Forever Young

“Alex, would you come up here, please?”

I ignored the loud calls of my mother and stayed in my bedroom, blowing smoke out of the window that faced the basement window of the neighboring house. My room gave me more privacy which was the only good thing about being up and moved to suburbia.

My mother, who in my eyes was the devil, got a job offer in Seattle, and moved us to a gated community filled with snobby rich people. Cassie would never admit it, but I knew that the only reason my mom would pull such a stunt was because of the divorce from my father, who left her for some much younger secretary to travel the world. Mom had an emotional break down, forcing Cassie and I to parent ourselves while she got drunk off wine and slept all day. She then went and sold the house without uttering a word to anybody, quit her job, somehow found an even better one and managed to find a fully furnished house in a great neighborhood. She then forgave my father for everything and said it was time to move on with her life; my mother was a crazy unstable lunatic.

My bedroom door opened, sending a wave of fear through me as I set my pipe outside of the window on the grass and blew the smoke out of my mouth, trying to get it all out, but failing miserably. Cassie walked in, rolling her eyes at me, “It’s so gross that you do that stuff.”

“What do you want?” I snapped, grabbing my pipe from outside and bringing it into my room. I walked over to my desk that say nestled in the corner and opened the drawer tossing it in there and quickly shutting it as I looked up at my sister with an annoyed look.

“Mom wants to talk to you,” She walked past me and went to my dresser, grabbing a bottle of perfume and sprayed it on herself. She held it out to me with a concerned look, “You stink.”

I sprayed myself and walked the bottle back to my dresser, setting it down as my mother’s voice bellowed even louder this time, “Alexis Black, will you get up here please!”

“Let’s go,” Cassie urged.

I followed behind her, closing my bedroom door behind me as Cassie led the way towards the stairs, turning the corner and running up them with me on her tail; we sounded like a heard of elephants. The door leading out of the basement was already open, Cassie and I stepped out into the hallway and turned to the left, knowing that our mom would be in the kitchen. My mother, especially when I was this high, can be a scary woman; she was standing by the coffee maker, tapping her fingers on the granite counter top as she impatiently waited.

She turned to us as she heard us approaching, “Alexis, I am sick and tired of your attitude.”

I rolled my eyes, staying quiet as she continued the lecture, “We have been here for two weeks and you haven’t even left the house or tried to make any friends.”

A small smile formed on her lips as the coffee maker began to spit out her coffee into the mug, “Cassandra has become great friends with Jack’s son and many of his friends. Jack is my boss, we need to be on our best behavior and forcing me to lie to him several times on why he has not met my other daughter is not okay.”

“Why the hell did you even by a house right next door to your boss? Don’t you see how weird that is?”

My mother sipped her coffee and pursed her lips, “Alexis, this house, that we were blessed to get at such a great price is in the best neighborhood in this whole goddamn state. So shut your mouth and be grateful!”

I caught Cassie snickering beside me and frowned as my mom continued, “Cassie and Oliver are going to go spend the day at the mall and you are going with them.”

“Mom, I don’t want to bring her along when she’s acting like a bitch,” Cassie protested, getting a stern look from my mother.

“You’re the bitch,” I snapped back at my sister.

“Both of you stop,” My mom sighed, “I’ll give you my credit card, spend as much money as you want, but I just need you to get out of this house.”

She set her coffee cup down on the counter and walked past us to the dining room that was connected to the kitchen by a large archway, she grabbed her purse off of the table and dug in it for her wallet. I smirked, a shopping trip did always cheer me up and she did say I could spend as much as I wanted. My mom walked back and handed me her credit card, I wanted to tell her that I already had my fathers American Express black card that allowed me to do whatever I wanted, but I kept that to myself and added her card to my arsenal, “Fine,” I muttered.

I turned around, walking out of the kitchen and down the hall towards the living room as my mother called out, “Buy something nice, we’re doing dinner at the neighbors.”

“Oliver has a car and I get the front seat,” Cassie warned as I opened the front door and stepped out into the sunshine.

I laughed, “Okay, you can have the front seat.”

“He’s really cute,” She gushed.

We walked down the driveway and came to a stop, I ignored Cassie as she walked off towards the neighbor’s and pulled my cellphone out, tapping on my dad’s phone number and holding the phone up to my ear. He answered on the third ring, “Hey, sweetheart, how’s it going?”

