Love In Lights

Things Will Never Be

“Teen Vogue did a spread this week focusing on the girl power behind girl bands. Groups like Purity, Little Mix and G.R.L were just a few who participated in the theme of the month. There are powerful and provocative photos spanning both the front and following pages of the magazine as well as in depth conversations with the girl band members and how they’ve been advocates for young women everywhere.
We have been told that Photoshop was not used on any of the photos, which is a first coming from the highly confrontational Vogue magazine. They have been known for using Photoshop to the extreme. It seems the company is trying to lift their image and better support young girls within society. What better ways to do this then advertise teenage girls idols across the front page.
Vogues’ own agenda aside, the articles are deep and personal for each interviewee with Gracie Bell and Kate Hernahm from Purity going into great depth on their own battle with image and how close they came to committing suicide. Perrie Edwards from Little Mix details her wedding drama and the members of G.R.L discuss how hard it was to continue singing after losing a member of their group to suicide.
The magazine issue will be out next week and will no doubt hit the market in a big way.”– September 2016

“Hey I’m heading out.” Frankie announced, jumping up from the chair and grabbing her bag from beside the couch. I glanced away from the television to watch her.

“Where you going?” I asked, I was incredibly bored and willing to do anything by this point.

“Uh just going to have lunch with Harry.” Frankie searched through her bag before clipping it shut and beginning to slip the closest shoes on. I ignored the fact that they were mine. “We have some things to talk about.” She backed up and was out of the living room before I even asked if I could come.

I waited until the front door slammed shut before I focused back on the movie I was only vaguely watching.

“Did Frankie just leave?”

I looked up at Lucinda running a towel through her wet hair at the entrance to the hallway.

I nodded at her. “Said she was having lunch with Harry.” I told her lazily flicking through the channels, no longer interested in the movie. My phone beeped while Lucinda headed back down the hallways.

I stretched across the couch to grab my phone from the coffee table and flicked the lock screen open to the messages: Louis’ name sitting at the top. Curiously I clicked into it, seeing a short message from Louis asking me to lunch.

My stomach fluttered, happy that he wanted to hang out with me, as friends, so soon since our talk. I text him back a quick confirmation before racing to my room to find the best clothes. Frankie’s stuff were half piled on my bed and I rolled my eyes, shoving it all back onto hers before walking into our cupboard and grabbing the first pair of jeans I could find with a long see-through, black t-shirt and a denim jacket to throw over top.

I grabbed the pair of boots sitting next to our door, unsure if they belonged to Frankie or me by now and headed out of the room to run into Lucinda.

“And where are you going?” She asked, exasperated.

“Louis asked me to lunch.” I grinned at her, gabbing my wallet from in the kitchen and tucking my phone into my back jean pocket.

Lucinda looked disappointed. “Frankie left, Kate didn’t come home from Liam’s last night and Gracie is spending the day with Toby. And I’ll just sit in the flat all alone and boyfriendless.” She grumbled, heading into the living room.

I frowned and followed her in there. “Hey I’m boyfriendless too and well when was the last time you talked to Aaron, a proper talk, where neither of you fell asleep within a couple of minutes.”

Lucinda fell down onto the couch and shrugged up at me, keeping her eyes trained on whatever channel I had left on the television. I smiled at her indulgently and bent down to place a kiss to her cheek.

“Call your boy and I’ll see you in a couple of hours.” I turned and headed towards the door, grabbing a white scarf from one of the hooks in front of it. “Buy, love you Luce.” I called before shutting the door behind me and heading down to the foyer, where I was greeted by a doorman who ordered a taxi for me.

I shot Louis a text, letting him know I was on my way to the restaurant when I buckled myself into the back and the driver pulled out into midday London traffic.

I could see Louis sitting on the back verandah when I entered the front of the restaurant. The waitress greeted me eagerly, before I even said my name, and blushed her towards Louis; who ignored her completely and sent me a blinding smile.

