My Saviour

Kylie’s P.O.V
I looked at Lauren standing over me and she was looking out of the window. What she just told me hurt in two ways, one, she said about Dad. I’d really forgotten why I was here and then she reminded me. Two, I just hurt that innocent guy because I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know that he saved my life. “How long have I known him?” I asked Lauren. I still can’t get over how my voice sounds. This isn’t me.
“Urm, whilst you were conscious, a day.” She smiled to herself.
“What?” I can’t imagine how confused I must look right now. My mind is so messed up.
“You slept with him babe. You got drunk and went home with him. He harassed you for a day coming to our house and stuff but then you ran to him when you ran away from Dad. He found you when you were dying. Ben and I were at his house and he brought you back. Let’s just say I don’t think you’ll ever be the same person again. You’re different now Ky. So different. But Harry is the person who saved your life and part of the reason you nearly died. Dad got mad because you slept with him, I told you to run, you ran to Harry’s but then Dad got Ben so you came back. And took the damage yourself.” Her voice went quiet at the end. “We’ve all been here, praying for you but blaming ourselves. If Harry hadn’t have taken you home, if I hadn’t have told you to run, if Imogen hadn’t have given you her car, if Ben hadn’t have been caught by Dad. Literally, all of us have been blaming ourselves. And then when mum came, god that was hell. She was shouting at me to let her see you but I didn’t think you’d want her to. She held your hand for a while but I stopped her. She left us like this so I don’t see why she should be allowed back in when you’re dying.” She explained. That’s when I noticed her arm. It was in a cast and sling.
“What happened to your arm?” I questioned.
“Oh urm, Dad twisted it when I tried to stop him taking Ben. The same thing that happened to yours I’d expect.” She gestured to my right arm which was in a cast.
“How bad am I?” I whispered.
“They were talking about turning off your life support. There’s a possibility that you’re paralysed from the waist down and will never walk again and I hate to tell you this but you can never have children. He destroyed your organs, punched you in the stomach so much. When they operated they had to take one of your ovaries out and then whilst you were unconscious you got an infection on the other one and they had to take that out too. I’m so sorry Ky.” She told me. I felt like my heart had plummeted. I’ve always wanted children. That was my one goal in life, to have a child and look after it. I felt the tears drip down my face and wiped it away with my working arm. “I know you always wanted kids. I’m sorry. I wish I could have done something. They did freeze some of your eggs that weren’t affected though so maybe when you find a guy then you can have a surrogate or something like that for you.” Lauren said sitting down.
“Really? They can do that?”
“Yep. I’ll even be your surrogate if it comes to it.” She smiled making me smile too.
“Thank you. What else is wrong with me?” I asked.
“Well, your right arm is broken and the left one is fractured so it might hurt a bit but not much. You’ve got a couple of broken ribs like you’ve had before and like I said, you could be paralysed. Can you feel this?” She put her hand on my leg. I shook my head no and she did the same to the other one. Again, nothing. “Well, that’s not good but it could improve.” She reminded me. I agreed and we talked for a while and Ben came in. “Where’s Harry?” Lauren asked him.
“Sitting outside. He doesn’t want to leave but he was crying when she didn’t know who he was.” Ben said.
“I’m here Ben.” I laughed making my chest hurt. “Ouch.” I grabbed my chest.
“What’s wrong?” Lauren looked at me with a panicked expression.
“It just hurt to laugh. I’m fine.” I said.
“You’re in hospital, you’re far from fine.” She answered and went outside, presumably to talk to Harry. The nurse came in then.
“Your boyfriend is very handsome you know.” She smiled at me. I don’t have a boyfriend. What is she talking about?
“Urm, I don’t-” I started but Ben cut me off.
“She’s really confused right now, she doesn’t really remember him.” He said quickly. Is Harry my boyfriend? Or did they say that so he’d be allowed to stay?
“Oh right, sorry. How are you feeling love?” She asked.
“Okay, I can’t feel my legs though.” I said.
“Yeah, you might have to get used to that. You could be paralysed from the waist down but hopefully you’ll improve whilst you’re here. I’ll leave you to talk to your brother now. He’s missed you honey.” She smiled and left the room with my clipboard.
“That is so not true.” Ben said.
“Oh but it is. You’ve missed me haven’t you Ben?” I smiled and ruffled his hair.
“You saved me. I didn’t want you to die because you saved me.” He replied.
“I’m strong, that won’t happen.” I assured him. “How’s school?” I asked.
“Rubbish. Everyone keeps saying that I’m a wimp because I can’t stand up to my dad and have to get my sister to do it for me.” He looked down and started picking at his hand.
“Hey, it’s not your fault. Dad’s strong, look at me. I’m here because of him.” I reminded him.
“Please stop saying that. I don’t want to talk about him. He’s still out there. Lauren’s worried he’ll come back.” Ben said.
“He wouldn’t dare. He’d get arrested straight away don’t worry. You’ll be fine. Lauren and I have got you.” He nodded and Lauren came back in with Harry.
“Hey.” Harry said.
“Hi, I’m sorry. I honestly didn’t know what you’d done for me.” I apologised.
“Don’t worry about it. Urm, I said you could stay at mine when you get out of here but I can change that if you don’t want to.” He informed me.
“No, that’s fine. Thanks.” I smiled at him.
