Lilas' Laws

Oh Sweet Symphony.

I pulled my freshly purchased chai tea latte up to my lips as I left the coffee shop, taking in the wonderful spiced scent. It was nearly two in the afternoon now. After I had taken a shower and gotten ready the boys, save Peter, had all left to head back to their own flats. Peter had decided to come do a bit of shopping with me, so after stopping at his house for a change of clothes and a shower, he was supposed to meet me at the bookstore about a block away.

The air was a warm, light breeze shuffling through the nice June air. The streets were a little busy, but then again I hadn't been out and about on a Saturday for a few weeks. My hair, a little bit longer than my shoulders skirted behind me as the wind hit me straight in the face. I ducked into the bookshop before my brown locks could get anymore disheveled.

I scanned the small area for Peter's bright blonde hair and found him standing in front of a table of newly released books. Weaving through the other tables, I made my way to him.

"What's that?" I asked, sipping my tea.

"A book." He answered plainly, before turning to smile at me.

I rolled my eyes, "Is it? What's the title?" I said. He held up the cover for me to see.Friends With Benefits: A How To Guide. I snorted, "Why in the world are you looking at that?"

Peter grinned, "It had a pretty cover."

I laughed, "Well open it up then, lets have a look."

Peter flipped open the book and began to read aloud, "The basic rules of having a successful Friends With Benefits relationship." He snickered then, "To be honest, I actually think the whole idea of friends with benefits is complete rubbish." He said, closing the book.

I leaned against the table, taking another sip, "Why's that?"

"Because it never works! You either fall madly in love or end up hating eachother for the rest of your life. If you want to have sex, have sex, but sex, unless its a one night stand, it comes with responsibilities. I think its a cop out." Peter said, dismissing the book and stealing my tea from me.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I think its a rather interesting concept. I mean, if you do it right it could be really lovely. Think about it, sex - good sex - with the same person, no strings attached. You can leave it whenever you want, its easily accessible and simple. It's kind of like a gym membership, you could look at it as a work out. Have sex for as long as you like, and when you're done you're done."

"I still don't think it would work." Peter said, shifting through another book. "Plus sex isn't supposed to be a work out. Its a powerful thing, or at least its supposed to me."

"Well," I said, "You just need to make it a purely physical thing. No attachments at all."

Peter waved a hand, "You sound like more of a guy than I do. Aren't women supposed to be the ones always wanting more? Sometimes I wonder if you even have a heart at all." He winked at me, then slung an arm around me, "Hey, have a look at that!"

I turned in the direction he was pointing, "What? What is it?" Peter dragged me over to another table with a display. I laughed out loud and grabbed the book. "Well would you look at that." I laughed again.

On the cover of the book were the three boys I spent the morning with, along with two others just as equally attractive. One Direction: Dare to Dream: Life as One Direction read the title. They had a book. This day was just getting better and better.

"Hard to grasp how famous they are huh?" Peter smiled, "Like ridiculously famous. And we spent the night partying with them. They slept in your living room!"

I couldn't help but laugh. It was true, meeting them in the way I did it was hard to understand that girls across the world swoon over these boys, and I'd drunkenly slept with one and cooked them breakfast... and they had invited me over tomorrow. I actually felt a little lucky, but it was nice to know that they were just regular perverted life enjoying boys. Oh if their fans could see the side of them that I did.

"Well Harry is definitely the most attractive." I bragged.

Peter grinned, "Have you got a crush?"

I grimaced, "Most definitely not. You of all people should know I never havecrushes." I said the word like it was a disease, "Crushing hearts however..." I smiled, reminding Peter that I was notorious for breaking hearts.

It was often hard for me not to destroy boys little hearts. Unlike most girls, commitment was the last thing I wanted. I was too young to settle, all I care about is having fun. Unfortunately, all that boys I've been with haven't exactly shared that idea. Sure, in the beginning they were all for it, assuming they would either get bored or we'd end up together. Well. What they didn't know is that I was not someone you could get bored of, if I can say so without sounding big headed. And I most certainly was not going to eventually want a relationship. The idea itself makes me feel like running. Thus, my love life consisted of one night stands and I liked it that way.

"Oh yes. You do have a knack for that don't you?" Peter smiled.

"Guilty." I said simply, "Now come. We have shopping to do." And with that, I hooked my arm into Peter's and wisked him out of he store.

Two hours, four dress shops, and one shoe store later Peter and I were standing in the check out line as I waited to purchase two more summer dresses. We just got to the counter when Peter's phone rang and he walked away to answer it. After paying and taking my bag, I walked toward the front of the store to see Peter just getting off his phone.

"Who was that?" I asked as I approached him.

Peter turned to face me, an unpleasant look on his face, "Work." He grimaced, "Henry called in sick so I have to go in tonight to help with some concert." You could tell he was throughly upset. "Fuck the arena sometimes man. If I didn't get to watch free concerts and sports events all the time, I would rather be homeless than work there."

I gave him a sympathetic smile, "I'm sorry. When do you have to go in?"

He checked his watch, "Start in forty five minutes. I better get home and change so I'm not late. I'm sorry L, hate to bail out on you."

"No worries." I shrugged.

