Overworked

Harry’s P.O.V
We’ve finally sorted out the house now. The kids go to school, Maddie has an office, and everything’s coming together now. I’m currently sat at home with the twins because the kids are at school and Maddie is sorting out her office and doing interviews. I started to clean up when one of the girls started crying. I went up to the nursery and sorted them out. I’m amazed at how Maddie does all this. She gets up during the night to sort out the babies and then she does the school run and goes off to work. She’s superwoman, my superwoman. Simon offered her a few concerts here in California in a few weeks and she took them because she wants to be able to sing again. The front door opened and I turned to look at it. “Hey,” Maddie kicked her shoes off.
“What’s the matter?” I walked over to her and kissed her cheek.
“I’m exhausted.” She put her bag down and sat on the sofa.
“Just go to sleep. I’ll go and get Lis. Brooke and Adam are gonna walk back with Sam and Kayleigh.” I told her.
“Alright, take the twins with you?” She turned to me.
“Okay, I’ll go out now to give you some peace.” I said and went to get the twins. I took them back down, put them in the car and said goodbye to Maddie. I pulled out of the driveway and drove around for a while until I had to pick Lis up. I got to her school and took the twins out of the car. I went to her classroom and she came out. “Hey, good day?” I asked taking her Hello Kitty backpack from her.
“Where’s mummy?” She replied. Nice to know she doesn’t want me here, but then again, she’s a proper mummy’s girl.
“Asleep baby so we’re going to Grandma’s house for a while okay?”
“Yeah,” she stayed close to me as we walked back to the car. I put the twins in and drove to Maddie’s parents’ house. We went up the path and Lis knocked on the door. Brooke opened it and I was surprised to see her. “Why are you here?” Lis voiced my thoughts. She’s good at doing that. Brooke just laughed.
“No reason, Grandma is in the kitchen.” Brooke replied and Lis ran to Gabrielle.
“Why are you really here?” I asked.
“Carl kicked me out.” She sighed.
“Why?”
“Because he’s convinced I’m cheating on him but I’m not. It’s just so annoying. I’ve been here for a few days now and he won’t let me anywhere near Aimee.” She told me.
“Well that’s shit. You can have Amelia and Freya instead if you want.” I laughed.
“No thanks. I want my baby, not my nieces.” Brooke answered.
“I’m sorry, I would speak to him but we can’t stand each other so it wouldn’t go down well.” I sat down with Freya and Amelia.
“Maddie hates him too, I don’t know why.” Brooke sat down and started playing with Amelia.
“Because he’s a prick, that’s why. You deserve so much better Brooke. Just like your sister does with me,”
“You two are perfect for each other and have been married for 11 years. I think she would have moved on by now if she wanted more.” Brooke pointed out.
“I didn’t really give her a choice. I got her pregnant 4 months in.”
“And she didn’t get rid which shows she really loves you. She wasn’t scared of the commitment with you.” She said and Lis came back in.
“Can we go back to Mummy now?” She bugged me. I know she wants to but I don’t want to piss Maddie off.
“No baby, Mummy is tired. Why don’t you play with Auntie Brooke?” I suggested and Brooke started playing with her. I left the twins on the sofa and went into the kitchen.
“Where’s Maddie?” Gabrielle asked.
“At home, asleep hopefully, she’s shattered.” I sat down across from her.
“Can’t you talk to her? She’s doing way too much. I don’t like it.”
“I’ve tried. She’s determined to do this.” I said.
“Well I can’t get through to her. Melissa just told me that she misses playing with Mummy. It’s just upsetting.”
“Maddie wanted this; she’s a grown woman Gabrielle. You need to stop worrying about her.” I said. Gabrielle really does need to stop worrying. She’ll drive herself mad.
“I know. She’s still my daughter though. I miss seeing her. Brooklyn was asking me to get her to spend more time with you guys. Her kids miss her, surely you miss her.”
“I see her every day. The kids are mainly in bed when Maddie gets home but we have a few hours together before we go to sleep. The kids only see her when she takes them to school but that’s not my fault and there’s nothing I can do about it. I don’t control her just like she doesn’t control me.” I reminded Gabrielle.
“I know, I know. You should take Melissa home though. She wants to see Maddie.”
“Yeah I will. I’ll see you soon. Stop worrying.” I stood up. “Come on trouble. We’re going home.” I said to Lis and picked up the twins.
“Yay!” She cheered and I laughed.
“I hope everything is okay again soon. Bye Brooke.” I said and we left. Lis got into the car and I put the twins in and we went home. Brooke and Adam were home already playing a game on the Xbox. I put the twins down on the floor and they played with their toys. Lis ran upstairs and I could just see Maddie being pissed off with me later. A few minutes later, Lis and a shattered Maddie came downstairs.
“Thanks a lot.” She spat and went down to the basement with Lis.
“You’re in troubleeeee…” Adam said.
“I know,” I sighed and sat down.
“I miss playing with Mum. She never has any time for us anymore.” Brooklyn said and sat down next to me.
“She’s just busy at work at the moment. It will get better.” I reassured her and made dinner. Maddie took that as a perfect opportunity to go back upstairs. We ate dinner and then Lis went to bed and I took the twins up to the nursery. I went into the bedroom and Maddie was asleep. I went back to Brooke and Adam and they went to do their homework so I decided to go into the gym. After an hour, Maddie came into the room. “Hey,” I stopped hitting the punching bag and stilled it.
“Hi,” she replied grumpily.
“I’m sorry that Lis woke you up earlier. The kids just miss their mum.” I told her.
“I can’t help that. I’ve got no more time.” She said and went back into the bedroom. I growled and punched the bag repeatedly. This side of Maddie pisses me off so much. She’s meant to care but at the moment she’s just looking out for herself. I stopped punching the bag and ripped the tape from my hands and went into the bedroom. Maddie was lying awake in bed on her phone. I took some boxers out of the drawer and went down to the basement. If Maddie thinks I’m sleeping in the same bed as her tonight she’s got another think coming. I got ready for bed and got into one of the spare beds. I had been lying there for a while when I heard footsteps and Maddie walked into the room. “What the fuck?” She said.
“I’m not sleeping in our bed tonight. Go and sleep.” I told her.
“Why not?” Because you’re being a bitch. That is what ran through my mind. The next thing I knew Maddie was slapping me. I must have said that out loud. “You know what? You can stay down here. Just piss off Harry.” She said and stormed out of the room. I got out of bed to follow her but decided against it and put my clothes on instead. I heard a car speed off. Fuck Maddie! Whenever something gets tough you run! I went upstairs and Lis came down wiping her eyes.
“What’s the matter?” I asked her.
“Where’s mummy gone?” She said.
“Out, why?”
“I heard her car. It woke me up.” She replied and turned back to the stairs.
“Lis, I love you.” I told her.
“I love you too.” She mumbled and walked up the stairs. I went back down to the basement and went to sleep.