I thanked the waitress and sat down, waving Louis down when he went to stand. “How did you know I had a craving for the chips here?” I greeted Louis, one hand opening the menu already sitting on the table in front of me. I was bored-hungry, ready to eat whatever was set in front of me.

“I ordered their garlic bread.” Louis said.

I smiled widely. “You know me too well Tomlinson.” I laughed and my eyes searched down the white glossy menu page. “I’m glad you wanted to do lunch, I was dying of boredom back home.”

“You girls stay at Kate’s right?” Louis asked, his hands folded neatly on top of his menu as he paid complete attention to me while I tried to half mine between talking to him and deciding what food I was going to order.

“Yeah, her place is big enough for us all while we stay here. Although Frankie and I share a room but it doesn’t bother us.” I shrugged, my eyes settling on a chicken dish with a side of chips.

“You wouldn’t want to get your own place, here in London?” Louis asked.

I had finished with the menu and looked up at Louis properly, shrugging at his question. “We all stay with Kate here, they all stay with me in Australia, everyone stays with Frankie when we’re in California and so on with the other girls. It’s nicer then staying in hotel rooms all the time.” Louis would know how horrible a hotel room could be after touring for over a year.

“But you’re centered in London, with this part of the company mostly, right?” Louis asked. Our waitress arrived with our garlic bread and a jug of water before taking our order and leaving again. Her features had slowly begun to lose their redness.

“We are centered here mostly but I don’t know. I guess I hadn’t thought about putting roots down here yet.” I faded out, Louis sinking back in his chair while I grabbed one piece of garlic bread. “I only just furnished my house back home when I was there the other week.”

Louis smiled and reached for a piece of bread. “Harry and Niall mentioned it, said they helped you put it all together as well.”

I snorted, shaking my head at Louis. “I wouldn’t really call what they did as helping. They both disappeared when we had to set up the outdoor furniture and came back three hours later with pizza. We had no idea where they were the whole time.” I complained to Louis who let out a chuckle.

“It must be nice to feel settled down though? With a house that you actually call home?” Louis pushed further, I began to grow weary as to what he was trying to push across to me.

“I suppose,” I began slowly, “I mean my house isn’t anything like yours. I haven’t got around to putting photos up or, I don’t know, I guess it just doesn’t have that homey vibe quite yet. More like a holiday retreat.” I said to a seemingly satisfied Louis.

I watched him for a moment, letting the silence settle over us. Louis was up to something, searching for something and I wasn’t sure what. I refused to let his piercing stare get to me, barely shifting in my seat while meeting his eye. I didn’t know what he was searching for but I knew that I didn’t want Louis to have it. Our friendship was too vulnerable and new to start digging too deep between each other.

Our creepy stare match was interrupted, by our waitress bringing both our lunches out, setting the plates on the table with a small stammer. I smiled at her kindly, thanking her and grabbing my knife and fork.

“So how’s your girlfriend?” I asked Louis, making him pause halfway through taking a bite. I was determined to be perfectly okay with talking about her, friends talk about this stuff all the time. “I never actually got her name the other day.”

“Anna.” Louis blurted around a mouthful of food before quickly swallowing, small red blotches taking over his cheeks.

“How did you both meet?” I asked, forcing myself to cut into my chicken calmly.

“We, uh, went to school together. She came down to London for a bit and stayed with me. We’ve always kind of kept in touch.” Louis explained while I forcefully pulled my chicken to pieces with my knife and fork until Louis’ hands stopped mine.

“We don’t have to talk about this.” He said quickly, his hand squeezing mine.

I pulled my hand out of his grasp. “Friends talk about this stuff Lou.” I smiled hoping that he would stop trying to make this so hard.

Louis sighed, his food still sitting untouched in front of him. “I saw that you girls were booked in for a recording booth next week. Do you have new material?” Louis changed the subject, his hand finally going for his neglected knife and fork.

I let the subject change happened. “Frankie’s got some songs she wants to try out and so does Luce. See how they sound, how we want to work it all if we like them.” I chewed on a chip before grabbing a drink of water.

“Ed mentioned that he’d been wanting to write a song with you girls.”

