Another Year

We're all here, now.

New town. New you. New town. New you. New town. New you.

Breathe.

Today was it. The day I had been dreading, my anxiety was at an all time high and any stupid little thing could send me over showing these people how much of a freak I really am.

I wasn’t too upset about it, at least I didn’t have to fake it anymore. It wasn’t all that bad either, I guess I had friends, but I didn’t necessarily like them. I know that sounds a bit cold, but they were all bitter people obsessed about things that didn’t matter—the parties were something I was a fan of, they made it all worth it, but they also resulted in dating all the wrong guys and my newly acquired taste for drugs.

Moving to a new place was exactly what I had wanted, and moving in with my brother was going to be enjoyable, but it all happened too fast. I was still an anxious mess on the inside, but somehow on the outside I seemed to keep my cool.

“Oh, you’re ready.”

He was leaning against the door with a stale expression on his face, I turned to face him, “How would you feel if I told you your baby sister smokes cigarettes.”

Zayn laughed, “It’s okay, I’m not mom and dad, besides, you aren’t a baby anymore.”

I couldn’t help but feel better, Zayn was accepting me as an ‘adult’ which was pleasant for a change. My cigarette was in my mouth in record time and my older brother didn’t seem to mind as I lit it up in the house and led the way out of my newly furnished bedroom, “I’ll introduce you to the guys when you get back from school, I’m sure you’ll even meet a few of them there.”

I paused as I was walking down the stairs to turn around and raise an eyebrow at my brother, “You hang out with high school kids?”

He rolled his eyes, “Shut the fuck up and keep walking, you’ll meet them, they’re cool. Don’t be so quick to judge, sis.”

He walked me towards the front door before throwing me the car keys to his jeep, “I talked to mom and dad, they said they don’t want to buy you a car, but since I’m the golden child I might be able to get myself a new car and I can give you mine.”

“Why do they hate me?” I was halfway out the door, letting my cigarette ashes fall freely onto the grass as I stared back at my brother who was leaning in the doorway.

“I don’t know, sis, maybe because you started stealing all of their money for coke.”

I cringed, “Low blow, bro. I told you I got a little excited with it, but I have now learned that cocaine is my abusive boyfriend that I can never go back to so lets just drop it.”

Zayn laughed awkwardly, it takes people some getting used to when they realize that their loved one is a recovering drug addict, “I’m going to be late. I’ll call you after school.”

I walked towards Zayn’s jeep, it had all the doors and windows taken off, it was lifted and it was also lime green; my brother had set me up to look like a giant douche on my first day of school.

My assumptions were right, all eyes were on me as I parked in the only parking space I found after driving around five times looking like an asshole in my loud, obnoxious car. I hopped out, not bothering to lock it since there were no doors, I sighed as I walked up towards the front of the school.

People all around me were hugging old friends, I had no idea where the office was or what my classes were, I looked around, trying to locate a friendly face, finally settling on a pretty girl with long brown hair, “Excuse me.” I started, smiling at her to show that I was friendly, “Can you tell me where the office is?”

She gave me a look that stated I was trash before turning around and walking away, “Thank you, you’re a great person!” I called out after her, rolling my eyes in the process.

Fucking bitch.

My walking was interrupted as three guys with a football thought it would be a good idea to throw it in a full hallway of students, I tried to avoid them, but I guess you can say my attempt failed. Getting knocked onto the ground by a heavy ass dude who can’t even catch a ball was the last thing I was in the mood for.

“Hi there,” he was grinning, clearly amused by the situation, “I’m Liam.”

He was on top of me, and didn’t look like he was in a hurry to get up; my only conclusion was that this guy was fucking retarded. His smile was growing wider as I rolled my eyes, “Liam, can you get the fuck off of me?”

“Well, since you asked so nicely,” Liam said sarcastically as he stood up, holding his hand out after in an attempt to help me; which I ignored. Rolling my eyes as I stood up was a response I could not control, I was almost at my limit.

After rudely walking away, I found the office, which was located down a hall that I had passed numerous times.

“Can I help you?” The secretary asked for the second time, I stood there with my mouth open, thinking of what to say.

“I’m new,” I started, “I need my schedule.”

After going through the bullshit of printing out my schedule, which only took about five minutes, but felt like eleven, I was finally ready to be on my way to find my classes before the bell rang and I was late.

“Do you need someone to show you around?” She asked as she handed me all of my papers. I didn’t even have time to answer as she deiced ‘it would be best’ and called someone down anyway.

I wasn’t even paying attention to the name she called, but when someone opened the door my eyes immediately widened; it was him. The fucking boy who attacked me moments ago was standing in front of me with a smirk, “I need you to show Ella over here where her classes are, she’s new.”

“It’ll be my pleasure, Mrs. Simons,” He held the door open and smiled, “after you, dear.”

We walked out of the office and I was glad to be away from the unnecessarily nice secretary, “So, how come I’ve never seen you around before?”

“Don’t worry about it,” I said as I stepped towards my locker, putting in the combo and throwing my unneeded items into it.

Liam was leaning against the lockers, patiently waiting for me as he talked to friends that walked by, I looked up at him, trying to signal that I was done, but he completely ignored me. The rude brunette from before walked over, placing a hand on his chest and giggling, “Liam!”

Her voice was annoying, “You totally need to come to my party this weekend!”

She hit his chest playfully as he smiled at her, “I’ll see if I can make it.”

I was disgusted at the sight in front of me, I just wanted to get to class already, “You know. I would love to know where my classes are before the bell rings.”

I mustered up my rudest tone as they both looked at me, “Who are you?”

I ignored the girl’s question, “Can we go?”

“Wait, you two know each other?”

This time I couldn’t ignore her, “Yeah, he’s my baby daddy.”

Liam rolled his eyes, “I have to show her around; she’s new. I’ll see you later, Stacy.” Liam said as he gave her a tight hug before she skipped away.

“You think you’re really funny, don’t you?”

I didn’t get a chance to agree before he started walking ahead and I was forced to follow; this place was going to suck.
