THE DEATH OF ME

The Gig

Harry's POV

I park the car, and turn off the engine. I watch Cassie in her seat, pouting.
I had to wait 10 minutes for her after school until she decided to show, and adding that to what happened earlier with the beanie just pissed me off, making me snap at her, which sent us into a huge fight. If she could only keep quiet like the other girls it wouldn't have become such a big deal, but obviously Cassie isn't like other girls. She speaks her mind, and talks back which infuriates me, but at the same time makes me like her even more.
So now we are outside the club I chose to take her for our date, though she refuses to speak to me.

"Cassie, I said I was sorry for snapping, can you please stop pouting?" I am whining, but I can't help it.
"Look, I planned for us to have a nice evening, so please don't fuck it up with a pissy mood,"

"You only said you are sorry to shut me up! But you're not sorry! Not really," She finally says. She isn't yelling at me. She is calm, her voice dry, and I feel like a dick, because she is right.

"What do you want to do? Do you want me to take you back home?" I try my best to keep my voice calm as hers, not wanting to start shouting again.

"To Nan's house?" She sits up a little straighter.

"No, not if she's not back yet, I meant back to my place," I correct myself.

"Well I changed and we are here already so we might as well just stay," She sighs. I hold in the curse that was about to slip out and open the door.

I really did want this evening to go well. I have this feeling that she doesn't really trust me, and I want to make sure she will.

I wait for her on the sidewalk and guide her into the club, my hand on the small of her back so people won't have the wrong idea. She is with me, which means she is off limits.
I am quite proud of her choice of clothes today too. She is wearing these red pants paired with a black top and a vest, her hair is down and she looks perfect.

I never intended to get to know her. I only went to that fucking coffee shop to make sure she was all right, but her having no clue who I was and the way she answered back just left me wanting more, and here I am a few weeks later, taking her out on our first date, and she refuses to speak to me.

When we enter I can feel the people staring, and I know she can too, her hands jumping to the tips of her hair, showing the world how nervous she is. She has to learn to contain her emotions, and stop wearing them on her sleeve.

I move my hand from her back and gently tug her fingers from her hair, folding them in my palm. She doesn't pull away, which makes me glad. I find us a table to site at. It's on the side away from the crowd's watchful eyes.

I order her a coke and myself a beer, as the person performing on the little stage changes.
I watch Cassie carefully, her blue eyes glued to the ginger playing his guitar. I knew he was back in town playing here, he told me a while back, so once I decided I'm ignoring Zayn and going for Cassie, I planned on bringing her here. He opens with the song I played in the car for Cassie and I watch her face change, her eyes- the anger leaving them, replaced with a beautiful sparkle, and I know it was worth it, ignoring Zayn's warning, that look of admiration is priceless and I promise to try harder with her, just so I can see her eyes light up like this over and over again.

"This is the guy from your car right?" Cassie turns to me, remembering the song playing.
I nod, trying to keep the smirk off my face.
"Did you know he'll be here today?" She questions, forgetting her frustration with me.

"Yeah I did," I nod again. I knew she would like him too. I checked her phone. I wanted to see who she talks to, and what she listens to.

Other then Liam and her Nan she doesn't speak to anyone, except a few calls and texts from Perrie and now me. And she likes this kind of music, the quiet and smart lyrics.
"You planned this?" She is puzzled.
I sling an arm across her shoulders pulling her close to me, as we listened to my best friend play.

I feel her ease into me, resting her head on my shoulder, and I can't help but smile. She is letting her guard down, which is what I hoped for.

Watching Cassie stare at Ed is mesmerizing. She truly is loving his music. He's been trying for years to get notice, and he finally got a little break through, leaving for America a few months ago.

He called me a few days ago letting me know he is back for a while, asking to crash by me for old time's sake.

Damn I missed him. He was one of the few people who really got me, keeping me out of trouble and kicking my ass when it had to be done.

I lean my cheek down on the top of her head. I have never done this before with any girl. I'd never show them affection out in public. If they were all over me it was fine, never pushing them away, but never pulling them on me myself. Something about Cassie made me want to. I don't know what it is about her, maybe since she isn't used to it.
Ed catches my eye, and his brows rise slightly. He noticed Cassie and I. Good. It means that others have as well.

"When did he start?"
I look up to see Louis and El take a seat at our table, Eleanor shrugging her jacket off.
Cassie straightens up fast, leaning her elbows on the table. I am sure her face is all red, but I can't tell because of the lighting in this place.

"Hi Cass! You look amazing!" Eleanor walks around to hug Cassie, which hugs her back stiffly, not used to such gestures.

"Umm, Lou.. What are you two doing here?" I demand, annoyed by them crashing our date. This was supposed to be only Cassie and me, not a full house!

