Shattered

Chapter eight,

"Mom, can you drop me off at work?" I asked my mom as she came downstairs.

" What happened sweetie?" She grabbed her keys.

" My car wouldn't start yesterday so I had to get a ride and stuff." Please no more questions.

" Oh. Who gave you a ride?" We walked towards the door.

" Harry offered." I shrugged.

" hmm. You know I never really liked him, but he's growing on me."

We got into the car and my mother took a right at the end of the road, on our way to Chumps.

" How is work going?" She broke the silence.

" Uh, it's going good." I tapped my finger against the arm rest.

" I feel like I haven't spoken to you in ages. My little girl is growing up! So you haven't been in danger or any trouble at your new job?" She asked I rolled my eyes. I know she's just worried but I'm tired of all her questions.

" Nope. No danger. No fights. For the most part, all the people are scared of Harry so they've never tried anything." I said. My mother nodded.

" He's pretty intimidating."

We finally pulled up to Chumps and I noticed the hood of my car open.

" Uh, thanks mom, bye." I got out in a hurry before she could ask curious questions about my car. She slowly pulled out of the parking lot.

I walked led up to my car and saw Harry leaned into it.

" Harry?" I asked. I guess I surprised him, because he stood upright quickly, hitting his head on the inside of the hood.

" Shit!" He grabbed his head.

" I'm so sorry!" I said walking towards him, debating if I should fell the back of his head. He nodded.

" I'll be fine. You scared the shit out of me." He sighed. I giggled.

" I see that."

We stood there in silence for a couple moments.

" So uh... What are you doing to my car?" I asked, seeing two chords hooked up to my battery, connecting their way to Harry's. He was jump starting it.

" I'm jump starting it for you. I got here earlier so I could see what was wrong with your car and your battery was dead, that's all." He responded.

" Oh. Well... Thank you Harry. It means a lot." I smiled. It really did.

" Well, it's the least I could do for last night. " He shrugged.

My mind wandered back to last night's events and my head played the scene where me and Harry fought.

" Yeah. Don't worry about it, I was being a little over dramatic anyways."

He bent down and unhooked the chords.

" So was I."

I watched Harry as he unhooked them from his car too and wraveled them up, and placing them in the trunk if his car.

" It should work. Why don't you try it?" He asked. I pulled the keys from my purse and unlocked the doors, climbing in and starting the engine.

" Works as good as new!" I smiled before taking the key out of the ignition and watch my car slowly die down. " Thanks Harry. I was really worried about it actually." I smiled and hopped out of my car.

" Don't get used to it." He winked. I looked away before I could realize I was Blushing. What? " C'mon, let's go open up." He said.

I followed him inside and began the evening.
•••••
It was around 9:00 and I was over by the pool tables cleaning up a bit.

" Oh! Did you see that!" I heard someone yell after they shot their pool. I heard a clink of balls again and then a " No."

I silently chuckled to myself. idiots.

I felt a tap on my should. I spun around and saw Chance.

" Chance!" I said.

" Hey Sydney." He smiled.

" What's going on?" I asked politely. He shrugged.

" Nothing really. Hey you know you never called me." He half smiled. My grin faded.

"Oh yeah. I'm so sorry I've been working extra lately and I've just been really busy." I smiled. He followed me as I went around the bar. He sat down on a barstool.

" How about I take you out tomorrow?" He asked. I placed a napkin down for him.

" Erm... Sure. Ha-ha. I guess you can just pick me up from work." I smiled sweetly, Harry's words playing in the back of my mind.

" Okay. Sounds good. See you then." He smiled and stood up, leaving the bar.
•••••
Harry and I closed up Chumps and began cleaning in silence.

" Can you go down to the cellar and get some more Jack Daniels for tomorrow before I can forget?" Harry asked. I nodded.

I've never been down there before. I walked to the brown wooden door towards the back of the room and slowly creaked it open.

I guess you could say I was scared.

each step I took had a faint creak in the wood, and every inch closer I got, the colder it became. I turned the light on in the bottom and was exposed to isles and isles of crates with dark bottles and then clear bottles. They probably had every type of liquor you could think of down here.

I finally found the Jack Daniels and picked up two bottles. That'd probably be enough.

I made my way back up to the main floor, quickly getting out of the cellar.

Harry chuckled as he saw me rush from the basement.

" What's wrong?" He asked, clearly amused.

" Nothing." I responded as I set the bottles up where they belonged.

" Were you... Scared?" He teased. I sighed.

" No." I said very arrogantly.

" Oh okay. So you won't mind going down there again real quick?" He asked, putting another chair up.

" Uhm..." I thought of something to say. I really did not want to. That cellar freaked me out.

" I'm kidding. I'll go down there for now on." He smiled. I gave him an uneasy grin back before helping put up chairs.

" Are you going to the party tomorrow night?" He asked.

" I Uhm... Chance is actually picking me up after work." I forced a smile.

• Harry's pov •

" Are you going to the party tomorrow night?" I asked curiously. I wanted her to go.

" I Uhm.." She stuttered. " Chance is actually picking me up from work." She smiled. I could tell it was fake because she didn't show her teeth.

" Why?"

He didn't deserve her.

" Because he's my friend and is like to get to know him better."

I didn't know what to say.

" You remember what I said about him ok? I don't want you getting hurt." I warned. She nodded.

" I know. I'm totally aware." Sydney's blue eyes could be seen from across the room.

" Okay..."

I was for some reason upset that Sydney couldnt go to the party. I had been looking foward to maybe hanging out with her like last time, and I did not want her to go out with Fucking Chance.
