Against All Odds

nineteen

When I pull up to the pub I find myself feeling extremely nervous. The last time I saw Liam I announced myself as Harry's girlfriend and we broke up so fast after that. I wonder if Harry has talked about me at all with Liam. I wonder what he knows. It's a regular sports bar, so I don't need ID to get in thank goodness. When I walk inside I look for a curly head of hair, spotting him to the left end of the bar. I walk towards him slowly, niticing the back of Liam beside him. There's a girl on Liam's right side; she's got really long brown hair and she's quite small.

Harry turns to talk to them, laughing at something. I smlie at the sight and as his head is turns his eye catches mine. He turns and smiles to me and I wave shyly. He says something to Liam and stands to walk towards me. He looks casual but handsome as ever, completely unaware of the attention he's receiving from the many girls around the room. I scan the area and realize that most of them are gawking at his perfect; button up undone to reveal a black t-shirt, sleeves rolled to just above his elbows to show a few of his tattoos. His jeans are perfectly snug and he just look incredible. He makes something so simple look like it should be in a magazine. As I'm giving evil eyes to all the girls staring at him, I realize to my relief that there's no one I know here. Thank goodness. People we know don't usually hang out in this part of town anyway.

"Hey," he says casually. "You look amazing."

"Thanks, but apparently all eyes are on you," I mutter, glaring at a girl to my right that just won't stop staring despite my obvious presence. Her eyes meet mine and she rolls them at me before going back to her friend. Bitch. Harry chuckles and puts his finger on my jaw, gently turning my face towards his.

"Good thing I only have eyes for you," he says softly. I smile and he steps towards me. He leaves a quick and gently kiss on my lips, instantly reminding me of this morning and leaving me wanting more. "Come on, come meet Sophia."

He takes my hand and leads me towards the bar, letting me sit on the stool where he previously sat beside Liam. He stands beside me.

"Liam, you already know Savannah," he says. I smile at him.

"Yes I have. How are you?"

"I'm good."

"Harry talks about you constantly, did you know that?" he says. Harry playfully punches his arm and when I look up at him he's smiling bashfully.

"Is that so?" I ask, still looking up at him.

"He's been talking about you the entire night," the girl says, leaning in front of Liam. "Hi, I'm Sophia."

"Savannah," I intorduce. She sticks her hand in front of Liam and I shake it quickly. She seems nice enough.

"Are you both done embarrassing me?" Harry asks, stepping around me and sitting in the chair on my other side. "We should get a booth." He looks around and waves a waitress over. She comes over and stands a little too close to him in my opinion.

"Can I get you something?" she asks a little too friendly. I roll my eyes and look back towards the bartender.

"Can we get a booth please?" I hear Harry asks. She gives her flirty little answer and the bartender walks over to me.

"You look like you could use some tequila," he says, grinning at me. I look around and see that the others already have drinks. I guess he assumes I'm their age.

"Long island iced tea please," I respond. He winks and moves to make my drink. Harry puts his hand on my leg and squeezes.

"What are you doing?" he asks lowly. I shrug and the guys sets my drink in front of me. I thank him and turn to look at Harry. "You can't drink that." He points to my drink and I roll my eyes slightly.

"Are you going to tell him I'm seventeen?" I ask quietly so no one else hears. He clamps his mouth shut and shakes his head. I can see he's trying not to smile at the fact that I've outdone him. The flirty little waitress comes back and announces that our table is ready. Just to Harry, not the rest of us. I shoot daggers at her with my eyes while I pick up my drink and Harry gestures for me follow. I feel his hand on the small of my back as I follow Liam and Sophia to the table.

"Well she was completely smitten with you," Sophia says, smirking at Harry. He looks genuinely confused at the compliment. I sip on my drink and wait for him to say something.

"What do you mean?" he asks, sliding closer to me.

"Are you kidding? She was totally flirting with you," Sophia says, rolling her eyes a little. Good to know she's bothered by it as well. "I mean you're obivously here with someone." She gestures to me and Harry slowly turns his eyes to meet mine.

"Did you notice?" he asks, still completely oblivious. I roll my eyes and take the straw out of my mouth.

"Are you serious? You didn't even notice her completely throwing yourself at you?" I ask. Harry chuckles and places his hand on my leg.

"That's a bit dramatic, love," he says. He takes a sip of his drink and I just shake my head. So this is what it's like to be out with Harry. Girls throwing themselves at him. At least now I'm here but what about when I'm not? He's obviously blind when it comes to flirting.

"So how did you two actually meet? I never asked Harry," Sophia says. I stiffen a little and get really nervous when I realize I have no idea what Harry told them about us. I take another sip of my drink and look at him to tell him to answer. He looks just as nervous as I do. Apparently he didn't think about it.

