Bored and Broken

Thirty Four

Adison's POV

I didn't think Harry was going to make this such a big deal. We have only been together for a month, after all. I guess considering all the stuff that's happened and all the disapproval we've gotten, it kind of makes sense to celebrate. But I did not expect this.

Harry stands behind me with his hands around my waist as I stare at the scene in front of me. The place looks the same as it normally would, but there is no one else here. It's completely silent. Instead of the rink being completely empty though, there's a table in the very centre of it. Right under the disco ball. It's a small table, just big enough for two and looking even smaller in the centre of the massive skate floor. There's a few deep red roses in the middle of it and there's a few candles as well. There's also a bunch of candles surrounding the table; not a perfect ring, just scattered to create a sort of barrier. They probably extend a few meters away from the table.

Suddenly a boy appears in front of me, dressed in a tux with a napkin draped over his arm. Just like in the movies. He looks to be closer to our age, maybe a year or two older. He probably works here.

"Follow me," he says politely. I look up at Harry and he smiles warmly at me, putting one hand on the small of my back and gently pushing me in the direction of the guy. I follow the usher over to the table, my heels clicking loudly when we walk across the wood floor.

"I can't believe you did this," I tell Harry quietly, still marvelling a little at how cute this all is.

"I wanted to," he says. I reach behind me to his hand on my back, instead lacing our fingers together.

"It's amazing."

He smiles widely and brings his hand up to kiss my knuckles. We walk through a small opening in the ring of candles and the guy gestures to the table. Harry releases my hand and walks to one chair, pulling it out and waiting for me to sit in it. I smile bashfully and tuck my dress under as I sit down. Harry pushes my chair in a bit and walks around to the other side of the table. I suddenly realize that this is probably the first date we've actually been on. We've never been out for dinner or anything just with the two of us. I don't know why...we could easily hang out without Anne thinking it's a date. I guess we just never have. Not that I'm complaining; I wouldn't change any of the time we spend together.

"The food will be ready shortly," he tells us once we're seated. "What would you like to drink?"

"Lemonade please," I tell him. Harry says he'll have the same and he nods once before walking over to the snack bar. I turn back to Harry and lean forward with my elbows on the table. "How did you pull this off?"

He shrugs like it's not a big deal. "The boys helped me. They don't exactly have a gourmet kitchen here, though. Dinner isn't going to be very fancy." He looks a little sad about that and I reach across the table to take his hand.

"That sounds perfect." I smile and his eyes light up, a crooked smile decorating his features. "This is all so pretty. I can't believe it. No one has ever done something like this for me before," I tell Harry, looking around a little.

"You deserve it. I don't want you to feel like I take you for granted. We haven't been out really so I wanted to do something special."

"It's amazing."

"I'm glad you like it," he says.

"Are we having burgers?" I ask quickly. "I could really go for a burger."

He chuckles and leans forward closer to me. "Actually, we are."

The guy from before comes and deposits our drinks on the table without a word. The lights go down a bit and some music starts playing softly. I really can't believe he did this. I also don't understand how he did this since we just finished exams and I was basically with him all day today. Doesn't matter, though. I just love that he put so much effort into this night. Really it shouldn't be a big deal, but Harry is taking it as an opportunity to treat me like a princess.

We chat about random things, laughing of course a lot. Harry's sense of humour is different than most, but no one has ever been able to make me laugh the way he can. His eyes seems to light up every time I laugh. It's crazy how special he makes me feel; he hangs on my every word and I've never felt so cared for and...cherished. There's no other word for it. It's so hard to believe we've only been together for a month.

"So, who is that guy?" I ask, looking at the snack bar where the guy is preparing our food.

"He works here. He didn't really want to be here but I said I'd pay him extra. His name is Shawn. He seems cool."

"Does he go to our school? He seems familiar."

"I think he did. Graduated last year or the one before that. So my mum was asking me about your house the other day," he says carefully, leaning forward on his elbows and fiddling with the ring I gave him for Christmas. I nervously twirl the ring on my own finger as thoughts of my mother enter my mind.

"Yeah?" I ask quietly. He nods.

"She's not sure how to talk to you abut it. I guess she's wondering what you want to do with it."

I look down at the candles in front of me and focus on the flame like it;s the most interesting thing in the world. I run my finger over it a few times, getting closer and closer to it each time. Going through my mom's house was really hard. I finished up with it over the last few weeks; it kind of became a stress reliever I guess. Now that it's done, though I feel really weird about selling it. It feels wrong somehow, even though I know I probably won't ever want to live there again and my mom isn't coming back. It's still her house and I just can't imagine not being able to go back there.

Lost in my thoughts and not really paying attention any more, my hand movements get slower as I get lower and lower to the candle. I'm not even really looking at it at this point.

"Ouch," I hiss. My finger grazed over the burning wick of the candle and I quickly pull it back to examine the skin.

