I Stand Amazed

Chapter Two

A clock outside the stadium informed me only five minutes until kick off, and I hastily made my way through the doors, slowing down to pass through security. They checked my bag and I tapped my foot, dying to go and find my seat. The lady who swiped my ticket gave me a half-hearted gesture to her left, looking bored, indicating my seat was in that direction. I hurried off as fast as my tired legs would allow me.

Screams and cheers echoed through the main halls and I mentally cursed myself for leaving the airport so late. I knew I couldn’t bear to miss any second of the game, so I just jogged to the nearest field entrance and turned to walk quickly up the steps. It seemed every seat was taken and I knew I didn’t have time to go find mine, so I just continued up until I found a private box section that seemed unused from where I was standing.

Relieved I’d found somewhere to sit, I stepped into the box and sat down in the first chair I saw. Huffing slightly, I took off my bag from around my shoulders and set it down in front of me. I rubbed my hands together excitedly and bounced my knees up and down as I saw the two teams enter onto the pristine pitch.

The sound of someone clearing their throat loudly snapped me out of my fixation and I turned my head. A large group of people were in fact sitting in the box. How could I miss that?

A large man in black standing in the back cleared his throat again and asked me, “Excuse me? What are you doing here?”

I paled; I knew this wasn’t my seat. “Umm…Listen, I’m really sorry, but I was running late and I didn’t want to miss any of the game so I just found the only open seats as soon as I got here and I don’t mean to be rude I’m really sorry I’ll just leave, “ I blurted out, rambling a bit in an extremely embarrassing way.

I heard a few chuckles and a voice said, “No worries, love, you can stay. As long as you aren’t really weird…” There came the sound of a smack and a muffled protest, while another voice scolded, “Louis! Don’t be rude!”

I slowly stood up, clutching my bag, and my eyes adjusted and I nearly fainted at the sight before me. Five boys were sitting in the chairs occupying the front row of the box, splayed out casually and dressed warmly. They were all ridiculously good-looking, each having their own qualities that made them unique. I stared at these five faces that I knew so well from endless twitter photos and magazine covers. I blinked in disbelief as I realized I was not five yards away from One Direction, perhaps the most famous boy band in the world.

They continued to stare at me. I blushed and stammered, “Well, yeah, I guess I’m a little weird, but…no I’ll just be going, sorry to bother y’all!” I turned to exit the box, but the closest boy, Harry, stood up quickly and grabbed my arm.

“You don’t have to leave! If you can’t find your seat, then just sit here. There are plenty of extras.”

I stared at him again, dumbfounded. “Are you sure? I wouldn’t want a fan to ruin my night if I were you.”

He smiled and I nearly fainted; his smile was so unbelievably breathtaking. “I think we can handle one fan for a night, don’t you think, lads?” A chorus of aye’s met my ears and several grinning faces looked up at me.

Harry released my arm and sat back down, patting the chair beside him. The chairs were arranged in a loose semi-circle, so I was able to sit next to Harry, yet still see the other boys clearly. I sat down shakily and tentatively put my bag down again. They all watched me, amusement in their eyes, and I probably seemed like the lamest person on the planet right now.

“So, what’s your name?” Liam asked me politely. “Maddie,” I responded, barely believing this was actually happening. “Are you a big fan?” Zayn asked, and I nodded, smiling.

“Yeah, I really love your music; I’m such a huge fan.”

“Not to sound really rude again, but why aren’t you screaming and everything?” Louis said.

I laughed at that, “Well, I guess I’m not a perpetually excited person. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love y’all, but I’m just not the type to freak out and start hemorrhaging from screaming too much or something….I’m a pretty chill person. Plus, wouldn’t you want to just be treated normally for once?”

All five boys nodded, while Harry whispered to Louis, “Wow, she uses big words.”

I chuckled and turned my attention to the field and gasped. The game had already started!
