I Stand Amazed
Chapter Five
Exhausted after such a long day, I fell asleep on the couch in my jeans and soccer jersey.
I woke up to an annoying buzzing sound. I blinked open my groggy eyes and saw soft light streaming in through the curtains. My phone was shoved underneath my stomach on the couch and I saw the screen was lit up with a message. Wondering who would text me so early, I unlocked my phone and saw that it was from Niall.
My heart raced and I could hardly believe what I was seeing. He actually texted me back! It kind of scared me; the effect he had on me. I mean, all the boy had done was send me a text and I was having heart palpitations.
Hey love sorry this is so late I fell asleep right when I got home :( xx.
I quickly typed a reply and then got up to go shower.
It's okay! So how are you today?
I grabbed some shorts and a shirt, as well as new underwear and a sports bra and headed to the bathroom. Turning the shower on, I let the water heat up for a minute and then undressed. Stepping under the warm water, I washed my hair and body, shaved, and then let the water run down my back. A few minutes later, I shut off the faucet and stepped out, drying myself off with a towel and then dressed. I pulled my hair up in a bun, not bothering to blow dry it, just running my towel over my head a couple times. I then proceded to snatch my phone off the couch, stuff it in my bra, and head out the door after making sure I had my room key.
I realized once I was in the elevator that I'd forgotten my knee brace and grumbled as I went back to my room.
Once I finally came to the gym the hotel had on the main floor, I sat down on a bench and stepped into my brace, strapping it up with ease. A year ago I tore my ACL in a soccer game, and it put me out for about for six months. I could play now, but I had to wear a special running brace whenever I did. I hated it, but I knew it would protect me from another possible injury.
I was the only person taking advantage of the facility and I began on a treadmill, just a light jog. After half an hour I began to pick up the pace until I was running pretty fast. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do; getting back into shape after I got injured. But I was fully healed now and I've never been so thankful for anything.
I slowed to a walk, breathing hard, my hands behind my head. Running was something I liked to do to clear my thoughts. I didn't know London well enough to run on the steets or in a park, so the gym would have to do for now.
I checked my phone after I dismounted the treadmill and smiled when I saw I had another text from Niall.
I'm great :) what are you doing today? xx.
Nothing really. Just went for a run. You?
I'm free today. May I see you? :D xx.
I grinned. He wanted to see me!
Of course! I'm about to go grab some coffee close to my hotel. Meet me there?
I'll be there xx.
I felt a warm sensation spread throughout my body as I could only think about what would happen. I quickly told him which hotel I was staying at and we agreed on the nearest Starbucks.
Looking at the time, I realized it was only about fifteen minutes until we agreed to meet. I wasn't sweaty hardly so I left the hotel in my workout clothes and walked to the coffee house in the London morning chill. I loved the cold weather, even though I'm from Texas.
I arrived and ordered a coffee and sat down, waiting. I grabbed some napkins and a pen and began to doodle randomly and then I decided to draw the empty tea cup over at the next table. As I sketched I felt free, as I always did while drawing. Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It allowed me to express myself in ways that I couldn't when I was playing soccer.
A familiar voice said from over my shoulder, "Any other talents of yours I need to know?" I rotated my head and met Niall's bright blue eyes and smiled happily.