"Shit," Harry mutters. He stands and walks around the table. He kneels beside my chair and gently takes my hand in his. He uncurls my fingers and examines my pointer, the one I burnt so stupidly. He carefully looks at it and I just now notice how handsome he looks. His blazer has purple accents and his necklaces are hidden under the thin fabric of his t-shirt. I could stare at Harry all the time if it wasn't so creepy. He's just got the kind of face that makes you never want to look away. He brings my finger to his lips and kisses it softly. I smile and raise my other hand to his face, brushing my fingers along his jawline and cheek. He looks up at me and I trace my hand gently over his face.

"I'm sorry I brought it up," he says quietly, eyes closing briefly when my thumb traces along his bottom lip.

"It's fine," I console. He kisses my hand a few more times before I remove it from his grip and place both on either side of his face. He looks up at me and I lean forward to kiss him. He puts his hands on my legs and shuffles closer on his knees to deepen our kiss. I slowly break it and pick his lips once before separating our faces so I can look into his eyes. He takes a deep breath.

"Are you okay?" he asks quietly. I nod a few times and he smiles apologetically. "I'm sorry."

"Stop apologizing, I'm fine."

Shawn awkwardly clears his throat behind me and Harry glances over my shoulder. He stands up and kisses me quickly before walking back to his chair as Shawn places a plate in front of each of us. I giggle a little at the presentation; it's classic rink food but it's on large and fancy plates. There's fancy garnish with everything and it looks like our burgers were made in a little bistro instead of here at the rink.

"Thanks Shawn," Harry says. He smiles half-heartedly at us before walking back.

"I really don't think he wants to be here," I say quietly, laughing a little. Harry agrees and I waste no time digging into my meal. Sometimes all you need is a little bit of greasy food to feel better, you know? It tastes so good, although I can't even imagine how many calories are in this. Harry chuckles a little as I shovel a huge bite into my mouth.

"What?" I ask, my mouth full of food and my face turning a little red.

"Nothing. I lo-" He stops and clamps his mouth shut. I furrow my eyebrows and he clears his throat nervously. "You look hungry."

"I am," I say slowly, examining his face. He looks really nervous, like he was just about to spill some huge secret he wasn't supposed to tell me. I lift my burger and speak before taking another bite. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah," he says. He smiles and starts eating his food. He quickly changes the topic of conversation to some crazy story about something he did with Niall once. I swear, the things these boys get themselves into...it's a wonder they haven't been kicked out of school or something. I'm completely stuffed by the time my plate is almost empty. Harry polishes his off without having to try, also finishing up the fries I was unable to eat.

"Are you ever not hungry?" I ask. He shrugs.

"I'm a growing man," he says proudly. I just laugh and shake my head. Shawn quickly comes to clear our plates and Harry stands and brings his chair around the table so he's closer to me.

"Have you ever roller skated?" Harry asks, taking my hand and fiddling with my fingers in his lap. I shake my head, no. I really hope he's not going to make me try. I can imagine it'll be even more of a disaster than ice skating. Plus, I'm wearing a dress. He smiles and looks over at Shawn as he approaches with a massive piece of cake. There's a sparkler on the top of it and I can't help but smile as I watch him set it on the table between us.

"You went all out, didn't you?" I ask, smiling at Harry. He lifts my hand to his lips and leans forward to hand me a fork. "I don't know if I can eat another bite."

"This is the best cake ever, you have to at least try it." He cuts off a piece and slides it onto his fork, but starts moving it towards my mouth instead of his own. My face flushes and he notices obviously. He smirks at me.

"I can feed myself," I tell him. He laughs a little.

"I know, babe. But this is supposed to be romantic. They do it in the movies all the time."

"Why? I feel like a baby."

He rolls his eyes. "Just open your mouth."

"So romantic," I tease. He shakes his head and moves the fork closer. Alright, if he's so intent on this. I open my mouth and he puts the bite in my mouth. He pulls the fork out and I moan at how good the cake tastes. It's amazing. So decadent, like fudge. It's the best cake I've ever tasted.

"If you make that sound again I'm going to have to take you home," he says quietly, leaning close to me. My face flushes and he smirks at me, chuckling a little. "My turn."

I raise my eyebrows and he opens his mouth, waiting for me to do what he did to me. I just laugh and use the fork in my hand to get a piece of cake for him. The piece is huge, though and it barely fits in his mouth. I laugh and he attempts to chew it, while shaking his head. I wipe the fork across his lips, an action he takes as being helpful. Really, I just got more icing on his face. There's chocolate all over his lips and he continues chewing with effort.

I giggle and he puts his hands on his legs, shaking his head at me before finally swallowing the dessert.

"You're trouble," he says. I continue laughing and he wipes the corners of his mouth, cluing into how much icing is still on his face. He gets a mischievous look on his face and he puts his hands on either side of my face as he stands from his chair. I try to protest but he silences me with his lips, playfully and purposely being sloppy so he spreads the chocolate around. After a moment of my laughing he just kisses me, the taste of chocolate on both our tongues. I wrap my arms around his neck and he lifts me from my chair, wrapping both his arms around my waist. He breaks the kiss and I look down at his lips.