"Oh hey." He said suddenly, reaching into his back pocket. "I found this in the couch this morning when I was getting all my shit together." Peter held up a black wallet, "It's Niall's. I was supposed to drop it off later today but looks like I won't get a chance to since I won't be home until god knows when. You think you'd mind dropping it off?"

I took the wallet from Peters hand, "Sure Pete. Now go, don't want to be late."

He sent me a grateful smile before hurrying off in the other direction. I sighed and dropped the wallet into my bag. Grasping the handles of my shopping bags I walked off to finish off my search for the perfect pair of sandals.

It was nearly four now, and it was starting to cool off even though the sun still shone high up in the sky. I wandered down the street, passing an array of shoe shops that didn't manage to match my taste at all. I'd nearly made down the entire street before I'd finally found one. It was a little shop called Symphony.

I stepped through the door and my eyes were met with beautiful displays of very pretty, feminine shoes. To put it simply, I wanted to buy the entire store. My eyes sparkled as they racked over every pair.

"Hello." A warm voice greeted me. I looked up to see a redheaded girl with freckles, "I'm Emilie, let me know if you need any sizes okay?" The girl was beautiful to say the least, but in a very simple way.

I gave her a smile and wandered off to one of the shelves on the side of the store. There were three other people inside shopping, and only two people working. Emilie had left into the back room to grab a pair of shoes for a women, and the other blonde girl who worked here was just emerging from the back room with five boxes piled in the hands for another women. They looked awfully busy, and just now another women walked and started browsing.

I had two pairs of shoes in my hand as I continued to scan the shelves, when Emilie's voice came behind me again, "Can I get you a size in those?"

I turned and smiled, "Yes please, 5 1/2."

She nodded and walked off toward the back room. When she'd returned there were only three people in the store now shopping, one having left without buying and another with two shopping backs of newly purchased shoes. She set the two boxes down next to me on the bench.

"Here you go." She smiled, "Great picks by the way, some of my personal favorites."

I smiled, "Is it always busy like it was a little bit ago?"

She shrugged, "Its off and on. But sometimes its hard to keep up, I love it though. Like the traditional stereotype girl I adore shoes."

I laughed, "Me too, I turned my entire closet into a shoe rack. Had to put my clothes in a wardrobe because there just wasn't any room in there!" I told her as I tried on the first jeweled sandal.

"Oh wow, I'm nearly the same. All my clothes are pushed off to the side of my closet, my shoes are about to take over." Emilie smiled, "So where do you work?"

I was taking off the first pair of sandals as I answered, "Not anywhere right now. I suppose I should start looking soon though. I'd love to work in a shop like this though," I said as I scanned the area, "Small but still busy, plus I'd be surrounded by shoes all day. You're quite lucky."

Emilie's eyes lit up, "You should apply here! We're hiring!"

"Are you?" I asked. The idea suddenly grew on me. Not only would I have something to fill my time, but I'd be surrounded by shoes and I'd have the opportunity to make new girl friends, which I so clearly lacked. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea at all." I smiled, then looked down at the second pair of sandals on my shoes, "And I think I'll take this pair, they're adorable."

Emilie grinned as she took the other box, "Alright, well I'll put these away and meet you at the counter to ring you up and get you an application."

I smiled as she disappeared into the back room. After slipping the sandals off and tucking them back into the box, I walked up to the counter where Emilie returned to ring me up and give me an application. After sliding me the shopping bag we exchanged numbers, she encouraged me to call if I had any questions.

I was smiling as I left the store, a job was really what I needed and what better one to have? I walked back up the street of shops, remembering I had to drop off Niall's wallet. His flat was along the way if I remembered correctly, it was 4:45 now and it would only take me ten minutes or so to get there. So I headed off up the street, my five shopping bags swinging along beside me.

After climbing the stairs, I found the door with the number 04 painted across them. I knocked just as Peter had the night before and waited for an answer. Seconds later the door opened to reveal Niall in a t shit and jeans, his eyes surprised and excited when he saw me.

"Lilas!" He cheered, "What have I done to earn the pleasure?"

I smiled at his Irish accent. It never failed to make me adore him even more. I fished around in my bag for his wallet, "Left this at my flat." I said, handing him the wallet as he took it gratefully.

"You're a life saver! I thought I'd lost it," Niall grinned, then his eyes landed on all my shopping bags, "Have fun did you?" He said.

"Loads. Might even get a job at a shoe shop."

His blue eye twinkled, "Lovely! Oh! You should come in and meet Liam, we've told him all about you." Niall said with a smile.

Niall seemed the most friendly even though all the boys I'd met appeared to be nice as well. Niall just had that little something about him that made it incredibly hard not to constantly think about how adorable he was. It was probably the accent, but his looks didn't hurt either. There was a part of me that just wanted to do what he asked because seeing him all cheery was becoming addictive, but I had to remind myself that if I got in too deep with these boys it would be incredibly hard to dig my way out.

I shifted the bags a little, "Oh no, I don't want to intrude. Plus I've got all these bags I've got to lug home. Don't want to have to think about doing it later." I smiled.

But Niall wouldn't take no for an answer, "Nonsense, Liam can give you a lift home later so you won't have to carry them at all. Now come along." He said, pulling me inside before I'd had a chance to argue with him.

Oh these boys would be the death of me. I could see it now.
