THE DEATH OF ME

Trophies and dresses

When Perrie and I arrive at Kings Langley's racing field it's already full of people. Zayn is waiting for us at the entrance to escort us to our seats. I am wearing my black jeans that are ripped at the knees and a black shirt. My hair is down, and the blonde glitters on the black fabric. Perrie is also in black, and so is Zayn. If I hadn't already known him, I would have thought we all dressed in black to support Harry.

My new leather jacket that Harry got me is tucked under my arms, too self conscience to put it on.
Perrie held on to my hand as we picked our way through the people. Eleanor and Louis were already at our seats, and when she notices us she waves, a huge smile on her lips.

"I thought you won't make it on time," Louis says when we reach them.

"There was traffic coming, I don't understand why though since it is only Kings Langley," Perrie shrugs.

"So how the hell did you get Harry to take you to a high school dance?" Louis turns to me.

"I didn't he is making me go," I explain.

"What? Styles? Making you go? I'm talking about your boyfriend- he has girly hair and a thing for fast cars," Louis crinkles his forehead in confusion.

"Long story darling," Eleanor tells him, wrapping her arms around his torso.

"So Cassie, I was thinking, we should go into London, to Oxford, what do you think?" Eleanor turns to me.

"Well don't we have the same shops in Watford? why go all the way into London?" I furrow my brows. I thought this dress shopping thing will go fast, not wanting to travel into London for this uncalled for dance.

"Oh Cass! It'll be fun- Oxford street is so much classier then the mall, and it'll be a girls evening out," Perrie chips in.

I know they already decided so there is no point in fighting them on this. I nod and turn to face the race, waiting for Harry to come.

"I promise it'll be fun! Don’t worry," Eleanor whispers into my ear.

The racers are called out to their cars, the crowd exploding at the sound of their idols names called. Once again Harry's name is called last, and when he steps out my ears ring. This time when he walks out to the tracks his head is held up scanning the seats. When his eyes find me, he smiles, holding his helmet in his right hand as he jogs over, climbing the stools until he reaches the railings. The crowd is calling out his name, and the man behind the speaker calling him to return to the track.

"What are you doing Harry?" I exclaim, though a smile is plastered on my lips, feeling special, his eyes are only for me.

"I can't race without a good luck kiss from you," His dimples are deep into his cheeks, and I lean in, my palm reaching for his cheek, as the hand holding the helmet wraps around my neck. His breath is minty and the taste is left in my mouth when our kiss ends, and Harry jumps back down to the ground, waving to the guy holding the mic in an apology.

I feel my cheeks redden as I notice the eyes on me.
I'm thankful for my friends closing in around me as if shielding me from the watchful stares.

"Not used to him showing so much affection to someone other than himself," Louis jokes and I am grateful for him trying to make me feel less embarrassed.

The race begins and it is hard to follow what is going on. Sitting in the front means tall people don't block my view but then I am not high enough to see what is going on the far side of the tracks.

Luckily there is a man with a mic telling us what is going on. Harry is in first place, not to sound full of it, but I didn't expect to find him in any other place but the first. He lives for the fast drive, for the rush it gives him, and I know very well he won't let anyone pass him. This race is different from the others. It is a few rounds, and some of the people change. By the third time they go Ben is one of the new contestants, and when he walks past us his eyes find mine and he winks, a wide smirk on his face. I look for Harry wondering if he'd seen it. I don't need to wonder long, since when Ben passes him, Harry pushes him forward, making Ben stumble a few steps. Ben turns and takes a step towards Harry, though it seems he has changed his mind, turning back around and pacing over to his car.

"What was that about?" Perrie asks.

"Old rivals, it's nothing," Zayn answers, but I now it is not nothing.

Ben let it go since he wouldn't take a chance to be forced to forfeit from this race. He has something to prove, and if he won't race here, he won't race at the drifting race later on. Harry explained once how it works. You need to be one of the top racers to be called to drift race, which means you want to keep your place in this race no matter what, and after the bet Harry and Ben made, he can't afford to lose.

The first round for this race starts and we are up on our feet cheering for Harry. It seems that the crowd this round is made up from Harry fans and Ben fans, as if the other racers aren't important enough.

"NO-no no! Ben is ahead," Eleanor calls. But I know he won't be for long, not if it's up to Harry. As I predict, right before the end of the line Harry passes Ben in just a slight second, crowning him yet another race winner.