I nodded and swallowed my water. “Yeah I know him and Kate were talking about it the other day, apparently her and Liam ran into him on their date, lunch, thingy.”

Louis snorted at the wave of my hand. “What are they doing?” He asked causing me to shrug.

“I’m not going to get into it. I’ve caused enough drama for the two of them.” I held up my hands in mock surrender, Louis’ face turning soft at my words. I took a deep breath and searched for another change of subject. If Louis got to fend off certain subjects then so did I and I really didn’t want to talk about the past, well the bad parts of it anyway. Not today.

“How are your sisters and your Mum? I haven’t seen them in forever. I know Annalisa still talks to Lottie and Fiz on Facebook all the time.”

-

“We had fun Lissy, it wasn’t bad or dramatic or energy draining. It was a nice fun lunch where we laughed and chatted and I didn’t feel like I had just sat through an emotional train ride of repressed memories and badly communicated emotions.” I firmly told Annalisa through the phone as I lay on my bed, staring up at the bare white roof.

“Yes because what you just said isn’t dramatic at all. You’re a celebrity Annabelle, your life is dramatic, deal with it.”

I rolled my eyes at the sarcasm dripping through the phone.

“Well I’m choosing not too. I don’t want drama Lis, I’m so sick of drama and fighting every step of the way. Can’t this one thing just be easy for me?” I whined into the phone.

“I honestly think there is just too much between Louis and you for you two to be able to just become friends.” Annalisa said softly, her voice genuine and I couldn’t hear her fingers hitting her keyboard like I had been for the last hour that we chatted.

Frankie wandered through the bedroom door, distracting me for a moment as she dumped her coat onto the bed and kicked shoes off into a corner of the room.

“Louis and I are friends Annalisa. Friends and that’s all and we are both happy and mature enough to deal with our relationship like this. I know what I’m doing.” I grumbled ignoring Frankie’s snort and her whispered ‘Louis’ before disappearing out of the room.

I frowned after her, she had been gone longer then I had today, despite the fact she was just supposed to be going to lunch with Harry.

“Whatever you say Annabelle. But you know I will be the first one to tell you ‘I told you’ so when it all blows up in your face.” Annabelle chimed over the phone; the background music of her keyboard kicking back up.

I rolled my eyes and settled back down to stare up at the roof. “Yeah, love you too, sis.”

Song Lyrics - Come Back Home by We Are The In Crowd

Just letting you all know I'm slowly moving my stories onto Wattpad as well so if you are more keen to rad my stories through there then you definitely should - my name is the same as it is on here :)

I'm actually only two days late on an update! YES, the closest I've been to updating on time in forever. Hopefully it just gets better from here :)

Comments always get me updating faster xx

Comments

please please update this soon.

AHHH! Felicity is making me crazy, but Aaron and Lucinda do have a point she needs to stand her ground! Also Charlotte was so cute getting nervous like that!

Anyway thanks for another great chapter! I hope you are still doing well and enjoying a nice Australian summer! :)

@ohboybands
Hey that's okay! It's been taking me ages to update lately so we are pretty even! hehe. I'm sad about it ending too but it will be in only a few more chapters and I'm excited for you guys to see the resolution.
Aww I hope you are having an amazing time in London. I certainly loved it but I did miss home a little bit. Especially beaches and constant sun, I really missed the beaches tho (I spend half my life there) haha.

Sorry it took so long to comment. I literally just re-read the whole thing and I still love it as much as I did the first time, if not more! I'm sad to think about it ending, but I knew it was soon! Hopefully Belle will finally be able to confess her love to Louis by the end! Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed Europe! I just moved to London and am in love with it that I don't know how you could of left! Also I'm so glad you're actually trying to tie up all the loose ends, because I hate when stories just end.
P.S. Sorry my comments were so random it's 6AM in London and I've been sick -- so like no sleep these past two days.

Annabelle's story is one of the first that drew me repeatedly to this site. You paint her struggles as authentic and the comfort as conceivable. Your Louis is quite the tragic hero and I love reading him. Cheers and happy writing :)
