me out of the house.

“So what happened last night?” I asked Luke as we walked, our hands intertwined and swinging back and forth. We’d been walking around the block for a good half hour, and hadn’t said much at all. We just kept circling the neighborhood.
“Doesn’t matter.” He shrugged the issue off, crossing the street with me and to the park, where I sat on a swing. Luke stood behind me, letting go of my hand and pushing me lightly.
“Matters to me.” I argued, earning a sigh.
“It’s my grandma.” He spoke as if it didn’t matter. “She’s only got a few days.” He took the swing next to me, his face in a seemingly permanent frown.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered. He shook his head. “You should be with her, not with me.”
“No.” He rasped. “It’s fine, I wanted to see you.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me up so we started walking again.
“Well, it’s only noon. You saw me, now go see her.” He nodded slowly as we began walking to my house.
“I’ll walk you home.” He noted,

As I fumbled with my phone, it fell out of my hand, landing on the sidewalk.
“Aw man!” I exclaimed, picking it up to reveal a crack. “You’ve cat to be kitten me right meow!” I punned, in attempt to cheer him up at my misfortune. Luke glanced at me, to my cat shirt, then back to my eyes.
“Did you just…” His voice trailed off. “I can’t believe you…” Again, he stopped, shaking his head and pretending like he didn’t think that was hilarious. He tried to stop a smile from spreading, but ultimately failed. “You’re so dumb!” He insulted, cracking into a grin.
“You love it.” I shrugged, leading Luke up to my door, placing my back against it as he leaned into me, holding my waist instead of my hand.

“Hello Romy!” A voice broke our conversation. We glanced across the street to see Danny, a fit, twenty year old man who lived across the street. He and I hung out a bit when we were children, and Luke’s always hated him on account that Danny used to tease him, and was the lad Madison Brown slept with, cheating on him.
“Hey Danny!” I smiled back, glancing at Luke to see an annoyed expression.
“Tell your mum I said hello and that I’ll be over Tomorrow afternoon to mow the lawn.” He grinned.
“Sure thing!” I laughed a bit, ignoring Luke as he let go of me and stood straight.

“What?” I inquired, biting my lip.
“What?” He mocked. “He’s mowing your lawn now? I fucking hate Danny.” Sighing, I let my hands wrap around his sweater, pulling it up so it sat straight on his shoulders.
“I know.” I mumbled. “But he and I used to be friends. The least I could do is say hello to him every once and a while.” Luke rolled his eyes for what seemed like the hundredth time today. “It’s okay.” I whispered, sinking my arms around his shoulders. “Lukey.” I pouted, as he didn’t return the gesture of holding me. “Please.” I pleaded, setting my hand on his chest. “You’re just jeal-” I was immediately cut off.
“No!” He frowned. “I most certainly am not.” He growled.
“Yeah?” I challenged, knowing I would get a reaction.
“Yeah.” He pouted. “I won. Not him. “ He glared across the street. I couldn’t help but smile, turning his face to me and kissing him gently.
“Okay, baby.” I smiled. “Goodbye.” I pecked his lips once again.
“Goodbye.” He strained, smiling lightly before walking away.
