Keeping Hope

Game Night

It was Friday, the first game of the season and Emma was much better. Harry made sure to come by every day with homework and see how she was doing. My mum and Emma's auntie came round with foods and sorts to make sure she is eating and getting stronger, and once she was out of bed her friends came to visit. She was still not back at school, though she was planning on going to the game tonight, to cheer on Harry and Niall. Her dad wasn't too delighted about her going out on such a chilly night, soon after she was sick, though my mum and auntie M talked him into letting her going, telling him it is not for long, and they will bring her back soon after.

When the time of the game neared, Emma pulled over the team's jumper Niall gave her, and a beanie form Harry to cover her head. Her jeans were tucked into her Dr. Martens and a light coat pulled around her shoulders to keep her warm.

Emma's POV

Harry's mum was going to drive us both to the game, where we would be meeting Auntie M. Dylan, Jennifer, Eleanor and Perrie at the front seats. Each player got two tickets of front seats to give away to family and friends. Since I got a ticket from Niall, Harry gave his to his mum and Dylan. Louis's parents were out of town, his second ticket went to Jennifer, allowing all of us to sit together during the game. To be truthful, I wasn't sure how the game went. I knew they kicked around the boll trying to get it into the other teams net, and frankly that was enough for me.

I walked with Anne to the bleachers, when I heard my name being called. We both stopped and turned to see who it is.

"Auntie M," I smile, taking a few steps towards her.
"Hello darling, happy your dad let you out tonight," She hugged and kissed my cheek.
"Me too, I was quite sick being in the house. This is Harry's mum, Anne," I introduce, though I have a feeling they already know each other.
"Yeas, I know. How are you dear, how lovely it is to have Harry back on the team," Auntie M kissed her cheek as well. I was happy she treated her in such a nice manner, and not the way some kids still treated Harry. I walked by their side and listened to them chat about the different things grownups chat about.

When we arrive at the bleachers Dylan and Jennifer are already there with Perrie and Eleanor. They all get up to welcome me back, even though this is not really a school activity.
"Take this," Eleanor whispers in my ear pushing something into my hands. When I look down I see the diary.
"Why is it here? I don't have a bag for it," I whisper back.
"Perrie brought it with her, just hold on to it for now," I sit down between auntie M and Dylan, the diary in between us hidden from watchful eyes. I was scared Anne might see it and recognize it to be Hope's.
"Just relax," Dylan nudges me.
"Em, are you coming to the after party?" Jennifer asked leaning over Dylan.
"After party? You don't even know if they'll win," I pull a face.
"Oh they will!" Everyone said together, including auntie M and Anne.
"Wow, how is everyone so sure?" I raise my brows in question.
"Watch and see love, just watch and see," Dylan puts a hand around my shoulder.

The game begins and I am surprised to see all boys on the field gathered together in a circle as if they are best friends.
"You see, everything is left off the field for the game, once they win, everyone goes back to hating each other," Dylan whispers in my ear so my aunt won't hear, though she was too deep in conversation with Anne to pay attention.
The crowd cheer which makes my heart stop, and Dylan pulls me up to my feet with all the other fans.

Harry's POV

We are gathered in the locker room for a half time pep talk.
I hadn't realized until today how much I have really missed the field, the game, the crowds.. I felt the energy running through my veins and it made me feel alive like never before.

"Yo Styles! That was a good play out there," Malik yelled "Keep it up!"
The rest of the team grumbled and nodded in agreement.

"All right ladies, shut up and let me talk," Coach Calder walked into the room, a smug grin on his face.
"That was a good play, we can win this! I am reminding you to leave your differences in the locker room. On the field your teammates are your best lads! Don't forget that!"
Everyone claps at that.

"I'm not finished! Styles, it was a good play indeed, do you have more in you?" The coach, and the team were all staring at me, waiting for a reply.
"Yes sir," I answer, a smirk tagging at the corners of my lips. I knew that Emma and my mum were watching, and I wanted to show off, for both of them.
"Good, Horan and Malik, you're up," The coach looks at his notes.
"Liam, you sit out this one, let that ankle of yours heal. Louise, you're in,"
The coach calls out the players who will be playing this half.
I was happy Louis was playing again. I know his play well, we used to play on the team before juvie. Niall got on after I got locked up, but he was good enough, and on the field he treated me just like the rest, putting his hate for me aside.

I swig down some water, and then spill some on my head. We need to go back out, but before I do I take out my phone and send Emma a text.

To Emma: I Hope you're watching.

I then put it back and get to my feet like the rest of the boys ready to kick some arse.

Emma's POV

I was cold sitting outside, and I tugged my coat, clenching it tightly around me. I was Happy we won the game, but I was much happier it was finally over, feeling tired and weak too.
I was hoping Harry would come out before auntie M drives me back home to celebrate the win at my house, my dad promising to join.

"Anne, you and Harry should come too!" auntie M offered.
"That is a wonderful idea! Please come," I play begged Harry's mum.
"Well, I would love to, though I am not sure if Harry had plans for after the game," Anne crinkled her forehead.
"Well, then, you should join either way," Auntie M made up her mind for her.

Since I was too cold, I said goodbye to my friends and went with my auntie to wait for Niall in the car.
Now that I was out of Anne's eye sight, I took Hope's diary out of the back of my waist band and let it sit on my lap.
"What is that?" Auntie M asked when she noticed it.
"Eleanor's notebook, so I can copy the school work I've missed," The lie comes out so natural to me, I didn't even blink. Auntie M believed the lie, even though it looks like a journal and not a school notebook.

