My Heart Skips A Beat

Chapter 12

ANNA’S POV:
I heard my phone vibrate from where I had hid it under my bed. I had the strong urge to throw it out the window and watch it break into a million pieces. It had been ringing non-stop since Saturday night when Harry’s interview aired.
I had called my parents for maybe the 4th time since I’ve been away to explain everything to them. I had to leave my dad a message because he never answered his phone, and my mom just seemed to be in a whole different world;
“Wow sweetie, that sounds fantastic. I’m glad you’re doing well.” It’s like she didn’t even care. “I’ve gotta run though, the girls and I are going for cocktails in a bit. Love you!” She hung up before I could say anything back. I’m pretty sure my parents hadn’t spoken since they dropped me off at the airport. And even though I’m not living with either of them anymore, the stress of their relationship is still something I can’t help but think about. They’re separating, I can accept that. It’s probably the best thing for all of us anyway. But I’m just scared of what that means for me and Max, who I haven’t seen in ages. He’s always off somewhere; traveling, partying, living his life on his own terms, even if my parents hate it. Sometimes I wish I could be more like Max, not care what my parent’s expectations are. I’m sure everything would be a hell of a lot easier that way, and I can’t help but think that I would be a whole lot happier.
Anyway, It was the beginning of October and definitely starting to feel like fall. I was going over to Harry’s and had to pull on a sweater due to the brisk winds. When I walked outside there were a few people milling about. I started to walk down the street, keeping my head down, when I heard the flash of a camera, then another, then another. I looked behind me to see a few guys with big cameras literally following me. I was nervous; I wasn’t really sure what to do. The only other time this had happened to me had been when I was with someone else; Eleanor, Danielle, Harry, anyone. What was I supposed to do on my own? I sped up a little, pretending that I hadn’t noticed. I heard someone jogging up behind me.
‘Anna Hollis! Anna! Are you and Harry Style’s getting pretty serious?” This guy asked, shoving a camera in my face.
“I- I don’t-“ I kept walking as best I could; a few random people had stopped in their tracks, probably wondering what the yelling was about.
“HEY! Come on, give us a smile!” Another guy said, a bright flash going off.
“I’m sorry, can I please just get through-?” I was starting to get that same feeling I had had in the pub, the night I met Harry. Like there wasn’t enough air. I tried to get out of the crowd, but it was impossible. The photographers were just yelling, pushing, shoving. I was starting to feel my heart racing,
“Anna!” I heard a familiar voice. Suddenly, Harry appeared, pushing his way through the crowd.
“Come on, let’s go.” He held his hand out for me to grab as he took the lead, gently making our way to the street where his car was waiting. He opened the door for me and I slid in. Once we were both inside, door shut, car on, driving down the street, I was able to relax.
“I thought we were meeting at your place?”
“Didn’t you get my message about the pap’s outside your school? I thought it might be better if I come with the car.”
“Oh, yeah… I’ve been sort of ignoring my phone. Sorry.”
“It’s been bad?”
“Just, a lot of calls. Not too bad.” I lied.
“I know, I’m sorry. We should change your number probably. Just to be safe.”
“Yeah…” I let out a sigh, wanting to get rid of the stress of the past few days. I was glad to finally be able to be with Harry for real, but this was all just a little crazy. Hopefully it would die down soon.
“Hey, y’alright?” He asked, putting his hand over mine as he drove.
“Hm? Yeah, just a little tired…” He rubbed his thumb over my knuckle as he held me hand.
“I’m sorry baby, I know it’s a lot…” I could tell he felt guilty which isn’t what I wanted. I didn’t want him to think this was his fault or something.
“Harry, it’s okay. I chose this. It’s okay, it’s just gonna take a bit of getting used to.”
“Yeah, I know, I still feel terrible though. I wish I could do more…”
“You’re doing everything perfectly. I promise.” He gave a small half-smile and I leaned over to his side of the car, kissing him on the cheek. It crazy to think that it’s only been a little over a month since we met. It feels like I’ve known Harry forever.
_____________________________________________________________________________

It’s been almost 2 weeks since the entire country heard Harry Styles say that I was his girlfriend, and the craziness had only managed to die down minimally. It was sort of inconvenient that this was all happening now, since the boys were all so busy. I haven’t really seen Harry all week. Not that I blame him, they’ve got way too much going on to consider just hanging out with me. I definitely do not take it personally. Danielle, Eleanor and I have been hanging out a lot at their place, just doing dumb girly things to pass the time. Halloween was coming up soon and Danielle wanted to have a costume party.
“Anna, you can invite your friends from school! It’ll be so fun!” She had said when she thought of the idea. She was really excited about it, which was good because it gave her something to focus on other than the lack of Liam in her life.
It was actually kind of funny; sometimes, all three of us would get texts from the boys at the same time. As if they had planned it. I was sort of sure that they had. It was cute though, that they at least put that much effort into it.
It wasn’t until Friday night that I got a phone call from Harry.
“Hello?”
“Hey babe, sorry I haven’t called, we’ve been massively busy.”
“Um, who’s this?” I asked jokingly.
“Ha ha, you’re very funny. I know, I’m terrible. I’m sorry. But I want to try and make it up to you.”
“Ohhh, how!?” I asked excitedly.
“Well… What are your plans for this weekend?”
“As of now, nothing. Why, what did you have in mind?”
“I was thinking maybe you and I could go up to my step dad’s Bungalow?” I was a little surprised, then nervous, then excited.
“Is your silence a good thing or a bad thing?” I heard Harry say.
“Oh, no, sorry! Yeah, I would love that!” I said, fiddling with my sweatshirt string nervously.
“Perfect! I’ll come round with the car tomorrow morning. Say, 7 ish? I know it’s early and your mind doesn’t properly function until at least 10 but I was thinking the earlier the better to avoid the paps and stuff.” He was talking a mile a minute and it was so adorable that it sort of got rid of the knot of nerves in my stomach, almost.
“Yup, that sounds good.”
“Lovely. I’m so excited babe, I’ll see you bright and early.”
“Alright, see you.”
We hung up and I just sat on my bed for a while, thinking. And after about 15 minutes I made the conclusion;
I was ready. I was really ready for whatever this trip may bring.
