You're Not Stubborn

I was wrong, I take it back
Now can we get along, give up the slack
You know it all could be much easier
But I'm still travelling, I'm still travelling

Harry’s POV

I sat in silence while everyone was getting to know Scarlett, scrolling through my phone. Text after text came from Kendall and I ignored them all, more focused on the task at hand. I could tell I was being a little weird, normally I was more talkative, but this was more important right now.

Even though I hadn’t been physically responsible for the ruining of Scarlett’s coat, I still felt as though I had owed her one. It was her first day, marred by the spilling of coffee on her. The least I could do was replace it for her. On occasion, I would glance her, trying to learn as much as I could about her in such a short time. It didn’t seem as though I was paying attention, but I heard every word.

Ah, Burberry,” I thought to myself. Every girl had to love a good coat, at least every proper one. And Scarlett was definitely a proper girl. She seemed like the kind of girl who planned her day down to the second, and a little mishap like this morning would set her off schedule. Even after she changed into her band t-shirt and blazer, she seemed so polished. Perhaps she was just being reserved because she just met us, who knows, but I was a pretty good judge of character.

“Earth to Haz, plan on joining us today are you going on another lunch date with Kendall?” Louis’ voice called out, interrupting my thoughts. I quickly shook my head and finished up my order, trying to get this done before Lou pressed me for any details on what I was doing. Of course, I knew I wasn’t completely off the hook and he would pump me for questions later, but for now, I was in the clear.

I guessed her size and what color she would prefer, choosing to pick it up in the store and sent all of my credit card information through without missing a beat. I seriously had a problem with that website. I’m surprised they didn’t cut me off already.

Smirking to myself, I put my phone away, slipping it into my coat pocket, just in time to see everyone leave. Scarlett was the last to go and I reached for her arm, turning her towards me. I was taken aback by how much emotion her eyes conveyed. It was as though you could see exactly what she was thinking just by looking at her.

“I’m sorry about earlier,” I began, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly, “Kendall…she’s really a nice girl most of the time. And your coat, I’m sorry about that as well.” Kendall was a nice girl, I say, as she sends me one rude text after another. It was times like these that I wondered what I was doing with her, and then I think back to our first date. I think I’m holding onto that memory, hoping for that Kendall to come back. She was so raw and refreshing then, now she’s so vapid. I’d rather be getting braces put in than talk to her sometimes.

Before they all left me, I followed the guys out into the hall, watching as Scarlett seemed self conscious about the stain on her jacket. I was doing the right thing in getting her a new one, this much I knew. If anything, I hoped it would make her feel welcome. Apart of the 1D family, or whatever it was Caroline was always going on about.

The more I listened to Scarlett talk, the more annoyed I was getting with her. I don’t know what it was exactly, but every time she told a story, or explained why she did something a certain way, all it did was reinforce how safe she was. Even though she had gone to school for fashion, there was nothing edgy about her. Hell, even when Louis asked her if she wanted a drink with lunch, she declined, saying it was too early for one.

This was going to be a problem for me. I prayed that this was the reserved Scarlett or a year of this was going to be torture. Not every moment in life could be planned, there was something special about spontaneity.

“So, Scarlett Hawthorn, you mean to tell me that if someone was just like, hey baby let’s head to the beach for the weekend, you would turn them down?” I asked incredulously. I could see the small blush creeping up her cheeks and she responded by taking a sip of water.

“Well, I would hope that Xander wouldn’t dare to spring a trip like that on me. Vacations take planning, you can’t just go on one spur of the moment.” I must’ve been staring at her like she had three heads coming from her neck, because she turned an even darker shade of red. She was Liam, but worse. While she managed to get along with the other guys and keep the conversation going, everything about this girl bugged me.

And she had a boyfriend? What kind of boyfriend would be okay with her spending a year with five boys, jet setting around the world?

I know that my life isn’t as spontaneous as I’d like, with the touring and press schedules and everything, but I would like to think that when I have free time, I do fun and exciting things.

“You alright, man?” Niall asked me, picking up on my sour mood, I suppose. I nodded, vowing to have a separate talk with him later. Out of all of the boys, Niall and I were the most alike. Maybe he felt the same way about her that I did.

As we stood up to head back to the hotel and get ready for our interview tonight, I hung back, checking my phone to see the status on her coat. I overheard Scarlett telling Liam she planned on waking early to take it to the cleaners and hopefully they could get something done express. She planned her whole day around not having a coat already and I knew that delivering her a new one would throw everything off for her. Smirking, I had the coat held in the lobby, wanting to scribble a note along with it. I just knew it would ruin her plans in the morning.

It was like a nice prank.

Hours later, Scarlett was bursting into our room, her new coat in her hand, looking as flustered as I thought she’d be.

“Everything alright, love? You look like a tomato right now,” I said to her, my normal smirk on my face. She was clearly not prepared for me being so nonchalant about all of this, I watched as her mouth opened and closed a few times, obviously struggling with finding something to say.

“Harry, what’d you do to her?” Liam stood up and walked over towards Scarlett, taking the box from her.

“You, I was going to get it cleaned, and this, ugh. It’s too much Harry. I can’t accept this!” It took everything in me to not laugh at her reaction. A whole year with Scarlett was going to be a joy.

“It’s just a coat, Scar,” I scoffed, “It’s not like I asked you to marry me. I told you, I felt bad about what happened, and now you don’t have to wake up in the morning to get it cleaned. I did you a favor.”

Niall shot me a look and I nodded, knowing I had put off chatting with him for too long.

“Its just, I planned my day around that tomorrow,” she started, but I cut her off.

“And now you have time to do something else. Sounds like a win win to me,” I shrugged and began unbuttoning my shirt. We had an appearance tonight and the longer she stood in our room, the less time she would have to go over things with Caroline. “Now if you don’t mind, we need to get dressed. Unless, you’d like to watch.” I looked over at her just in time to see her turn a brighter shade of pink and storm out.

Yes. This was going to be a fun year.

Sorry about the delay, I haven't been feeling too hot, and this felt a bit rushed. If I don't update tomorrow, then for sure on Saturday. Also, be sure to vote/comment. I thrive on feedback, good or bad!
