As Fragile as Glass
Chapter 1
I sat in the chair staring at my parents graves as I tuned out the preacher who was finishing up. I couldn't believe they were gone. They were killed in a hit and run. The police never caught the asshole who killed them. Thanks to the person who killed my parents I was alone in the world. I had nowhere to go. The government was putting me in a foster home because I was seventeen and I have no relatives. They were all dead. I knew foster care would only be for 3 months which was when I turned eighteen but still. It was stupid. I watched as everyone got up and I went over to the end of the tent where everyone would come give me meaningless condolences. I stood there until everyone left. I saw the Child Services woman standing by her car waiting on me patiently. She was quite nice so I knew she would wait a few more minutes while I said goodbye to my parents. I turned around and walked over to their graves. I dropped to my knees not even caring that I was ruining my dress and the tears I had been holding in all day came out.
I just sat there crying and said,"Why did you have to go? Why did you just leave me here? I need you. I miss you so much. Bye Mom. Bye Dad."
I probably looked crazy but I didn't care.
All of a sudden I heard a voice behind me say,"Summer?"
I turned around and saw a man who looked to be in his early twenties. How did he know my name? I studied him. He had brown hair and brown eyes. He looked kinda familiar. Honestly he looked a lot like... I gasped.
"Liam?"
