'You're right. It could be dangerous without a light. But what if they go away?'
Harry took the lead and walked out of the cave, still holding my hand.
'If we're quick, they won't be far.'
What he said sounded sensible, but I wasn't happy with it. I wanted to reach those people as soon as possible.
We hurried to the shelter, waking everyone up in the process. Harry quickly made a torch and we went back to the cave, Niall and Louis walking behind us, while Liam and Zayn were still in their beds. 'So what exactly are we going to do in that cave?' Niall asked, yawning.
'We heard someone down there. We might have found people.' Harry answered, protecting the flame of the torch with his hand.
'I hope the flame doesn't die in that cave. Because of the low oxygen levels.' Harry whispered to me. I chuckled. 'If there's not enough oxygen for the flame, we'll die too, Harry.' I answered.
'Oh, yeah. You're right.'
Harry led the group, illuminating the cave with the torch. The ground slowly declined, but at some point, it steeply went down. We carefully held on to the rocks as we made our way to what we presumed was the end of the cave.
We all stopped when we heard the whining again. This time; much closer.
It was the only sound in the whole cave, exept for our heavy breathing.
'Is that... a child?' Niall asked. We all shrugged. 'Sounds like it.' I mumbled, getting a strange feeling in my abdomen.
The sound had reminded me of things I didn't want to think about.
'I'll go first.' Harry whispered, holding the torch with one hand and holding on to a rock with the other, while making the last steps until he finally reached the end of the steep path.
We saw him move around a corner and I followed him.
Suddenly, my foot slipped away and I nearly fell, but I managed to save myself by holding on to a small ledge. At the same time, I felt a sharp pain, so I jumped down and walked towards the light, discovering a deep cut in my hand.
'Fuck.' I muttered.
'You okay?' Niall asked, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. I nodded. 'Yeah...'
Then, I heard the sound of cloth being ripped. I looked at Niall, who ripped off a piece of his shirt, before handing it to me. 'How did you do that?' I asked, wrapping it around my hand.
'I'm superman.' Niall grinned.
'And seriously?'
'There was a hole in my shirt.'
Our heads shot up when we heard a cooing voice and the whining died down.
I moved around the corner as well and my mouth fell at the sight of Harry holding a baby.
There was nobody else. Not even a sign of humanity.
Just the cave, Harry and that child.
I came closer, while trying to hold back the feeling of discomfort.
'Do you want to hold her?' Harry asked.
I shook my head, taking a few steps back. 'No, no. It's fine. You hold it.' I mumbled, pretending like the cave was very interesting.
I suddenly caught the glimpse of something white. I walked towards it and saw it was a note.

Whoever you are, get out of there and please take good care of my child. Her name is Rose. Please take care of her. And please leave as quickly as possible. Me and my team have been kidnapped by rebellions. I will pray for my life and for that of my child. Please understand I had to leave her.

A desperate mother.

I saw dried teardrops on the piece of paper and blinked a few times to prevent my own teardrops to join them.

I know I know, stupid cliffhangers. But this time there's a good reason; I'm leaving for a concert in half an hour and I need to stop ;)