"Did you see THAT?" Niall opens the car door and falls in, a huge grin on his face.
"We kicked their ARSES that's what we did!!" He was banging on the back of the seat with excitement.
I turn around and smile at him, "It was truly amazing,"
"Thanks for coming Em! How are you feeling?"
"Better, though it had gotten quite cold, so I was glad it was over," I told him the truth.
Niall and his mum got into a conversation about the game, which I understood nothing about. So I took out my phone and was quite surprise to see I've got a message.

From Harry: I hope you're watching.

I couldn't help the smile that made my lips tug up, thanking god they were in a too deep of conversation to notice.

To Harry: I watched every little bit! Will you be coming over with your mum to celebrate?

After a moment I get a text back.

From Harry: Sure am =)

I put my phone back and listen in to the conversation, just to find out it was no longer about football, changing the subject to the Styles.

"I didn't know you knew Anne at all," Niall frowned. I knew he wouldn't be happy once he heard about them joining us.
"Of course I know Anne silly," Auntie M rolled her eyes.

We get to my house, and my dad was waiting outside for us.
"Well done Ni!" My dad greeted Niall with a tap on the back and a high five.
"You should have seen it Uncle Jon! You've got to come next game!" Niall says happily before walking into the house.

"How are you feeling sweetie?" My dad kissed my forehead.
"Better," I let him hug me before I follow Niall through the door.
I didn't want him to act this way with me, because I am afraid to get used to it, and once I do it might go away, and then I will miss it.

Harry's POV

When my mum and I get out the car, the chief and Niall's mum are outside talking quietly.
We approach them, and the chief shakes my hand, congratulating me about the game.
"Harry, Emma and Ni are inside, go join them," Niall's mum says kindly. I glance at my mum and she gives me a slight nod of reassurance that it is ok.
It isn't for her permission to go see my friends, it is to make sure she is all right to be left alone with them.

They have gone up to Emma's room, so I climb the stairs to join them. The door is half open and I can hear their conversation.
"He's a good football player, I'll give you that, but I just don't trust him," Niall tells her.
"You don't even know him," Emma says sharply.
"Because I don't trust him," Niall repeats.
"Well maybe if you would give him a chance you would find he is a good guy," Emma states.
"I just don't understand what you see in him,"
I was ready to slam my fist in his face, but before I move to open the door Emma starts talking again.
"Look Ni," And I imagine her taking a seat by his side on her bed, her voice turned soft, explaining.

"I know you are looking out for me, and I know a lot of people don't trust Harry because he was in juvie and the whole story with Hope, but if you put that aside and look beyond it, I promise you he is good. He is a good friend to have,"
"How can you look beyond? Emma you weren’t even here when that all went down, you have no idea what you're talking about," Niall answers in a tone you use when you speak to little kids who don't understand.

"No, you don't know what you're talking about! Maybe if you gave him a chance and you actually became friends you would have some truth enlighten you," Emma snaps.
"Yes, I heard about this little group you have going on with Perrie, El and Harry," Niall said sulking.

"You know Niall, it's not even that. I was so unhappy for such a long time! My life was shit! I would cry myself to sleep and feel sorry for myself and what happened to my family, and when we moved here I hated it even more! Because I had to leave my life behind.. But then I met Harry… And as cliché as it sounds for the first time in a long time I felt like myself. With Harry I am not the chief's daughter, I am not the girl who drowned, I am not the girl with the mum who died. I am me. I am Emma. He sees me for who I am, and when he talks to me he looks me in the eye and he listens, and I.. I just.."
"You like him," Niall finishes for her.
"I do, he makes me feel alive,"
"I hope you know what you're doing," Niall says. I decide to wait a few moments before coming in, so it doesn't seem as if I've listened in.

But just as I push open the door, Niall reaches to the diary on the bed stand, and a gasp leaves Emma's mouth.

Before Harry or Emma our able to make a move, Niall flips open the diary, not noticing the two next to him.
"Niall no!" Emma shoots to her feet, which makes Niall drop the journal to the floor. Harry bends down to pick it up, his jaw clenched.
"What is that? Is that yours?" He glances at Emma. Emma nods, shooting a stare at Harry.
"I thought you only write in the sketchbook, I have never seen this before.. I think," Niall furrows his brows.
The tension between Harry and Emma is so strong, it makes Niall look up at them.
He knew it wasn't Emma's. He could see it by looking at Harry's fingers, which turned white with the force of his grip. I knew Harry was holding himself from leaping at Niall, so when he said what he said I was caught by surprise.
"It's not Emma's, it is Hope's,"

@CyannaMichele
Oh darling.. I'm so sorry...
A mother teaches us everything-except how to live without her.. It is painful and sometimes the memories knock the wind out of us, and the feeling of lose comes in waves, but you're strong and wonderful because of her- and nothing is your fault! I am sure she is so very proud and full of joy with who you're growing up to be! SO cherish your memories and keep them close to your heart for they will make you smile and happy, and strong at moments of need ! Even though she is not right in front of you to touch and to hold, she is there with you- in your heart. And I truly believe you can talk to her and she will answer, you will feel it, and know what she would guide you to do.
Lots of love poppet- chin up xx

It's really sad that Emma lost her mom , I could relate to her though I lost my mom too and Miss her very much and I currently live with my dad . Not a day goes by that i don't think about her , sometimes thinking that it's my fault . If only i would have stayed up she probably wouldn't have died
