One Way or Another

fifty-one.

"First night in the new house," I tell Sophie, sliding Sophie coat over her arms. "Are you excited, princess?"

"New house, new house," she sings, rocking back and forth. Harry laughs and carries Miloh over in his car seat, Anne watching us closely while we all bundle up. This is hard for her, I can see it in her eyes.

We spent the last two weeks having all our stuff shipped here from New York, picking out new furniture, and unpacking as much as possible. The bedrooms were the main priority, and today we completed all of them by bringing over Sophie's bed and Miloh's crib. We got all new stuff for our bedroom and a lot of other furniture; everything we need is in the house, but the main floor is still covered in boxes and there's still a lot we have to do. Anne and Gemma and Brad and even Jackson all helped us with everything we need to be there comfortably while we finish getting settled in.

I don't think any of us expected to be out of Anne's house so quickly after we found our house, especially Anne. She's been so good to us and I know how much she loves spending time with Sophie and Miloh. This is going to be a big adjustment for her. For all of us, but I know it'll be hardest for her.

"Okay, say goodnight to Nana," I tell her. She turns and runs to Anne, who's already got tears in her eyes. Sophie isn't sad at all and that helps, and when Anne puts her down again Sophie runs to the door.

"I'm going to put them in the car, I'll be right back," Harry says. I nod and he shuffles out the door with Miloh's seat in one hand and Sophie's hand in his other.

"She's an incredible little girl," Anne says, pulling my attention back.

"Anne, I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us." I step forward and hug her tightly. "You're a God-send. Thank you so much."

"That's what I'm here for," she says. "If I could keep you kids here forever I would. But I'm glad you found a place to raise your family. You all deserve it."

"Thank you," I tell her, looking at her again. "Not just for this, but...for raising Harry the way you did. He's such an incredible person and an amazing father and I can't begin to explain how grateful I am for that."

"I am too," she says. "It's a miracle after the way he spent his childhood, but I'm so proud of him. Of both of you."

"What's with all the tears!" Harry rolls his eyes at us. "We're moving basically down the street. You two didn't cry this much when we were living in New York."

"Don't be an ass, Harry."

He laughs and hugs his mother, mumbling a few things to her I can't quite hear. Robin appears from around the corner and Harry shakes his hand firmly.

"Take care of her," Harry says, "Or I'll have to kill you."

"Harry!" Anne and I both shout in unison. Robin just laughs and Harry sort of smiles...I don't really know if that was a joke or not. Probably not, but I'm going to go with it was a joke.

After a few more tears we manage to slip out the door. Sophie is singing to Miloh when we get in and Harry looks at her before smiling at me. I love my life. Miloh's big blue eyes roam around the car, but he mostly stares out the window while we drive. To be honest, Sophie and Miloh hardly even look like siblings. That could easily change as he gets older, though; Mason and I looked identical growing up and then at six or seven we went in opposite directions.

"Home sweet home," Harry sighs as we pull into the driveway.

It's convenient now that we have two kids since we can each take one; I can't imagine what having three would be like to handle. But for now it works; Harry gets Miloh's car seat out and I unbuckle Sophie before we all head inside. When we step through the door I feel like I can finally breathe; our own house. For once I feel like we're okay and there doesn't seem to be anything that could tear us apart this time. But thinking that way seems to always bite me in the ass.

"This would be so much more fun with a few more kids running around," Harry says, setting Miles on the island. He pulls me forward by my waist while I shake my head.

"Don't start." He's been talking like this ever since we got this four-bedroom house.

"What?"

"Wipe that cute little smile off your face," I laugh, resting my hands on his chest. "We're not having another baby."

"You mean now."

"I mean at all. It's going to take a lot of convincing after seeing how much work it is to have two."

"But think about how cute they'd be."

"They?" I repeat in a high pitch. "As in more than one addition?"

"Think about it." He gives me a kiss and Sophie runs over to us before I can argue again, tugging at Harry's pant leg. "What's up, Soph?"