"Same as you! We came to hear Ed play, god I've missed that twit- Is Zayn here yet? He said he's bringing his new girl," Louis orders the waitress over to our table.

"Zayn is coming too? Cassie, do you want to head someplace else?" I turn to her, afraid she'll think I asked them to show.

"No this is fun, I want to stay," She says cheerfully. I wonder if it has anything to do with Eleanor coming but I sit back in my chair giving in, after all I am up for anything she wants as long as she isn't angry with me anymore.

"There he is!" Louis waves. I turn to see Zayn walk in with- The girl who used to work with Cassie at the fucking coffee place. What was her name? Patsy? Penny? Who cares?
I take a swig of my beer, laying my hand on Cassie's thigh under the table, making her jump slightly, but she doesn't push my hand away so I leave it there.

"Cassie? Fancy seeing you here!" Penny gushes, leaning over and hugging Cassie's neck.
"How do you two know each other?" Louis wants to know, though Cassie seems slightly overwhelmed by everyone. I squeeze her thigh slightly, which makes her glance at me.
"Are you all right?" I mouth her, and she nods.

"All right there Harry?" Penny asks me.
"Good, and you? I had no clue you are Zayn's new girl," I wink.
"If you call two months new," She rolls her eyes and swats my shoulder playfully before sitting down on the chair Zayn got her.

"What's your name? Since Zayn is doing poorly in introducing you," Eleanor asks.
"I'm Perrie," She smiles. That's it- Perrie was her name.

"I'm Eleanor, and this is Louis my boyfriend," She gestures to him.

"Louis, who's looking after the shack?" Zayn questions, picking up my beer and sipping.
"I left Demi and Niall in charge," He puts his arm around Eleanor.
"Niall? Really?" Zayn raises his brows.
"Why not?" I challenge him.

"He's quite good, I trust him, and Demi is there too, if they'll have any problems they will call," Louis shrugs. All this time Cassie's eyes jump from one another, trying to follow the conversation.

"So how do you two know each other?" Eleanor points from Cassie to Perrie.
"We worked at the same coffee shop," Perrie answers before Cassie gets a chance to open her mouth, though I have a feeling she is happy not to need to, not used to being the center of attention.

Eleanor and Perrie chat, trying to get Cassie to take part in their conversation, while Louis and Zayn were talking about the shack. I listen to their talk, going back to the girl's conversation anytime I hear Cassie speak up.

"So I want to sign up for a gym or something, though I'm not sure which one," Perrie says.
"Oh you should come to Jump- it's incredible, and they have Zumba and Pilates it's so much fun!" Eleanor gushes.

"Really? Where is it? That sounds like fun!" Perrie replies in excitement.
"It's over on first street, next to the mall, Cassie you should come too! It could be a girl's thing," She winks.

I turn to look at Cassie and see what her comment to that is. She is smiling nodding at Eleanor. She agreed. I am not sure what I think about that. I want Cassie all to myself. I already need to share her with school and the shack, and once her Nan is back, then with her too. So I'm not sure how I feel about her spending some time with these girls when she can be with me. But on the other hand, she needs friends, other than Liam. She needs a wider support system. She needs to feel what a normal teenage life is, one with friends and going out and doing things. Also drifting is coming back which means I won't be as around with that and the racing season, So I bit my tongue before I say something to keep Cassie from joining them.

Ed is done with his set, and after everyone claps for him, he makes his way over to our table, a chair ready for him.
"There he is! That was brilliant mate!" Louis congratulates him.
Ed leans to kiss Eleanor's cheek and then pets me on my shoulder.

"And who might you be?" He asks his arm across my shoulder.
"This my friend, is my Cassie," I answer quietly, only him and Cassie can hear my answer. I can tell Zayn is still against me dating Cass, but I know Louis is all up for it now that Eleanor likes her, and I know Ed will love her so I don't give shit about Zayn and his thoughts.

"It's nice meeting you," Ed shakes her hand, and Cassie offers him a smile.

She's been smiling more then when I have first met her and it has to do with me and my friends. It has to be, right? Which means I am doing something right here. This might turn out just perfect. I take my hand off Cassie's thigh placing it on her hand which is rested on the table. She peeks at me and I wink. I notice Perrie and Eleanor eyeing our hands and the proud smile on Perrie's face.

My eyes move back to Ed and he smirks at me. I know once we get back to my flat and Cassie is sleeping he will ask all his questions, and listen to all I have to say, giving me his opinion, and straightening out my thoughts. I'm glad he is back. I need him. As I said I have Cassie now and drifting is starting, So I need Ed, I need him to make sure I keep my head on straight, I need him to keep me from messing this up. With Ed here I can guaranty that this time it will go smoothly.