"We umm..." he looks at me and narrows his eyes, thinking of something. "We...met at...the market. Yeah."

"Let me guess, you were buying bananas," Liam says, laughing. Harry chuckles and shrugs.

"Sure."

This is a horrible story.

"How long have you known each other?" Sophia asks. She seems nice, but I really wish she would stop asking questions. Mostly because there isn't a good answer in Harry's brain apparently but also because I feel bad that he has to lie to his friends.

"We met around the time school started," Harry says. Well, that's not a lie.

"Why is this the first time we're meeting her!"

"Well that's a question for Savannah I think," Harry says, tagging out. Apparently he's already out of lies. I shake my head slightly at him and he smirks, putting his arm around my shoulder. I slowly look back at Sophia and Liam, both waiting expectantly.

"Harry's just been keeping me all to himself," I venture, putting my hand on his leg.

"Trying to anyway," he says. Oh, so we're just throwing in the digs now, are we Harry?

"Savannah, you could totally be a model," Sophia says suddenly. I practically spit out my drink.

"What?"

"I'm serious! You've got a great body and long legs and you're gorgeous! You should make a portfolio and start auditioning, you would probably be really good at it. I could talk to my agent if you want."

"You're a model?"

"I am, it's so much fun. I actually live in Los Angeles, but I come here a lot of course. What do you do Savannah?"

"Oh I'm still in school." My eyes go wide when I realize what I just said. I nervously glance at Harry, who's mouth is slightly agape at the information I just revealed.

"What's your major?" Liam asks. College! Of course.

"Umm...law and psychology. Double major." Might as well make it sort of legit I guess.

"Really?" Harry asks. My eyes go wide at him and he shakes his head. "Right, sorry."

Thankfully we get off that topic and Harry does an excellent job at steering the conversation so that the other two don't ask any more questions about our relationship. I end up drinking two more drinks and after two hours we're all laughing hysterically. Everyone feeling tipsy, I'm sure.

"That wasn't me!" Harry defends when Liam finishes telling me a story. "That was Louis, remember? He walked straight into the screen door and ripped it right open," he elaborates.

"That reminds me of something someone did last night," I say. "Harry was a little bit uh..under the influence when he got home last night. He tried to walk into his apartment but the door was locked, so he walks straight into the it! It was so funny."

Liam and Sophia both start laughing again and Harry laughs a little was well. He shakes his head at me and I kiss his cheek as an I'm sorry. He gets a little embarrassed sometimes but it's really cute; his cheeks turn really slightly pink and he smiles enough that his left dimple shows through.

"Alright, let's get you home before you embarrass me anymore," Harry says, sliding out of the booth. He extends his hand and I take it, stumbling a little when I get out. I giggle and turn around to hug Sophia, who hands me her phone and tells me to put her number in it. I oblige and when I turn back to Harry after saying my goodbyes he doesn't look extremely pleased. We all walk out of the bar and Harry insists that we walk since neither of us are really in a driving state. We walk hand in hand down the street towards his building.

"Why'd you give her your number?" he asks after a few minutes of silence.

"I don't know," I shrug. "She's nice."

"Is it a good idea to spend time with her? What if she figures it out?"

"She's your friend, she wouldn't say anything."

"I don't know," he says nervously. I release his hand and wrap both my arms around his waist. His arm goes around my shoulders and he slides his other hand into his pocket.

"We'll be fine," I encourage. "You're looking pretty good tonight by the way."

I look up at him and he smiles. "You think so, do you?"

"Oh yeah. I like the teacher look, but this is pretty nice too. Casual suits you."

He chuckles. "How many drinks did you have tonight?"

"What? I'm not allowed to give you a compliment?"

"Oh, I welcome the compliments. Do you always get served without someone asking for ID? I admit, it was a little impressive. Although I do think it was because the bartender was into you. I didn't like that very much."

"You get paranoid when you drink, don't you," I tease. "I like your friends. They're nice."

"Yeah, I've known Liam for a long time," he says. "I was a little weary of Sophia at first. I thought maybe she was with him for the money but they've been together a long time and they really do seem to be in love."

"They're definitely in love," I agree. "You can see it."

"You can see it? You don't even know them."

"That doesn't matter. You can just tell when someone is in love. The way they look at each other. It's all about the eyes," I explain, pointing my two fingers back and forth between my eyes and his.

He laughs and we cross the street when we get in front of his building. He taps in the code for the door and holds it open for me. I take off and run up the stairs. He calls my name when he gets in the stairwell but I just laugh and keep running. When I get to the hallway I sprint to the end, looking over my shoulder as I turn the corner. He exits the stairway, laughing and chasing after me. I run all the way down to his door, leaning back against it to catch my breath when I get there. He turns the corner and slows to a walk, shaking his head at me as he gets close.

