Black Lace

Chapter 8

Alana let out a frustrated sigh, as she checked through the contents of the paper she was holding. She could feel an ache building in her temples, so she leant back against her chair and closed her eyes. The face she saw behind her closed lids frustrated her even more.

She let out a small groan, before getting up from her chair and making her way out of the office. The customers were browsing through the flowers in the shop and Alana knew that she wouldn't be able to socialize or communicate well with any of them in this state. So, she decided to head out and get some fresh air.

Alana headed towards the small cafe she always sat in when she needed to think. As she ordered a latte, she had a feeling that she was being watched. She turned slowly and discreetly, only to catch a good looking man stare at her. When their eyes locked, the man merely gave her a lopsided smile, taking Alana's breath away.

Alana realized that she was staring open-mouthed at the beautiful man, so she tore her eyes away and took a seat. She took her phone out and contemplated on how to get out of all the mess that she had made of her life. Her hand itched to hit the dial button of her phone, but a strong sense of independence stopped her.

Would it look stupid to make the call? It wasn't like she actually needed something. She knew she wasn't in the worst of situations and that she would get out of it if she just sorted things out, but it still winded her gears to accept that she had given in to blackmail.

And it winded her gears even more when she accepted the fact that she missed Louis. Why, when they just knew each other for a few days? She wasn't sure. But she did. Maybe it was because of the way he had made love to her four nights ago; the night she had signed her fate.
It had been full of passion and, what Alana could only describe as, an insatiable craving.

The morning after when he had announced that he was leaving for America to attend an album signing, she had been surprisingly thwarted. And what was worse was the fact that he had noticed it; commenting and smirking at the pout her lips had made involuntarily after he had told her.

He had mentioned that he would be back soon and when he did, he would consummate their deal properly. However, she wasn't sure if this 'soon' was a week or a month later. The thought of him returning and taking her straight to bed brought a blush to her face. She looked around as though someone would notice her thinking these dirty thoughts.

As she checked, Alana's eyes again locked with a pair of grey ones. It was the same beautiful man who had been staring at her a few minutes ago. He was sitting in one of the tables across from hers, and even though he was probably a few feet away, Alana felt uncomfortable.

The man had dark messy hair and a light stubble splattering his cheek. He looked as though he was in his mid 30's. He was what you would call, rakishly handsome and it did wonders to his face when he gave Alana another one of his sexy lopsided smiles, oozing complete charm.

Alana knew better than to return the smile as her cheeks turned red at the way he was staring at her; stripping her naked with his eyes. She looked away once more and concentrated on the phone call she was supposed to make. She took out a paper napkin from the stand and decided to jot down the pros and cons of making that phone call.

As she jotted down some points, she felt a presence hover over her and looked up to see who it was. She almost stopped breathing when she realized that it was the same man with the grey eyes.

"Hello!" The man greeted with a strong accent, indicating that he was not from here.

"Umm- Hi?" Alana replied, confused. For some odd reason, she felt like something was off about him.

"Do you mind if I sit down?" His forwardness caught Alana off guard.

"Umm- actually I was just leaving." Alana meant to grab her bag, as nerves overwhelmed her, but the stranger with the grey eyes spoke before she could walk away.

"Look- don’t leave. It's just...I've been watching you since you came here and haven't been able to tear my eyes away."

Alana turned another shade of red and gawked at how beautiful the man looked as he took the seat in front of her. Alana licked her dry lips before pulling herself together.

"Umm- As flattered as I am by your words, I umm....can't...umm...I’m not." Alana shrugged her shoulder, indicating she didn't have the right words to describe her current situation.

"Oh." The stranger's beautiful lips formed into an 'o'. His smile had fallen and it had been replaced by disappointment. "Lesbian?"

"What?" Alana covered her mouth and giggled at his assumptions before continuing. "No! Of course not! I mean I'm not intolerant to it but…I’m not into women."

"That means it's not a total....umm...what do you call it in English....hopeless case! Right! It's not completely hopeless." The man gave Alana another one of his cheeky smiles, making her smile despite her previous assumptions.

"Uh! She smiles! Angelo Doukas, by the way!" The man introduced himself, extending his hand for Alana to take.

"Alana Morrison." She greeted giving his hand a firm shake and a polite smile.

"So, what brings such a beautiful lady to a small cafe like this? You should be exhibited in the museum!" Angelo flirted with a thick accent; biting down on his lips and making Alana mentally fan herself at how sexy he looked.

"Really? Museum?" Alana couldn't stop herself from raising an eyebrow and chuckling at his words.

"Ah- Cheesy, I know. Just that I haven't gotten a hang of the English language and culture yet."

"Well! That makes the two of us!" Alana smiled warmly, trying to make him comfortable about his weakness.

"I knew you sounded different. America?"

Alana nodded her head before answering, "New York. And you?"

"Ioannina, Greece." The man smiled with pride, making Alana miss New York badly. She felt her heart lurch at the thought of everything she had left behind.

"Where is that?" Alana asked and took a gulp of her coffee, before she could make a fool out of herself in front of this beautiful stranger by weeping like a child just cause she felt home sick all of a sudden.

"It's in the northern side of Greece. It's beautiful during the night. You should visit."

"I will, maybe. In a few years’ time." Alana replied, non-committed.

"Anything holding you back now? A job? A boyfriend?" Angelo asked, giving her a curious frown.

"Not really." Alana gave him a small smile before continuing. "It's a little complicated than that."

"So, I'm assuming you're single?"

"Not exactly." Alana let out a fake chuckle, squirming in her seat.

