Beating Heart

Chapter Three

Jaspers P.O.V

Will, Kyla, and John are here now. Will and Jo are playing around on the dock. It's a good thing they both know how to swim.

"Kyla!" I hug her, after letting Chaplin wander around. She hugs back. "It's been too long." I smile at her.
"Oh yes it has." She says, as we sit down in our own chair around the fire.

"What time is it?" I ask, curiously.

"It's around three right now." She says, looking down at the watch in her right arm.

"Thanks." I say, then start a conversation, "How's your summer been going?"

"Oh it's been wonderful, other than John throwing a ball at my head multiple times." She says. "Will has been trouble too. He's come over multiple times to play Xbox with John."

"Boys do love their gaming," I say. She nods. I grab a hotdog out of the packet and put it on a roasting stick. Then, into the fire it goes.

"Yeah, they do. Since we had to bring Will here, he wouldn't stop talking about MineCraft in the car. I really don't understand some of the monsters in that game." She says, we both let out a small chuckle.

"So where are you sleeping tonight?" I ask. "We could have a sleepover, you know."

"That would be delightful!" She exclaims, then roasts her own hotdog.

"Jo! Will! Want lunch?" I call to them. They drop the dump trucks they were playing with in the dirt, then run to me. I hand them each a hotdog and stick. I watch them carefully as they roast there weenies.

After along while it's time to go inside. Kyla and I go up to my room and get ready for our sleepover. We put pillows and blankets on the floor in front of my TV. Once we've made a comfortable bed we pick out a movie.

"I have The Breakfast Club, Clueless, Pretty in Pink, Mean Girls, and Sixteen Candles." I announce. She laughs then walks over to see the DVDs spread out in front of me.

"Do you have 500 Days Of Summer?" She asks. I nod, then put it out in front of me. "I pick one, which will be this one." She points to 500 Days of Summer. "Then you can pick one to watch. This is how I deal with watching movies with Taylor, my friend."

"Why don't we also watch Clueless?" I ask. She nods.

"So what do you wanna do now?" Kyla asks, laying on her part of the bed we made.

"Let's do our nails." I say, then pull out my box of nail polish.

"I'm sort of feeling the vibe for Twilight." Kyla looks at the movies. Then she brings me back to what happened earlier. The dark red eyes of the boy named Zayn. The ones that scared the fucking shit out of me.

"Yeah, I'm not." I sigh. Hopefully, she won't ask.

"Okay." She says, then looks at the assortment of nail polishes. "I'm gonna do red and black." I gasp, silently. The eyes appear in my head again.

"Cool, I'm doing mine teal and orange." I say, then grab the little bottles, an old magazine, then begin my work. I wouldn't say I'm the best at doing nails, it looks like my sister did them.

"I love this combination." Kyla says, adoring her nails. I giggle, trying to hide the fear of those eyes again.
