Chapter 18

Chapter Playlist: Hello Change by Charity Vance

The hotel suite was filled with people and Alana felt increasingly claustrophobic. On one side of the main room, Preston was giving orders to Louis’ security team, who decided to show up after the entire incident had been dealt with. On the other side of the room, one of Louis’ lawyers was busy talking to the hotel manager.Alana pushed away the tray of food that was put infront of her and decided to go wash her face instead. Just as she slid the door open to the bedroom, she noticed Louis stop mid-sentence of saying something. She realized that he was in a telephone conversation, and indicated to him that she needed to use the bathroom. When he nodded his head, Alana quickly walked into the bathroom, shut the door and turned on the tap. She pretended to busy herself and tried to listen in on his phone call.

“I know, Simon. I just lost my head….I know….She is nobody...you don't need to worry about her… Yeah…No way...No modest…..I'll handle it on my own...Did they get any picture of her? Oh, thank God!.......Yeah… okay...yeah. I know, I'll take someone else to the party...okay. Bye.”

Alana was too paralyzed to move after hearing him finish his phone call, and stood infront of the sink as she let the heaviness in her chest overwhelm her. Louis made another phone call, but she didn't want to listen anymore. I guess that's what you get for eavesdropping…the bitter truth.

She was really a nobody; so why did it hurt so much to hear it coming from him? Simon Cowell really had nothing to worry about with Alana, after all she was just another notch in Louis' bedpost. A notch who was indebted to Louis for a mistake she had not even committed. She's paying retribution for someone who doesn't even know what she was going through.

What was it about a party that he had mentioned to Simon? About taking someone else? Had the paparazzi been right in suggesting that Eleanor was a threat to her? Or was there another woman Louis was seeing while sleeping around with her? Is that why he didn't want her pictures printed in the gossip columns?

The thought left a bitter taste in her mouth. She didn't want to be his other woman. She didn't want to be his anything, quite frankly. Maybe he'll call it quits now that he was facing PR problems by her presence in his life.

Alana heard Louis finish his call, but she didn't want to see his face; she was too angry to think straight. She turned on the shower and without removing any piece of clothing, she dived under the jet of the water. Alana heard Louis slide open the bedroom door and then slide it closed. She felt her heart break just a little more when she realized that Louis wouldn't knock the door to check if she was alright. Why did she think he would, to begin with?

Finishing her shower, Alana wrapped herself in the robe that was hanging by the shower and walked out of the bathroom. The voices had lowered down, so she peeped out through the sliding doors to find that everyone, other than two security guards, had left. Louis had left, without even saying a word to her.

She laid down in bed, as the jet lag and exhaustion finally took over her body. The last thing she remembered before she was woken up was Louis chasing after her with a camera and a flower wreath.

Alana felt the mattress sink from someone’s weight before she could open her eyes to check who it was. She instantly recognized Louis’ cologne, and relaxed a little. However, his cologne was mixed with something else. Something she couldn't quite put a finger on with the groggy state of her mind.

“Babe..you awake?” She heard him slur out and realized from his breath that he had been drinking.

She continued breathing heavily without opening her eye. Alana was confused by his state and was still a little scatterbrained from the nightmare. Getting drunk was what had initially landed her on his bed to begin with and she swore off of alcohol ever since.

“Babe?” Louis shook her shoulder slightly to see if she would move, but when Alana remained silent, he plumped down onto the other side of the bed. Alana continued on with her pretense until she heard his heavy breathing turn to soft snores.

Why was he trying to wake her up? Did he want her to go sleep elsewhere? He had strictly mentioned it in the contract that she was not to sleep overnight at his place. Even though they were not technically at his place, Louis was still paying for the suite. So, maybe he was expecting her to sleep on the couch?

Alana waited for what felt like half an hour before moving an inch of her body, just so that he would not wake up. She slowly got up from the bed and grabbed her pillow, but something made her turn back to look at him. He hadn't even taken off his shoes, Alana realized.

And despite his ignorance towards her, Alana found herself opening his shoes, loosening his jacket, and tucking him in. She heard him snore gently and with a heavy heart, she grabbed her pillow. Walking out of the bedroom, Alana laid down on the sofa with her pillow and drifted off to sleep once more.