"A husband?" The man pushed, making Alana even more uncomfortable.

"Umm- no. Look, like I said, it's complicated. I'd rather no-"

"A lover then?" The man persisted, a serious look on his face now.

Alana let out a gasp at how rude this man was beginning to sound. Alana lost her temper and decided to put the man in his place.

"Look, Mr. Do-"

"Louis Tomlinson?"

Alana stopped in mid sentence and her jaw dropped. Her eyes widened in realization at the evil smirk that now adorned the beautiful man's face. He wasn't just any random stranger and this meeting was no coincidence. Angelo Doukas was part of the media and he had planned this out from the beginning.

Alana quickly grabbed her handbag and was about to run but the man was faster than her. He grabbed her hand with a death-grip before she could run.

"Don't you dare!" The man whispered, grinding his teeth together and looking at Alana with anger in his eyes.

"Let go of me or I'll scream!" Alana threatened trying to pull her hand out of his grasp. She looked around in panic to see if anybody had noticed her struggle.

"You won't!" The man spoke again, making her turn to look at the change in his voice. His face had been masked back to the cheeky smile as he continued, "Unless you want the entire world to know about your shop?"

Alana stopped struggling and looked at Angelo in complete confusion. How in the world did he know about the shop?

"That's right, agapi mou. I know everything. See, I'm not just any dumb reporter. I work for a well-known paper and hold a very important position there. And this position forces me to get to know my target as thoroughly as possible." The man informed with a fake charm, as he traced circles in Alana's wrist like a lover would. "So, I suggest you sit down before you draw attention to both o-"

"Is there a problem here?" An elderly man with grey hair interrupted, staring steadily at the way Angelo was still holding her wrist. The elderly man looked from Angelo's fake smile to Alana's distressed face before looking back at the way Angelo still held her hand.

"No problem at all, Sir. Just a lover's trifle. Isn't that right, agapi mou?" Angelo gave her a meaningful look, making Alana's hand turn clammy. She could feel her whole body turn cold at the realization of what was happening to her.

"Y-yes." Alana forced herself to smile and looked at the elderly man as she continued. "We j- just had an argument and he was j-just making up."

"You sure?" The elderly man asked, looking once again at Alana with curious eyes.

"Very!" Alana smiled too brightly before patting Angelo's hand like a lover. "Thank you for your concern, Sir. It's good to know there are still good p- people out there."

This convinced the man and he smiled before acknowledging the two of them and walking away. Alana sat back down and looked at the man across the table with hateful eyes.

"What do you want?" Alana asked, straightforward. It was better to know his intentions before he could further exploit her.

"Louis Tomlinson."

"The one from that boy band?" Alana tried to feign stupidity.

Angelo chuckled at her attempt before replying, "Don't try to play dumb with me, agapi mou. Both you and I know who we're talking about."

Alana gulped when she realized that her plan had been a failure. She hadn't expected it to be a hit but it was better than telling him the truth.

"Alright, fine. Louis Tomlinson happens to buy flowers from my store regularly. Happy?"

The Greek shook his head as he said, "I figured you'd be a tough one. So, what's your price? 500? 1K?"

"Excuse me?"

"Your price for your confidence, sweetheart. Pretty sure you're not that dumb, regardless of the hair."

"You're right. I do have a price."

"Now we're talking. Name it!" Angelo's smug face irritated Alana beyond imagination.

"Do you have a paper and pen on you? I prefer writing it down. I don't feel very comfortable discussing this so openly."

"Yes, of course. Here you go. Just write down your amount and I'll get in touch with you once I have the money with me."

Alana took the paper and jotted down before folding it twice and handing it to Angelo. She grabbed her bag and got up to leave, making him stand up as well.

"I'll be in touch. Till then...here's my card." Alana took the card, nodded her head and walked back to her shop.

Itching with curiosity, Angelo opened the small paper, only to be left dumbfounded. Alana had asked Angelo very politely and in a very neat handwriting to shove his price where the sun didn't shine. Despite the insult, Angelo started chuckling and took out his phone.

'Passed. Surprisingly smart for a blonde.' He texted and sent it to his boss, the smile still in place. As he was about to leave, his eyes landed on a white sheet of paper, and on it was a bit of scribbling.

He picked it up only to realize that it was a paper napkin and Alana had been in the process of writing something when he had interrupted her. Chuckling at the contents, he took out his phone and texted his boss once more.

'Guess she does need a little training. Found something you'll like.'

Louis frowned at his phone and lounged back on the seat of the private jet and looked out of the window.

"Something bothering you?" Zayn asked, from the seat next to him.

"No." Louis replied, without looking away from the beautiful view of the sun setting.

"Is it her?" Zayn tried once more, trying to get Louis to open up. He had been a little disturbed throughout the trip and it was getting irritating now. Being upset was one thing but sulking the way Louis had been throughout had really gotten to the boys, considering he was the one who always kept the mood light.

"Louis, for crying out loud, will you please tell us what's wrong?" Harry asked, from behind.

Louis looked at the two of them with a frown before speaking, "I need a stylist."

"Huh?"

"A what?"

The two boys replied simultaneously, looking at Louis in complete confusion at his random demand.

"A stylist. One who can do an entire makeover."

"You're upset cause you need a stylist?" Zayn raised his eyebrow and looked at Louis as though he had gone mad.

"Your hair looks fine to me!" Harry commented, pulling at the fringes of Louis' hair. Louis replied by slapping his hand away in irritation.

"Not for me. It's for someone else." Louis answered, biting his lip and wondering for the thousandth time if he had made the right decision.
