Never Tear Us Apart

LES MALHEURS DE SOPHIE

Demi began to drag a weeping Sophie into the kitchen and onto a barstool. A shocked Harry still stood by the door, he had tried to comfort her but everytime he did she would scream 'Don't touch me!'

It hurt Harry's insides to see that he was the one that was causing all of this, but he thought after she helped him with Olivia she may still take him back. But he couldn't be more wrong. Sophie hoped that helping him with Olivia would finally end things between them. He would go his way and she would finally be able to go her way. But nothing ever goes how Sophie plans. One of the most famous books in french literature is titled 'Les Malheurs de Sophie.' Translated to Sophie's misfortunes. This is exactly how Sophie felt at this moment in time, her life is never simple, never easy, it may seem like it is, and then bam! It hits her like a ton of bricks. And at the back of her mind she knew who was to blame for her misfortunes. Her. Noone else, but her. She had to stop blaming other people for her own nieve ways.

Demi's hand which was comforting her by rubbing her back was now replaced with a larger hand. She slowly lifted her tear strained head to see Harry with a single tear running down his face. In all the years she has known him, she has never seen him cry. Never. This was a suprise in itself.

''I am sorry.'' He spoke as he engulfed her in a tight hug. Sophie didn't decline.
''It's too late for apologies Harry. Far too late.'' She whispered into his chest, but she still didn't move.
Her breathing began to return back to normal, and so did her heartbeat, she felt calm, and at peace, in his arms.

But she just couldn't forget what he had done to her. She remembered seeing the pictures of him and Olivia together. He had no care for Sophie's feelings then. So why should he care now? If Olivia hadn't tuned out to be a phsycotic murderer, he would still be there, with her. Sophie reluctantly pulled away from the hug and without looking him in the eye made her way up to her room. Demi appeared in the kitchen doorway with her arms folded and a solemn look on her face. ''You ruined her you do know that right?''
Harry didn't have the guts to reply. He didn't know how to.
''She quit her job, left the city she loved so much, left everyone and everything she knew and loved. Sure this place holds some great memories for her. But it's not her home, and it never will be. If you just loved her like you were suppose to and not get distracted by the slightest flash of another blonde, you wouldn't be in this mess.''
''What do you expect me to do?''
''Well firstly, you can't keep running back into her life like this and expecting everything to be okay. Your slowly killing her Harry. She's not the Sophie I know anymore. I can hardly recognise her. And it's not just the hair Harry, something inside her has changed.''
''I can't just leave her.''
''Well you shouldn't of done what you did then. She's tired of giving out chances, and getting nothing in return.''
''But I can fix this.''
''No you can't Harry.'' But this wasn't Demi speaking anymore. Sophie appeared behind her and signalled for her to leave, and she did. Sophie continued. ''You can't fix this Harry.'' Sophie sat on the bar stool opposite him and took his large hands in hers. She knew this would grab his attention.

''Listen to me Harry.'' She spoke firmly but softly. After all he had put her through she still loved him dearly, and her kind personality shone through here. ''We are broken. We can't be fixed and as much as I'd love to run back into your arms and stay there forever, we just can't, we've been thrown off the mantlepiece too many times, we are beyond repair. I helped you with Olivia because I could sense the fear in your voice that night, and if anything had happened to you I knew I'd have your blood on my hands.''

Harry's tear was now plural and were running freely down his cheeks. He managed to let out a quite whisper. ''But what if we had some really really really strong glue.'' He sounded like a little boy who refused to accept his teddy's arm or leg could not be fixed. ''But we don't.''
''I wouldn't be so sure Sophie.'' He brush his lips against hers for a mere second and one of his tears dripped onto Sophie's cheek. His pain was now hers, and hers was now his.
''It's you Sophie. It's you.'' He whispered against her lips once more.
Sophie remained frozen, unable to move or even speak.