"Can't find my train," she says.

"It's still in a box somewhere," he says. "We'll find it tomorrow, okay?"

"Me want to play now," she whines.

"It's almost bedtime. We'll get it tomorrow, alright?"

"No!" She stomps her foot and I have to bite the inside of my cheek so I don't laugh. Most parents may be annoyed or embarrassed by temper tantrums, but it honestly makes me laugh. She thinks it's going to get her what she wants and it's ridiculous.

"Do you want to go to bed?"

"No, Daddy!" She stomps her foot again and puts her little hands on her hips. "Play now!"

"Tomorrow!" Harry bites back, imitating her behaviour. He makes a funny face at her and she giggles, trying to keep her smile to a minimum.

"Daddy," she giggles. He laughs and bends down to pick her up. "You look funny."

"So do you." He pokes her belly and then lifts her so she's half hanging over his shoulder. "Say sorry!"

He spins her around and plays with her for a while, running around my new floors while I take Miloh out of his seat. He probably needs to be fed again before he'll go to sleep but for now he's wide awake, his eyes drawn away from me whenever he hears his father's loud voice. This feels normal. Right now it feels like all the shit we've been through can fade into the past and my family can finally get a start on a normal life.

"Get him, Soph." I laugh when Harry falls on the ground and lets Sophie sit on him and attempt to tickle him with her little fingers. When I sit on the couch on the other side of them he goes limp in defeat and Sophie dances around his head. That is, until Harry grabs her and lifts her over his head.

"Great, now she's hyper," I mutter, shaking my head at Harry. He laughs and sets her on the floor. She pulls her toys right next to him and I hold Miles so he's standing with my help. He's taken up a very baby-like hobby of sticking his fists in his mouth.

"Hand him over," Harry says, holding his arms out from his spot on the floor. When I shake my head he groans. "Baby, you've had him all day!"

"You were gone! That's not my fault."

"Please, babe." He pouts at me and wiggles his fingers. It's so damn annoying that he's so cute. I can't say not to him. He laughs triumphantly and lays back down on the floor, holding Miloh right over his face. Miloh laughs for like two minutes straight and the smile on Harry's face is wider and brighter than it ever could be. Mind you, I think I say that every time he smiles. Oh well.

Watching Harry interact with either of our kids makes my heart want to explode, but then when he's with both of them I'm a puddle. Sophie lays next to her father and looks up at Miloh with the same silly faces. I can't even begin to explain how much I love my family.

"Savannah, come-" He stops and holds Miles to the side so he can look at me. "Are you crying?"

"No." I wipe both my cheeks to check and sure enough, there's tears.

"What's wrong?" Harry asks.

"Nothing, I'm fine."

"Sap," Harry mutters. He winks at me and I roll my eyes at him, lightly kicking his ankle as I walk by.

"I'm going to make sure Sophie's bed is ready."

When both of the kids' rooms are ready to go I head back downstairs to round up Sophie. She won't go without Harry, though, and all four of us end up upstairs together. Sophie puts up a bit of a fight before she gets in her pajamas and crawls into bed, but when Harry agrees to read her a story she finally quiets down. Miloh starts getting fussy so I kiss Soph goodnight and go to his room to feed him one more time. By the time Harry gets out of Sophie's room he's full and burped with his cute little pajamas on. I can't seem to put him in his crib though. He's too cute not to cuddle with.

"Babe, you can't hold him all night," Harry says. He walks over to where I'm standing and runs his finger over Miloh's chubby cheek.

"I want to hold him forever," I murmur, cooing at him. He smiles at me and Harry laughs quietly.

"But it's our first night in our new house. And our new bed."

"And..."

"And we have to christen the new mattress," he says simply. When I look at him he's smirking that smug little smirk of his. He takes Miles out of my hands and holds him close enough for me to kiss him goodnight, then I'm left a little sad and already missing him when he's placed in his crib. When Harry sees the sad expression on my face he lifts me up, his arms around my legs just under my ass so he can carry me down the hall.