“Dad, mom is being such a bitch,” I whined as he chuckled on the other end, “she moved us out here, away from everything into houses that are inches away from each other!”

“Sweetie, your mother found you guys a great neighborhood and an even greater house, cut her some slack”

I rolled my eyes, I hated when he took her side, “But daddy, I don’t even have a car out here, and all it does it rain. How am I supposed to get around?”

My father sighed at the other end of the phone, “I’m in France right now on business, can’t we talk about this later?”

“Dad!” I raised my voice slightly, “What am I supposed to do with myself? I need a way to escape mom’s clutches.”

He laughed, “All right, all right, you can go down to the dealership and get yourself something; don’t get too crazy on me.”

I grinned as the feeling of joy filled me up for the first time in weeks, “I love you, daddy!”

“Love you too, princess.”

I hung the phone up and slipped it into the back pocket of my shorts as I walked down towards the neighbor’s driveway where Cassie was standing. She was talking to a boy who was very attractive, the first thing I noticed was his incredibly blonde hair and piercing green eyes. I walked over to the with a grin, “Hi.”

“This is my sister Alex,” Cassie said with a forced smile.

“I’m Oliver,” He grinned. I stepped towards him and wrapped my arms around him for a quick hug.

I pulled back with a smile of my own, “Uh, I just talked to dad and he said I can go get a new car, so we should go to the Audi dealership.”

“What?”

I smirked at the shocked look on my sister’s face, “Mom may love you more, but I will always be dad’s favorite.”

Oliver chuckled as he walked towards his lifted jeep and held the door open, “Screw the mall let’s go find you a car!”

I sped down the road of our neighborhood going 50MPH, I was well over late for dinner at the neighbors and my mother would surely be pissed; I didn’t really care though because I had a brand new car. I screeched on the breaks as I turned into the driveway of our house, revving the engine loudly of my brand new Audi R8, making sure to be extra obnoxious to irk my mother. Oliver and Cassie had come with me to the dealership, but had quickly left when they found out it was going to take them a few hours to track down the exact car I wanted with all the features I wanted and get it to me. To me, it was well worth the wait, my new car was white with black rims and had a twin turbo, the seats were black leather and the convertible top looked barely there when up. I had the top down, not bothering to put it up because that was the whole point of the car.

My mother rushed out of the neighbors house with a glass of wine in her hand and stomped towards me with a fire in her eyes. I got out of the car, walking towards her with a small victorious smile, “Daddy bought me a car.”

My mother’s eyes widened as she approached the car, walking around it frantically. She let out a breath as she turned her gaze to me, “Your father bought you a one hundred and fifty-thousand dollar car? I am going to murder the son of a bitch.”

I smirked, “Mom, it was a little closer to two hundred... I got the upgrades, but dad said I needed a way to get around and you know how he only likes the best.”

My mom was about to open her mouth as a beautiful blonde woman approached, “Is everything all right out here, Veronica?”

My mom sighed as turned, “Amelia, this is my oldest daughter, Alexis, her father just bought her a very unsafe, very expensive car and I don’t know how to handle it.”

The woman laughed as she walked over to me and gave me a small hug, “It’s so nice to finally meet you, you are so beautiful, just like your sister.”

I tried not to cringe as she turned to my mom, “Veronica, they are kids, they want everything and if only I had a say in half the outlandish things my husband bought for my boys, but sometimes we need to accept that we don’t and men will be men; they love their toys.”

I couldn’t hide my grin, this lady was the best. My mother set her frustration aside with a huff as Amelia began walking back towards her house, “Now let’s get us some more wine and some food for Alexis.”

I followed behind them, the walk to the house was extremely short. We walked in, the layout of the house was the same as ours, the decor was just different. Everything was very elegant and royal, our house had more of a modern feel to it, but the similarities were evident. I walked into the dining room where Oliver and Cassie sat, along with two faces I did not recognize, “I’ll go get you a plate, dear,” Amelia said and took off towards the kitchen.

My mother walked me towards the end of the table with a smile, “Jack, this is my daughter that I have been telling you about,” Her smile was glowing as the man grinned and stood up, putting his hand out to shake. I took his hand in my own as my mother kept talking, “Alexis, this is my boss, Mr. Jack Styles.”