This time, when Harry emerges from his car, his arms are raised up and the crowd explodes. Instead of going to the trophy stand where he would be crowned once again a winner, he turns to where we are placed, and climbs for the second time today, reaching up to where we're sat, he jumps over the railing after pulling himself up, pulling my face to him with a wide smile.

"Well done," I congratulate him. Harry deeps his head down to mine, are lips connecting. The crowd disappears, only Harry and I are present, the crowd’s noise and cheers aren’t heard, only Harry’s breathing as we touch, his arms around me and mine around him, our lips claiming each other, and I know this, this is the best I can ask for.

I feel a tap on my shoulder, and someone tugs on my sleeve. The noise is back and the magic is gone. Someone brought the trophy to Harry, since he hasn’t gone to get it himself. While one arm is wrapped around my waist, the other holds it up in victory, and I note the glint of happiness and pure joy in Harry’s eyes, something you don’t always get to see, so I cherish this moment, knowing to catalogue it in my memory as my most precious moments in time.
We make are way together into the building, Louis and Zayn bumping fists with Harry and making jokes about Ben’s losing face.

“How long will it take you girls to shop? We should go out after,” Harry offers excitedly.

“No can do dimples, we are leaving to Oxford street, meaning we’ll be back late,” Eleanor lets him know.

“Well that is no fun,” Harry makes a sad face. I reach up onto my tiptoes and kiss his lips, though I don’t quite make it, getting more of his chin, him being so much taller than me.

“What about tomorrow?” I ask him.

“Tomorrow it is, have fun, and make sure to get the most incredible dress ever,” Harry asks of our friends.

“She’ll be the most beautiful girl in that school,” Perrie assures him.

“She is the most beautiful girl in the school, now you just have to find the dress to match it,” He winks.

As we look for parking I start getting excited. I barely ever go into London, never having anything to do there or with whom to go. I think the last time I was here, was when Nan's sister decided she is coming to visit, but wasn't agreeing to come all the way, making us meet her in the middle at this restaurant somewhere.

"I just love it here, I mean, you need to come in once a month to get a dose of vacation," Perrie beams.

"We aren't on vacation.. We came to shop," I remind her.

“Oh Cassie.. Gosh.. There is so much you need to learn- shopping is a kind of vacation, come on,” Eleanor pulls me after her, a little skip in her stride.

We’ve been through so many shops, and I was ready to call it a day, Perrie already noticed I was ready to leave, however Eleanor wouldn’t have it. She pushed us into one last shop promising me I’ll find a dress here.

As we enter the shop I find a chair and sit myself down.

“What are you doing?” Eleanor frowns at me.

“I’m tired, I have to sit,” I explain, letting my head roll back.

“Come on El, we’ll look around and show her what we like,” Perrie offers.
They both start looking through the store while I checked my phone. I had a message from Harry telling me he hopes I’m having fun. I smile and put my phone away, just as Eleanor and Perrie came up to me holding a few dresses.

Once again we went through the motion of checking out what they’ve had chosen, and as I was ready to give up forever, Eleanor held up the last dress.

It was short, a light pink colour and elegant. It was made out of this chiffon fabric.

“I have a feeling this might be it,” Perrie smiles, clapping her hands together.

“Come on love, get up, get undressed and try it on,” Eleanor demands.
I rise and take the dress out of her hands and try it on.

“It is perfect,” Perrie breathes.

“It is, though you cannot wear those shoes,” She pulls a face at my Dr. Martens.

“I have these perfect high heels at home for you,” Perrie offers.

“NO! Not happening! I don’t do heels,” I refuse.

“But why? It would be incredible, you must try,” Perrie tries.

“What is this?”

The three of us turn to the voice behind us.

“What are you doing here?” Eleanor pulls a face at Ben.

“I couldn’t help but notice you coming in here,” He wears a wicked smile on his face.

“Go away,” I say turning back to go change back into my clothes.

“Cassie, who would have guessed there was a body under those clothes you wear,” Ben mocks me.

“What would you know? The only thing you ever see is the dirt flying in your eyes from the back of Harry’s wheels,” Perrie snaps.

“Watch it Blondie,” Ben’s eyes close to slits, making it known she has pocked a sore spot.

“Just go,” I ask of him.

“The bet was made but it hasn’t come to an overbalance yet,” And with that he turns and walks out of the shop.

“What bet?” Eleanor furrows her brows.

“The drifting bet,” Is my answer, and I see the understanding taking over her features.

I knew about this bet for a while now, but I think that only now it has downed on me how serious this bet really is and what it means. And for the first time I am fearful for Harry’s well being, picking up on how far Ben is willing to go to provoke Harry and making him lose this bet.
