Make Me

On The Catwalks

Pulling up to the large venue, Justice was a bit in awe. None of the other tours she had been on had started at a stadium. The place was gigantic and only made her feel shorter than her five foot height as she walked towards the building. It was the morning before the show and she had decided to get a few pictures of the set-up, talk to the merch guys as they would probably end up being her closest allies, and learn the layout of the place for that nights photos.

After wandering the seats for a while, Justice decided to go have a look from the catwalks that hung above where the crowd would sit. It seemed like a great place to get some full group pics. Finding her way up was a bit difficult, there weren’t any signs pointing her in the right direction. Stopping near the dressing rooms, Justice caught a lighting engineer who was able to tell her how to get there.

As she passed the last dressing room, she heard warm laughter and knew that the boys were there. Smiling, she decided to pop in after checking out the catwalks. Above the stage on one of the sturdy catwalks, she couldn’t believe how perfect the spot would be. Grabbing out her camera from the black bag that hung across her torso, she snapped a few pics focusing on the stage for only a moment before turning her attention to the empty seats. The shutter clicked as a hand touched her shoulder, with a jump Justice nearly dropped her camera as she twisted to find a curly haired boy beside her.

“Sorry,” Harry said, holding his hands up where she could see them. “Didn’t mean to startle you.”

“It’s fine,” Justice replied, pulling her camera to her just to check that it was alright even though it had never left her hands. “But if my camera had been broken or dropped from here, you would have had hell to pay.”

“Guess I got lucky then.” His green eyes held a hint of humor as the sentence was double edged.

“Guess so.” Watching the boy carefully, Justice wondered if he really was like how the media portrayed him. So far, he was charming, and damn sexy, but he wasn’t too flirty. He just seemed like a nice guy. “Do you think you could do me a favor tonight?”

“Depends on what it is,” he stated, a hand grasping one of the steel rails on either side of the catwalk.

Trying her best sweet smile, she said, “Before you start the encore, could you look up to this catwalk and point?”

“That’s it?” Harry looked surprised, almost as if he had been hoping for something more exciting. “Just look and point?”

“Yeah,” Justice replied. Biting her lip she watched him nod.

“I can do that.” Turning his head to look at the empty seats, “Thought it was going to be more interesting though.”

“More interesting? Like what? A stage dive at exactly fifteen minutes in,” Justice laughed, it was a concert photo-op not really something that could be super exciting.

“No, I don’t know,” he mumbled with a hint of a chuckle lacing his deep voice. “Just something more interesting.”

“How ‘bout this,” Justice began, lightly smacking his shoulder, “When I think of something more interesting, you’ll be the first to know.”

“Really?” Raising an eyebrow, he glanced at the girl. “So I might just get to jump off cliffs yet.”

“Don’t count on it,” she mumbled, leaning against the railing. She almost wished she could do something like that again, but these were not the boys to have do. The risks outweighed the rewards.

“Something wrong, Love?” His voice brought her eyes to his plaid button up that was open to reveal the Ramones shirt he wore beneath it.

Justice wasn’t sure how to answer him; it wouldn’t be the best idea to tell him exactly why she wouldn’t be doing the dangerous shots. Still, she felt like he should get some answer. Moving her eyes to meet his green ones, she smiled weakly.

“Nothing more than usual,” she replied, before standing straight and starting her way down. “I just don’t like to do the same thing twice.”

Following her, Harry hurried to keep up as they approached the dressing rooms, chatting as they walked. From a door not far from them they could hear Louis’s infectious laughter. Clearly the boys were having fun, but instead of joining them Harry stopped Justice.

“Since I’m doing you a favor,” Harry began, a hand on her upper arm. “Think you could do me one?”

Skeptical, Justice thought about it for a moment. “Depends on what it is,” she replied mimicking his earlier response.

“I was just thinking you could owe me,” he stated, removing his hand from her arm like he had touched a stove and gotten burned.

Giving him a confused look, Justice asked, “Owe you what exactly?”

“I don’t know yet,” he answered, a hand running through his thick curly hair. As his eyes moved from her blue eyes to her feet and back he continued, “But I’ll think of something.”

Shooting her a flirtatious smile he joined the boys in the dressing room. Shocked, Justice felt glued to the floor. The boy had balls to even say she owed him one, let alone silently hint it would be a little more than friendly. She couldn’t remember the last guy to even look at her that way, let alone talk to her like that. Part of her was offended, but beneath that there was a part of her that liked it.

Shaking herself out of the thoughts, she started for the merch tables. She suddenly didn’t feel comfortable going in to see the boys. The merch area was near the front of the venue, and it took Justice a few minutes to get there from backstage. Two men were setting up the different items for sale as she approached them.

“Can I help you?” A man with dark hair asked as she stopped at the table.

“I’m Justice Linds, the tour photographer,” she replied, giving what she hoped was a warm smile.

“I’m Tyler Berge,” he said offering her a strong calloused hand. “I’m head of One Directions US tour Merch.”

“Do you mind if I get a few pictures?” She asked as she pulled her sleek black camera from her bag.

“Um,” Tyler hesitated looking over at the other guy who shrugged. “I guess, I mean I don’t know why you’d want to, but sure.”

“They want to do a book full of pics from this tour, or at least that’s what they told me,” Justice laughed as she snapped a few pictures of them setting up. “I think the fans might actually like the idea. I mean they’d get to see a bunch of backstage stuff and even stuff from the hotels and just the tour life. Plus I’m pretty sure there will be a dvd with it.”

“That’d be cool,” Tyler said as he taped a display CD case to the table. Clearly it was empty. “This is Adam by the way.”

“Hi,” the blonde man said with the typical guy nod. “Maria’s grabbing a couple boxes out from the trailer, if you want some pictures of that.”

“Oh, now that sounds like a good idea,” Justice replied with a smile before going out to the trailer to find a tall, leggy girl with bright dyed red hair.

Carrying a box out of the trailer into the bright afternoon sun the girl was surprised to see Justice with a camera. As a scowl crossed her face it was clear that she thought the worst; probably assuming that Justice was some paparazzi scum trying to catch anything on film.

“Maria,” Justice stated waiting for the girl to nod or respond in some way.

“Yeah, what the fuck do you want?” Setting the box down, she reveal a sleeve of ink.

“I’m Justice, the tour photographer,” Justice explained, pulling at the badge on her hip to show her that she was supposed to be there. The girl nodded and went back to what she had been doing as Justice snapped a few pictures.

Walking back in with Maria, she spent the next few hours helping and chatting with the merch team. They were all nice people, she found that Tyler was married and had an adorable little boy, Adam was a sweet heart with a boyfriend back home that he hoped would be able to come out to the show, and Maria was not as tough as she seemed. Looking like a biker bitch, she really just wanted to send out a message to her fellow merch peeps, the ones who thought girls weren’t cut out for it, ‘don’t fuck with me’.

By the time the show started, Justice was ready and waiting. Running from the small space between the fence and the stage to the catwalks, she really got a workout. By the time One Direction hit the stage, she already felt like her plain black tank and red jeans were soaked in sweat. Capturing images from a crouched position, she got fans hands reaching out to a couple of the boys and from side stage she got a few of Niall practically making love to the camera as he moved around and near the edge of the stage.

Running from there to the catwalk, she hoped she would make it in time for the encore as she left just as the last song hit mid time. Making the climb was crazy, but she made it just as the boys came back out to the stage. Positioning her camera, she focused on Harry as he looked up at the catwalk and blew a kiss. It was pure perfection as she snapped the picture and forever captured it on film.