“So lovely to finally meet you, Alexis, I’m glad you were able to join us,” His smile was so perfect it looked like it was painted on; this was one beautiful family.

“Again, I’m so sorry about her being late, my ex-husband went off and bought her a two hundred thousand dollar convertible without saying a word so she was off in her own fantasy land,” My mom spoke with all the charm and grace in the world but I knew deep down she wanted to kill me and my father.

Jack laughed, “Harry over here also is a big spender, sometimes I can’t get him to stop.”

The kid with the brown messy hair to his left stood up, clearing his throat, “Hi, I’m Harry,” he grinned at me, “Ignore my dad, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

His piercing green eyes burned into mine as I felt myself get lost. Where the hell had this kid been all my life? The smile still played on his lips as he walked towards me, “So this new car of yours...”

I smirked as reached for my bulky key out of the pocket of my denim shorts, “Son, let her eat first.”

“Oh, that’s fine, I’m not really all that hungry, thank you though” I kept my eyes on Harry’s as I spoke.

“Let’s go see that ride,” He said and began walking.

I followed behind him, giving him a small smile as he held the front door open for me. We walked the short distance to my driveway as Harry let out a whistle, “Damn, it’s beautiful.”

I grinned, “Why, thank you.”

I turned to him, looking up with a smile, “What do you drive?”

He smirked, “A G-Wagon, it’s the matte black one over there,” He said as he pointed. “I’m assuming this thing is turbo charged? We need to race one day.”

I laughed, “I’ll murder you.”

Harry grinned, “Let’s take this thing for a ride.”

“What about our parents?”

“So,” Harry shrugged his shoulders, “they’ve drank like three bottles of wine they’re cool.”

“Well, Mr. Styles, would you like to be my chauffeur for the day?” I asked as I dangled the keys in front of him.

“Yes please,” He snatched them from my hand and hopped into the car, I walked towards the passenger side and got in. “So, how come I’ve never seen you before?”

I laughed as the car engine started up, Harry backed out of the driveway and took off down the street, leading out towards the gates that separated us from the rest of the world. I rifled through the radio as I spoke, “I’ve been holing away at home and haven’t really come out.”

Harry chuckled, using his blinker to get onto a main road, he pressed on the gas, easily sending the car up to 60MPH, “I just got home three days ago from school for spring break. I only have two weeks before I have to go back,” He said as he merged onto the freeway.

I pulled my hat down on my head and giggled at the sight of Harry’s hair blowing erratically, “You can be my form of entertainment until I have to go back.”

“I would love to be your entertainment,” I said playful as Harry sped up.

We were the only ones on the freeway which was making him feel gutsy as he passed the 120 mark on the speedometer. He hit kept accelerating as he smirked at me, “Your car is fucking sick. I truly am jealous.”

The flash of red and blue lights zooming towards us from behind had us both muttering a curse word. Harry hit the brakes, slowing down sufficiently. He pulled off to the right side of the road, running a hand through his hair as he looked at me, “Your mom is going to kill me.”

The officer approached with a huge frown, “License and registration.”

Harry fished for his license out of his pocket as I searched for the paperwork I was given, “I just bought the car today Officer, It’s mine. We were just going for a joy ride,” I tried to be as charming as I could be in order to get let off with a warning.

“Young lady there is no reason for anybody to be driving at such dangerous speeds, you could’ve both been seriously injured,” The cop said as he took Harry’s license and walked back to his cruiser.

“Do you want to light up a J,” Harry turned to me causing my mouth to drop.

“Harry, don’t talk about that kind of stuff right now!”

Harry laughed, “Chill, I just mean for after.”

I nodded my head as I took a deep breath, trying to get my heartbeat to slow down. The cop walked back over, handing Harry his license as well as a ticket, “Now, this ticket is going to be very, very expensive. I’m sure you won’t have too much trouble with paying the fine, but the mandatory traffic school should be a lot of fun for you,” His eyes landed on me, “Make sure he slows down.”

“Yes sir,” I said as we watch the cop walk off. Harry held the ticket in his hand, “Our parents are going to kill us,” I looked up at him.

Harry grinned, “Don’t worry, doll, they won’t have to know. I’ll take care of it.”

I leaned my head back against the headrest and grinned, closing my eyes as I let the warm feeling inside me spread; Harry Styles was my dream come true and I had him all to myself for the next two weeks.
