The Love Countdown

twenty six;

unedited yo

There it was.

We had both said it.

We had both expelled the words one another had wanted to hear for the past six months, and God, did it feel good.

After our date Harry had driven back to the hospital, claiming that he'd stay there for as long as I was admitted, but I insisted that he'd go home and have a decent night’s sleep, because they had the Brit Awards tonight, and they'd be wanting their energy.

I also told him to go because it was my birthday today, the day I would turn fifteen. Thinking about it, so much has happened in the last year; I met Harry, I dropped out of school, I quit my job, I even cut off all ties with my friends and family, Harry had said that Maddy came around once when I was asleep, but other that she hadn't bothered to call or anything.

"Happy birthday," was the first thing my Mother said as she walked into my room.

"Thank you," I replied, and fiddled with the hospital bracelet. "Why are you here?" I know it was a bit harsh, but she was making me leave for crying out loud, after everything we've been through, this is how it ends.

"I've come to tell you that your Father and I have spoken," her face visibly cringed, her dark red nails held onto the coffee come tightly. "And we've decided to let you stay until Monday."

"Really?" I breathed as a smile grew across my face. We were meant to leave tomorrow. "What made you change your mind?"

She sighed heavily and placed her handbag down onto the table, and sat on the chair beside my bed. I had a better look at her now; her hair wasn't neatly combed and styled like it usually was, and the redness around her eyes signalled that she'd been crying. I heard her sniff quietly, and a head when up to her cheek to quickly dash tears away.

"I see the way you look at him," She said. "I, I see the way you look and I-" She stopped mid-sentence, her voice was rough and my heart clenched. "I can't just make you leave like that, not on short notice."

The anger that had been building up in my stomach these past few years towards my Mother had suddenly died down. Seeing her in a vulnerable state like this was unknown territory, Mum was tough, she'd always been like that. But she had become more strict and mean once my brother had died, to her defence, she did lose a son.

But on the bright side I was happy to take anything she gave me, it meant that I'd be able to spend more time with Harry, and just be able to chill out and not worry about anything for another week.

"So, we're leaving in another week?" I confirmed and she nodded her head. "I don't know what came over me," She replied. "I know what type of feelings you have towards him. I should know, I had the exact same feelings when I met your Father." Oh no, she was going to go all sappy and sweet on me and tell me that story about how 'Mum and Dad met and they fell in love'.

But instead she laughed quietly to herself and looked at her watch. "We should probably get going now," I frowned my eyebrows in confusion, what did she mean get going?

"You're allowed out of the hospital today," She said and I grinned, had three days gone by that quickly?

Mum stood up abruptly and towered over me in her high heels, as she went to pick up my bag of various belongings, a nurse came in.

"Miss Williamson, you're being discharged today, we will have to get your Mother to sign some papers and then we'll give you another check over, then you're free to go."

****

"Aren't we going back to mine?" I questioned quietly as I sat in the front seat of my Mother’s car, it was big and had leather seats that heated up in the Winter, just like Harry's.

"Yes," she replied. 'But I feel as if you need to go somewhere else first." A faint smile played on her lips as we drove down the all too familiar street, the one which held Harry's house.

I clutched tightly onto my phone in anticipation, why was my Mother taking me here?

The suddenly stopped once we were in front of the apartment building, it built on a quiet street, Louis had told me numerous times that it was safer this way, and I never understood why, but now I do.

"The boys asked me if you were able to come with them to the Brits," My heart jumped and I whipped my head around, "I said no." I frowned momentarily, until she spoke again. "But, I did say that you could see them before they left, because we all know you won't see them until tomorrow midday, they'll be so hung over, it'll be ridiculous."

A short laugh forced itself out of my lips as I opened the door to car and got out, shutting the door behind me and walking towards the entrance of the building, Mum following closely behind.

A broad smile was sent my way as I walked past the front desk; I shot them a quick smile and headed towards the elevators. The ride up to Harry's apartment was quiet; the sound of my heavy breathing was the only thing that could be heard.

After the final ding of the elevator the doors opened at the second floor from the top, the white walls and black carpet some sort of comforting feeling coursed through me as I walked down the hallway, I could hear the faint sounds of laughter come from behind the door as I stood in front of it.

I knocked quietly and waited, until I heard loud footsteps near the door.

The door swung open to reveal Louis, who was dressed in black, he also needed a haircut.

"Harry!" He yelled, "Your Damsel is here!" I rolled my eyes playfully and smiled, before pushing past him and into the house- it felt as if I hadn't been here in years.

Harry stumbled out moments later, his hair was dishevelled and his shirt was unbuttoned down bit to reveal the tattoos on his chest, I had to swallow hard and look away.

"Glad you could make it." He smiled playfully and planted a soft kiss to my head, before flicking his head in the opposite direction, signalling for me to follow him into the kitchen.

"Libby!" Niall squealed in excitement and ran over to engulf me in his arms, “Happy birthday,” He whispered and I hugged him tighter.

“Can’t believe you’re fifteen already, seems like only yesterday we were freaking out that you were fourteen and he was nineteen,” Louis sighed sarcastically and Harry hit him in the arm, followed by a hard glare.

“Hey! I’m twenty now, and Libby is fifteen, it’s been a year. Get over it.”

Harry’s words were right. It had been almost a year since we’d met on that overwhelming day; time seemed to just fly by. I’d made so many friends since then, and lost a lot too, Harry and I were as strong as ever and it felt so good.

“We have to leave soon!” Zayn interrupted our conversation. I hadn’t even noticed he was here until he spoke.

Harry sighed from beside me and shoved his phone in his pocket, before grabbing his keys and heading to the door. We all piled out in a single file through the front door and down the elevator, before walking over to the car.

“Promise me you won’t get drunk,” I pleaded as Niall, Liam, Harry, Louis and Zayn hopped into the car. He just smirked and planted a kiss to my lips, “No promises.” He replied and I playfully glared at him.

“I’ll be home by eleven, don’t wait up because I know you’re tired,” He spoke from the passenger’s seat as the car roared to life.

“I love you!” He yelled and I giggled, and they were off.

Now, I was all alone.

**********

If there was one thing I hated, it was stress.

It was already 11:30 and Harry still wasn’t home, I decided to stay up till he came home, just to make sure he didn’t hurt himself or fall over his shoes or something…because knowing him, he would.

I was curled up underneath the blankets on his couch watching reruns of A League Of Their Own, I’d seen each episode at least three or four times, but I wanted to wait for Harry to make sure he was okay, because after all, he did the exact same thing for me.

Suddenly, a loud thumb interrupted my thoughts and my head shot up. The jingling of keys and the loud cough that followed signalled that he was home, and by the sound of that cough…he was drunk.

“Babe!” He yelled and I jumped up immediately from my seat; he was drunk; totally mortal and off his nut.

“Baaaabbeee,” He dragged on and I wrapped a hand round his waist while he leant his side on my shoulder, but careful not to crush me.

“So many drinks,” He whined, and I rolled my eyes. I maneuverer him around the living room and into our bedroom, where he flopped onto the bed face first, groaning inaudibly.

“Geez Harry, how much did you drink?”

“So many,” He groaned again and turned to lay on his back with his hands behind his head, his eyes twinkled with mischief. He flicked his wrist at me, and I obeyed, crawling onto the bed and lying beside him. His arms encircled around my waist and I could smell the alcohol on him.

“Y’know,” He whispered and trailed his lips down my neck. “Haven’t had sex in a while,”

“Harry!” I gasped and ripped myself from his grip to stand up again, a giggle escaped his lips and I pursed mine in reply.

This was going to be such a long night.