"You got the chocolate there, you should be the one to get it off," he suggests. I lick the chocolate from my own lips and he watches the action carefully. I then proceed to do as he requested, kissing all over and around his mouth to suck the chocolate off his face. He laughs and sets me on the ground after a minute.

"It's still there," I inform him as I continue to laugh a little. I pick up a napkin and wipe his mouth for him. He stares down at me adoringly and when I'm done he does the same for me. We're being ridiculously corny right now, but I don't even care. I love it. He tosses the napkin on the table and takes my hand, leading me around the table and out of the pathway.

"We're leaving?" I ask quietly. The disappointment is clear in my voice and she shakes his head, curls moving with the motion.

"We're going to skate now," he informs me. Here we go.

"I'm in a dress," I try to argue.

"There's no one else here," he reminds me. "Doesn't matter. Don't try to get out of this because unfortunately you don't have a choice."

"Wow."

He laughs and leads me to the counter. Shawn comes and gives us each a pair of skates to use. Harry helps me tie mine and when he stands I take a deep breath. I don't have a way out of this. It helps that we're the only ones. He nods to Shawn and after a few seconds the lights go out and the disco ball lights up. Music starts playing loudly and Harry takes my hands. I let him pull me onto the wooden floor.

"You're good at this too, aren't you?" I ask, semi annoyed and partially impressed. He's just a flawless person and it's so annoying sometimes!

"Of course," he says playfully, winking at me. I roll my eyes and stay still as he takes both my hands and pulls me along, skating backwards in front of me like when we skated before Christmas.

"I feel like we're in the eighties, minus the bad music and flashy outfits," I joke. He laughs and nods in agreement.

"I was going to tell you to dress in like a neon outfit or something, but I thought that me going overboard a little."

"A little," I agree.

"Are you going to try to skate at all?" he asks, smiling at me. I look down at my feet and debate if I should try.

"If I wake up with a bruised tailbone like last time I'm not going to be happy," I inform him. He laughs and slowly releases his grip on my hands, still extending his a little just in case I start to fall. I hold mine out beside me for balance and slowly propel myself forward with my right foot. This is a little easier than skating; I feel much more stable. The corner, however, proves to be a challenge. Harry manages to catch me before I can fall.

"It amazes me that you can look so flawless but be so uncoordinated," Harry says. I blush at the complimenting part of that sentence and narrow my eyes in response to the second part. Even though it's completely true.

"I'm not sure how to feel about that statement," I respond honestly. He laughs.

"It was supposed to be a compliment."

"Well it was well disguised."

We skate in silence for a few minutes and I watch Harry's feet the whole time, mesmerized by how easy he makes this look. My feet barely move and I feel unstable.

"Ads, can I ask you something?" I nod without looking up. "I umm...sort of did something else for tonight."

I look back up at his face and he looks nervous. Really nervous. Our pace has slowed noticeable and Harry shifts his hands in mine, now holding the upright and lacing our fingers together.

"What else?" I ask quietly. He shyly meets me eyes and I see him swallow nervously.

"I uh...I got us a hotel room."

My stomach jumps into my mouth and he gets a panicked look on his face. Why would he..does he think we're...is that why he did all of this for me?

"How?" I croak. You have to be eighteen to book a hotel room.

"Gemma did it for me," he explains.

"Harry..." I trail.

"It's not for...that," he says carefully. I sigh a little in relief. "Just so we can spend more time together. We have to be out of here by eleven and like you said, our actually anniversary isn't until after midnight." He smiles and I laugh nervously. I don't want this night to be over, not at all. We've slept in the same bed plenty of times before, but this feels different. A hotel room...implies things. I'm not sure if I'm ready for all of that.

"You don't want to," he concludes quietly.

"No, it's not that," I argue, shaking my head. We have no stopped skating so I put my hands behind his neck.

"I feel like a dick just assuming that you'll want to but I just wanted to have it in case. I'm doing it so you'll sleep with me, I know you're not ready. I just thought-"

"Harry," I interrupt, laughing at how uneasy he is right now. He closes his eyes briefly and takes a deep breath. "I don't want this night to end." My voice is quiet and his eyes are now searching mine for an indication as to what I mean. Honestly, I have no idea what's going to happen tonight. All I know is I don't want to have to go back home and end this perfect night.

"You want to go?" Harry asks, smiling at me. I nod and he wraps his arms around me, hugging me and spinning me around. I wrap my legs around him and he starts skating again, like I weight nothing at all.

"Let's skate a little more," he suggests. I nod and he starts to lower me down, still moving faster than I'm comfortable with.

"Harry," I warn, tightening my grip in him. He chuckles and slows down as my feet touch the floor. He skates beside me this time and we continue talking about random things for while as we go in slow circles. Thinking about the rest of the night makes me nervous, but in a really good way. I'm not sure where this is going to go tonight, but Harry is so incredible that I don't think anything could spoil it. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I guess we'll see how it goes.
