I Still Get Jealous

"O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green ey'd monster, which doth mock The meat feeds on." – Shakespeare, Othello

Lucy's POV

I waited for Harry to come pick me up outside the university gates how a nervous school girl would wait for last period to end. My hands were shaking, and I couldn't stop tapping my foot to the sound of time ticking away. The flowers Connor had given me were still in my possession, but I knew that once Harry figured out they were from him, he'd make me dispose of them. I was still utterly and hopelessly bewildered by what Connor admitted to me before he left; his words galvanized my mind.

'I just wanted to make sure I got the order right.'

If he is the one who gave me the flowers, is he also the person who has been sending me these anonymous texts?

I continued to torture myself with more unanswered questions until I heard a car engine switch off and car door slam shut. When I turned around, I saw none other than Harry Styles coming my way–except he wasn't the Harry I was accustomed to seeing. My Harry always greeted me with a dimpled smile and a quick peck across the cheek, but this time his eyebrows were furrowed, and his pink lips were pressed together in a thin line.

"Where is he?" The green eyed boy asked me through gritted teeth. For a second there, I was taken aback by his demanding tone until I figured out who was the subject of his inquiry.

My shoulders slumped down in a sigh as I shook my head. "I honestly don't know Harry. He could be anywhere on this campus. Why don't we just leave before–"

"–No, we're not going anywhere until I give that little shit a piece of my mind. I know it was Connor who got you those damn roses Lucy because I sure as hell didn't!" Harry spat, his chest heaving up and down to accommodate his large intakes of breath.

I had never seen him this angry before, and it was quite scary to be honest.

"Harry, please calm down. Just let me explain..." I tried to reach for his arm, but he pulled it away from me out of spite. My face paled a little due to his actions, and I could feel my chest begin to tighten. "God, if you would just listen to me, you'd realize that you're wrong about Connor being the one who gave me the bloody roses!" I surprised myself by saying.

"Wh-what?" I heard him mumble in disbelief, as if he couldn't believe my apocryphal statement either. "Who gave them to you then?" Harry looked at me carefully, not missing any emotion that briefly crossed my face.

"Mr. Rivera," I said the first name that came to mind. "It was his way of thanking me for covering the class that day he was out," I lied. "I honestly believed it was you when I sent you that text Harry, but he told me after class that it was from him..."

"God, you have to be fucking kidding me!" The boy cursed, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "Baby, I'm so sorry for snapping at you like that. I was worried, and I–I got jealous that some bloke had given you flowers before I was able to," Harry explained whilst grabbing my hand. "Please, please, please forgive me for my moment of stupidity. I promise you that I'll spend the rest of my day trying to make up for my outburst."

I nodded my head and swallowed the lump beginning to form in my throat. "Let's just get out of here, okay?" I suggested.

"Come on. I've got somewhere special I want to take you anyway." A faint grin appeared over his face as he led me towards his car.

The drive to our unknown destination went by fairly quickly. Kisses were stolen in the midst of the road as we exchanged sweet nothings to each other. I loved how the two of us were able to reconcile after an argument and fall even harder for one another. As we exited the car, I realized that for the first time since the beginning of today, I felt content being here with Harry, and I was grateful that his anger had subsided along with the tension in the air.

"Babe, where are you taking me?" I asked him for the fifth time, but all I received in response was the shake of his head.

"I'm not telling you because it's supposed to be a surprise. Now, close your eyes."

"But Harry–"

"–Don't worry. It's not like I'm going to try and push you down this hill or anything," He teased while giving me a playful shove forward.

I punched his arm after I regained my balance, and Harry chuckled loudly.

"Shut up. That wasn't funny."

"We have got to work on that right hook of yours."

I was about to scoff at his statement and make an epic comeback, but when I shifted my focus to see what was in front of me, the sight robbed my lungs of its fresh air. A black wire full of LEDs illuminated the willow tree in the open field and shined over the satin red blanket sprawled out across the grass. In the center of the sheet was an open picnic basket with a container filled with black cherries and other delicious fruit for the two of us to eat. I closed my eyes and opened them again to make sure I wasn't imagining this, and sure enough Harry was standing by my side and squeezing my hand.

"I know, I know. It's safe to say I outdid myself on this one." My cheeky boyfriend smiled proudly, earning a kiss on the cheek from me.

"Eh, It's not that bad I guess." I gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze before kneeling on the sheet and crawling towards the basket, but a large hand grabbed my ankle and spun me around before I could get much further.

"Are you really going to tell me that a squeeze of the shoulder and a peck over the cheek are all I get?" He questioned while puffing his cheeks. "Those lights didn't hang themselves, ya know. I had to use horsepower to climb that tree."

I teasingly rubbed my nose against his and leaned forward until the only thing separating our lips was a tiny gap. His vibrant green eyes watched me with curiosity as he waited for me to make my next move. I brought my hand up to cup his jaw and stroked his cheekbone with the pad of my thumb.

"Hmm," I hummed. "That depends."

"On what...?" His husky voice rasped in a deep breath.

"Mmh. On how tasty those cherries are." I smiled at him before pecking his cheek once more and reaching behind me to grab the container of cherries.

Harry huffed and groaned dramatically, muttering curse words under his breath, and I found it difficult to contain my laughter after that. Curly, on the other hand, didn't think it was very funny, so he made me feed him a few cherries to get back on his good side; however, I didn't mind. This task wasn't to hard to complete in comparison to what he might have asked me to do if he knew the truth about Connor and the roses.

And I'm neither prepared nor ready to let go of what's been given to me just yet.

Notes

Hi to all the lovely people who still continue to read this story despite my lack of activity on this site. It's been a ghost town from what I've heard, but hopefully that will change. Summer went by really fast, and I was furious at myself for not updating, but I'm changing that right now.

I meant to update this story the day before I saw the boys at MetLife (they were spectacular by the way), but I lost track of time. I still have a load of AP Homework to do and more independent study for SAT prep, but my goal is to have this story finished before my birthday. I hope I can do it! ;)

Thank you so much for sticking around this long. It's currently 4:25 am where I'm at, but I can't go back to sleep until this chapter is posted.

please comment, vote, and subscribe if you like this story. I can't believe I'm already at 69 votes. You all are freaking amazing!! xx

Question: Why do you think Lucy lied to Harry? What could she possibly mean by her last thought?