"Welcome home," he says quietly. I laugh and wrap my arms around his neck.

"This feels pretty good, doesn't it?"

"Wow, I haven't even started yet." I roll my eyes and he kicks the door shut.

"Not you, you dork. Being in our house." He drops me on the bed and I let my arms fall above my head, watching as he pulls his shirt over his head. "We're like grown ups now."

"You don't think having a baby made us grown ups?"

I shake my head and Harry crawls over me on his hands and knees. His green eyes are dark and my whole body is aching for him. He wrests back on his ankles and tugs on the front of my shirt to pull me into a sitting position.

"This is how our life is supposed to be," he says, tugging my top over my head. "Putting our kids to bed in our house, playing in the living room, cuddling on the couch."

"Making love in our own bed," I continue, trailing my fingers over his abdomen. When they reach the button of his jeans his mouth covers mine, his hands on either side of my face. This is where my brain turns to mush.

Harry stands up to remove his jeans and I move higher on the bed, flinging the few decorative pillows we have onto the floor. My lip is between my teeth when he reaches for my leggings, which I seem to be wearing more and more. I want to wear tight jeans or skirts or something and make myself look good for Harry, but being up for most of the twenty-four hours that make a day leaves me with little motivation. He doesn't seem to care.

As soon as our skin touches my breath is robbed. My back arches to reduce any possible distance between us and Harry's fingers swiftly unclip the back of my bra. When it's gone his lips trail down the side of my neck, leaving me breathless with my fingers in his hair while he slowly makes a path down the middle of my chest. When my underwear is gone I'm tensing for his lips on me but they're on my mouth instead.

"I can't wait," he mutters. He smiles and I reach down to remove his boxers. "Sorry."

"As if you're apologizing right now."

He lets out a breathy laugh and I wrap my legs around his waist as he slides into me, my heels pressing into the back of his thighs. There was nothing preempting this so it's a little funny that we're both so desperate, but he feels too good for me to complain. His lips are never far from mine and I can't decide where to put my hands because he's too overwhelming. Then he rolls us over and plants his hands firmly on my hips to keep the rhythm he had before. When I sit up he comes with me, my arms around his neck while he helps my movements. If I could make this last I would, but neither of us seem able to do that and shortly after I come undone he follows.

"Consider the sheets christened," he says breathlessly, falling back against the mattress again.

"I love you." I kiss him and he sighs. "I love you and I love our family and I love the life we've made for ourselves."

"If you'd have asked me five years ago where we'd end up, I probably would have never guessed this." He rolls us over again and his thumb traces over my jawline. "After all the shit we've been through a lot of people would walk away, but if it got us here I'm glad it happened. I'm happier and more in love with you than I was back then. I didn't think that was possible."

"You know how to make a girl swoon," I mutter. He laughs and pulls the blankets over so we can lay under them.

"You're so cute," I whisper to Miloh. "Yes, you are. You look just like your Daddy, don't you? Yes-"

A loud knock downstairs startles me out of my cooing. Miloh is held tight against my chest while I hurry down the hall to Harry. He's already coming out of our room, joggers pulled up his legs and no trace of sleep on his face. When the time comes to protect us, nothing gets in Harry's way.

"Stay up here," he says when I try to follow him. "I mean it, stay right there."

"Harry-"

"Savannah, just do it."

"Fine."

He jogs down the stairs and whoever the hell is here pounds on the door again. What a fantastic first night in our house. This would happen to us, I mean seriously.

But a few steps couldn't hurt, right? I step down low enough that I can see Harry and the door under the wall and when he turns around and sees me he just shakes his head. He knows I'm not going to sit upstairs and wait for him by now. He peeks through the window next to the door before he unlocks it.

"What the fuck?" he spits. He looks at me. "It's my father."

"What?" Why is he here? How is he even in England?

Harry opens the door with an angry swing and holds his hand out before Des can come in. Des tries to speak first, but obviously Harry doesn't let that happen.

"What the hell are you doing here?"
