Making it official
Chapter 9: making it official.
December 22nd.
It was the first time the whole gang gathered around in Liam´s house, which he had been sharing with Diana after she actually opened up to him too. Liam´s parents were the coolest and had allowed him to lend the guest room in the house to the lovely blonde girl. Everyone was called for at his place to decide whether they would be participating in the Talent Show or not.
Liam´s point of view:
Diana and I have become really close these last days and I´m glad. Being I an old Sydney´s Grammar School student I always saw her as a strong girl who wouldn´t let anyone break down her walls. But I also thought she was tough, pedantic and arrogant. And I was really wrong and glad she had made my thoughts change. We two were quite similar in many aspects but really different in how we let others see us. Everyone out there knew I was the sensitive and sensible guy and that I was really lovey-dovey. But it was totally different with her. I felt the need of protecting her, of lighting a fire in her eyes and make her feel great again. I had known “both” Diana´s and I knew that she was missing the old one, who laughed out loud at any stupid joke, who teased every single guy, acknowledging her beauty, who wore makeup and nice hairstyles to impress not only every single guy but herself, and who was happy and delighted to live the life she had. I wanted to protect her and to hold her tightly when she felt like everything was falling apart, to tell her “everything´s going to be fine” and to feel her embrace. But I wasn´t sure if I would be able to get that far with her. After all the Harry drama she had built really tall walls around her and didn´t want to love again. But, would she ever love again?
After this little chat with my inner me I decided to go to where everyone else was, the living room. I had left to the kitchen to look for some beers and drinks for all of us. I had four microphones and a guitar. Niall had brought his own guitar as well as Anto had brought the piano for our first big practice. We decided to play “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, a song we all loved and that fitted everyone´s voices perfectly. After that, we all sat infront of the TV to “vote” about participating or not in the big Talent Show.
I started off by saying I was totally into the idea and that I really wanted to win the thing to buy some stuff I needed and a gift for a special someone (ejem,ejem,Diana). I was glad my thoughts were shared by Louis and Harry who gladly accepted and voted for participating. Zayn said he wouldn´t be able to play the drums because of his condition as School Director and we all understood him. However, we did need a drummer and Finn offered himself to play the drums but only for the Talent Show, not as an actual band member. Di said she would sing a song on her own, which surprised us all and Anto was a bit shy and insecure about performing in public in the beginning but we could finally convince her. Niall was all pumped up and told everyone he thought we wouldn´t want to participate, that he was extremely happy and couldn´t stop craving pizza like crazy. It was it. We were actually participating in the biggest happening in the Academic Year and we were all beyond excited and delighted, this was a one in a life chance. During last year´s Talent Show, the one and only Ellen had been there as she was around Australia to meet her girlfriend family. And we all knew the also one and only Simon Cowell would be visiting our well known school for the closing ceremony.
Our Talent Shows consisted of three stages, which took place in three different days. During the first one, every contestant sang/performed/whatever for the first time and half of the participants were chosen to perform again the following day, with a brand new song and style. The third day included a first performance after which each of the acts was either kept or eliminated and a final performance for those who remained in the competition. Right after that, the top three were announced and prizes were determined.
So, yep, we had to prepare 4 songs and they all had to be perfect. Everyone who was not in the band left my house and went to discuss whatever matters they wanted to. These included Chiara and Diana. After that, Harry was the first one to speak.
“So guys, I don´t know and really do not want to know, Diana has had quite a drastic emotional breakdown. And part of this issue is mine and Louis´ fault. As unexpected as this all may be for you guys, I started dating Diana because I felt as if our relationship could actually work, until I realized my heart didn’t´ beat the way it did for her but for another special someone. And this person could only be Louis. The thought of being so into a guy hadn´t been around my head before all this happened. But I´m glad of how things have turned around in such a short period and I really hope all of you “approve” our relationship. But even if you don´t, we have to participate in this Talent Show and dedicate the first song to our wounded girl. Louis and I have outlined some lines of the chorus of a song and we would really like to show it to you guys to see what you think”.
I was the first one to react after the bomb Harry had thrown and said “I´m happy for you guys. And it being only us, some of the persons I trust the most, I wanna tell you I think Diana is growing on me. I may “throw myself to the pool”. But I´m not sure if it will work. I just feel the need of making her feel well okay. And I´m glad you guys have decided to fight for your happiness, continuing with this situation would have been counterproductive for all of us. Congratulations. And about dedicating her a song, I approve the idea. I just think maybe we shouldn´t name her directly as she may feel sort of exposed, ya know? So, show us what you´ve got!”
Louis and Harry started singing and in fact they had composed something that had her name in it. It didn´t piss me but I would have preferred if they had realized it was wrong.
After a few hours of working in the lyrics and the music, we got a gorgeous song, ready to be played in front of the whole school. And we also decided we would use prewritten songs for the other three as we didn´t have that much time.
