“Connections are made with the heart, not the tongue.” — C. Joybell

Harry's POV

The dining room table was decorated with a candle-lit dinner and two glasses of Chardonnay, replacing the finger sandwiches and juice boxes that occupied the space from earlier. The dim lighting created a more romantic atmosphere as I stood near the window in the living room, watching vehicles speed along the busy roads of London while hoping one of them contained my date. My anticipation for her arrival was killing me inside as the feeling of soft lips synchronizing with mine gradually became a distant memory. I wanted to have Lucy all to myself tonight with no distractions, interruptions, or unwanted phone calls.

Saturday, August 19th, 2014 is a very special occasion--or at least it will be remembered as one when the day ends. I told Lulu to be at my flat by eight o'clock, but it was only 7:30pm, and I had nothing to do to pass the time except imagine what the rest of my night would look like. I could picture my brown eyed girl now, the astonishment on her face as she walks through the door and sees what I have done to the place, her supple, pink lips settling into a warm smile after meeting my gaze. I would pull her body against my chest for a long embrace and let the smell of vanilla and coconuts fill my nostrils. Her scent was intoxicating; I'd never be able to get enough of it.

A quick glance was stolen at the phone in my hand as I released a heavy sigh after finding no new messages. I was a sad excuse of a man. If only my father could see me now, acting like a nervous wreck while I fisted a handful of my curls and wondered what the hell was taking this woman so long. I drew in a deep breath to calm myself down while heading back to the couch but following my footsteps came the melodic jingle of the doorbell.

She's here.

The two of us sat at opposite ends of the table while we finished our home cooked meal in silence and drank our wine, glancing each other's way every so often. I prepared baked ziti with mozzarella sticks on the side, and judging by the way Lucy's lips curled into a smile whenever the fork full of rigatoni noodles met her mouth, I knew it tasted good. Pretty soon the only thing left were saucy plates and empty wine glasses. I slowly rose to my feet and collected our dishes before walking into the kitchen to place them in the dishwasher, starting the cycle. Using the few moments I had alone to rid myself of any nerves, I mentally prepared to do the one thing I've been waiting all night to do.

Lucy's POV

My bottom lip came in between my teeth as I watched Harry exit the kitchen and re-enter the dining room. Like him, I was no longer seated but instead admiring the decorations laid out before me. Red & white rose petals scattered the floor while vanilla scented candles burned in the room, the smell wafting through the air. Everything looked like something out of a fairytale, but nonetheless, my confusion of it all still remained. I was oblivious to the reason why Harry invited me over for dinner and why we were celebrating an unknown occasion with a bottle of wine.

"Like what you see?" The curly haired boy asked me, nudging my side.

I nodded my head and met his forest green eyes with a faint smile. "It's really beautiful Harry, but what's the occasion?" I inquired.

He cleared his throat with an abrupt cough before nervously glancing down at his shoes then back into my eyes. This kind of behavior was unusual for Harry, considering the fact that he was usually so content and sure of everything he did; I never thought I'd see the day where he became mute.

"What's the matter? Cat caught your tongue?" I playfully teased.

"No, it's not that. I just - you look so beautiful tonight, Lucy, and I can't help but wonder how I got to be so lucky to have a girl like you in my life," He confessed. His sweet words formed butterflies in my stomach and turned the color of my cheeks into a velvety red.

"Do you really mean it?" I wondered. As soon as the words left my mouth, Harry gently grabbed my wrists and brought me closer to him, his free hand cupping around my jaw.

"Of course. If I didn't, I wouldn't be asking you to be my girlfriend, now would I?" He responded, sexily chewing on his bottom lip. I swear, my heart swelled up in reaction to the flirtatious gesture.

Did he say what I think he just said?

"G-Girlfriend? You - you're asking me to be your girlfriend?" I repeated again in my state of shock.

Harry chuckled, nodding eagerly. "Please say you'll be mine tonight. I don't think my ego can take the humiliation if you say no," The green eyed male admitted.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, I desperately wanted to shout, but my mouth refused form a coherent sentence. All I managed to do was slightly nod my head, but that seemed to be enough because Harry grinned widely and stroked my cheekbone with his thumb.

"I'm taking that as a yes," He told me before leaning in to close the gap that separated our lips. His mouth swiftly attached to mine, and I couldn't help but notice something about this kiss was different from the others we shared. It was solidifying, passionate, and fulfilling; the intensity left me breathless. My deepening affection for him never ceased to amaze me, and I only hoped these feelings I developed were mutual.

Out of all of the moments we had, I think this was the moment I truly felt myself falling in love with those green eyes. They were out of the ordinary, exquisitely extraordinary, simply breathtaking; no emerald could quite match their complexion. And they were all mine.