"You're crazy," he says laughing and pulling his keys out. He stands in front of me and waits for me to move, but I don't. "If you wouldn't mind." He makes a sweeping motion to the side and I stare up at him without moving.

"Password," I say simply.

"I have the key, I don't need a password," he says, jingling the keys in front of me. I keep staring at him and he sighs. "Fine. Umm...monkeys?"

"Why would it be monkeys?"

"I don't know! It was the first thing that came to my mind."

"You're strange."

"Can we go inside now?"

I shake my head and he sighs, looking up at the ceiling in annoyance. I giggle and he smirks when he looks back down at me. He takes a slow step towards me, pushing his body into mine. I raise my eyebrows and I can already feel my heart racing. He leans down torturously slow towards my face and after about three hours -what feels like it anyway- his lips are against mine. I instantly wrap my arms around his neck and he smiles against my mouth. He makes no attempt to deepen the kiss so I run my tongue along his lip. He pulls back and shakes his head.

"First we go inside," he says. I nod and he keeps one arm around me while he unlocks the door. He pushes it open and I jump into his arms, locking my ankles behind his waist to hold myself up. He kicks the door shut with his foot and carries me straight upstairs.

"What actually was the password?"

"I don't remember."

He laughs and throws me onto the bed. I crawl backwards and he follows me to the head of the bed, leaning down to kiss me as I lower my head onto the pillows. The bed is still a mess from when we were in it this morning, but it doesn't matter to me. Why fix it when we're just going to use it again, right?

After just a few minutes the kiss has gone beyond the limits of passionate and we're both breathing heavy and clothes are flying everywhere. I don't know if it's the alcohol making us both so desperate or what, but this is something we haven't really had before. Usually Harry doesn't have a very hard time controlling himself in these situations.

Normally I really wouldn't care about the first time I have sex with a guy, but for some reason now I do. I want my first time with Harry to be special and if that makes me a crazy female, then fine. I finally feel like I should expect something from him and I want it to be something that we both remember.

He abruptly pulls away and sits back on my waist. His jeans are unbuttoned, belt hanging loose and hair wildly messy from my fingers. He looks like he already had sex.

"This is going to sound crazy but...I can't do this." I can't help the worried expression on my face and he's quick to correct himself. "No! I mean I can, I just think we should wait."

I laugh a little and reach forward for his hands. "I was actually thinking the same thing."

"Really?" he asks, smiling down at me. I nod.

"I never thought of sex as a big deal before but now it seems to mean a lot and...I don't know. I don't make sense." I look away shyly but but lowers his body back onto mine and makes me look at him.

"You're allowed to expect something," he says, as if reading my thoughts. "You deserve a special night and that's why I stopped. I don't feel like it's just sex with us, either. It means something and I want you to feel like a princess."

My face turns pink from his words and I can't help but laugh a little at how sweet his is. He smiles as I reach up to put my hand against his cheek.

"How did I get so lucky?" I whisper, staring into his gorgeous green eyes.

"I was thinking the same thing."

"We're just completely in sync tonight," I joke. He laughs and turns his head to kiss my palm. "Do you want to watch a movie?"

"That sounds perfect."

He stands and changes into some more comfortable clothes. I take the t-shit I wore last night off the ground where I threw it earlier today. I walk downstairs before Harry, just wearing his shirt and my undergarments. I go to the kitchen and get a drink for each of us and put some popcorn in the microwave.

"You're so damn sexy," he says in my ear. I jump at his sudden and sneaky approach. He kisses down the side of my neck and slides his hands under my shirt. "You don't make it easy on me, do you?"

"That wouldn't be fun," I tease. He laughs and squeezes my hips once before releasing me and taking the drinks to the living room. I watch him walk away, the muscles in his back moving perfectly as he walks. His body is legitimate perfection and I think it's completely unfair. When the popcorn is done I join him on the couch, snuggling up with the popcorn on his lap. He picks a random comedy and puts a blanket over our legs.

"I really like having you here," he says quietly. I look up at him and he kisses my forehead.

"I like being here."

"Good, 'cuz otherwise I'd have to lock you in the closet or something."

I laugh and he does as well as he kisses my forehead again. It's crazy to think how short of a time we've actually known each other. I feel like we've been together for years. Not in a boring, no attraction anymore, know everything about each other kind of way. I just feel so comfortable with him, like our relationship is the most natural thing on the planet. Hidden away in his little apartment I feel like nothing could tear us apart.

What happens when we go outside?
