Wished I Stayed

i can see you there with the city lights

Liam walked Clarissa to her temporary home, which was at her dad’s place. He stopped for a moment and gritted his teeth together since he knew her father didn’t like him too much. “Something the matter?” Clarissa asked with a raise of an eyebrow, and he shook his head as he followed her across the street. She took out her key and opened the door before she glanced back at him.

“Um, you can come in if you like, and uh, talk if you want?” she asked in a question sort of way, and Liam rubbed the back of his neck before he shook his head.

“Yeah, um, okay,” he nodded before he followed her inside the house. He still needed to continue with the memories, so he awkwardly stood off to the side as he glanced around at various things. It looked exactly like it did since the last few years he had been there. With its yellow walls, it was a bit bright, but Liam always tried to push it aside.

“Did you want something to drink?” she asked as she tossed her muffin wrapper into the trash.

Liam shook his head as he replied, “I’m fine. I’ll just continue.” He took a seat on the couch, and she sat next to him. He watched her for a moment before he tried to think of what to say next.

“My parents and your mom seemed to think of us as the perfect couple. Your dad, however, never did like me,” Liam said, and he was glad that her dad wasn’t in the house.

A whole month passed full of dates and laughter and kisses. Clarissa was making him into a less serious person and was helping him into having fun. Finally, they were heading to her father’s place. It had taken so long since Clarissa was never very fond of her dad. He was rather rude to people, and he only ever cared about his girlfriend.

Of course, her father wanted to know about her relationships, and he wouldn’t stop her about it until he met the man. “Are you sure about this?” Clarissa asked once more as her grip on his hand tightened, and he could see her practically shaking. He chuckled lightly as he pulled her close and kissed the top of her head.

“You’re more worried about this then I am, Clarissa,” he shook his head. “Even if he doesn’t like me, I’m not going anywhere.” He kissed her forehead, and she smiled at that as she laced their hands together. She nodded before they started up to the red painted door. It was a small blue house with a big red door, and Liam found it a bit strange.

Soon, the door was opening, and a man with salt and pepper hair stood at the door. His eyes instantly went to Liam, and they roamed him over before he scoffed. The man was muscular, and Liam had some muscles, but he wasn’t anywhere close to this man.

“This is him?” he asked Clarissa, and he watched as she clenched her jaw and nodded.

“Yes, dad. This is Liam,” she motioned towards him, and her dad stepped back for the both of them. The two stepped into the house, and Liam ran a hand through his hair before he turned his eyes to her father.

“He looks like a weakling,” he chuckled as he crossed his arms. The man was buff, and he could see the muscles through the long-sleeved white shirt he had.

Clarissa rolled her eyes as she commented, “No one can be as buff as you, dad, and I don’t like overly muscled men. Liam is perfect.” She smiled up at him, and he couldn’t help but smile down at her because he thought she was perfect as well.

“My dad didn’t like you?” she asked with a curious look, and he shook his head.

“He didn’t like me at all. You hated that he didn’t like me because you thought of me as perfect,” Liam said, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at this because he was nowhere near perfect.

Right after his chuckle, he heard the slam of the door, and he expected her dad as he lifted his head to glance over at the door. What he got was far worst. “Liam,” Harry said in a curt way as he held Bella in his arms. She was sleeping, and he went down the hall in her arms.

Liam couldn’t help but think of Bella. The girl had dimples herself, and he saw them the day of the hospital when she had a huge grin on her face. Her lips were like Harry’s, and he couldn’t help but have a bit of jealousy in him. That should have been his child, but he had left, and he wished he had stayed.

“Will you stay for dinner, Liam?” Clarissa asked, and he looked at her before he bit his bottom lip. He let out a sigh as he watched that face of hers, and he slowly nodded himself.

“Alright,” he muttered before he turned his head away. She grinned and hopped up before she skipped to the kitchen.

Soon, Harry’s footsteps were starting their way back towards the living room, and soon, they were both staring at each other. “Liam,” he began, “I think we need to talk.”
