Listening to Niall

I just got off the tub making my way to where Niall is supposed to meet me. He called letting me know he'll be a few minutes late and I should wait at the bus stop up ahead. I put my bag down taking in a deep breath. Harry gave me a ride to the tube helping me with the bag all the way to the station. So I haven't realized how heavy it was until now. I was gazing around at my surroundings admiring the view. A car stopped by my side. I turned my head smiling sure it was Niall.
"Hello love! Can I give you a ride somewhere?" It was some sort of sports car with two blokes in it. I was confused to why they have stopped. I looked sideways making sure they were in fact talking to me.
"Yes love. I'm speaking to you" the lad closer to me chuckled.
"Sorry" I mumbled back.
"So what do you say? Fancy a ride with us?" He gave me a cocky smile
"No thank you" I say raising my eyes to the road looking for Niall.
"Forget it she's just a stuck up bird" the driver said starting the car again. They started driving away. I couldn't help but smile to myself for this weird situation. Before I knew it they reverse back to me lowering the window once again "might be snobby but boy what a smile" the driver winked.
"Thank you" I said trying hard to hold my giggle.
"If we can't give you a ride than how about a number? We can go out for coffee or something" the bloke closer to me offered.
"Thanks but I have a feeling my boyfriend won't be too happy about that arrangement" I winked
"Haa of course.. A beauty like that will already be claimed" the driver told his friend
"Well then.. We don't play around with other people's girlfriends.. Have a lovely day love" he waved and they drove off. I was smiling to myself shaking my head at this strange event.
"What are you smiling about?" This time it was Niall's face staring back at me. He got out the car hurrying to my side and wrapping me in his arms. He bent down kissing my lips softly.
"Mmm I've missed this" I said gazing up at him.
"This or me?" He asked
"Both" I giggled
"Come here cheeky" he gave me another long squeeze.
"Sorry for making you wait in this weather" he reached for my bag.
"Its fine I'll just remember that next time" I winked getting into the parked vehicle. "Gosh I'm freezing.. put on the heat for me please" I ask of him.
"So my cousins are over for Xmas. . I'm just warning you they are a little crazy" he started up the car and adjust the heat on me.
"I'm down for crazy family on holidays" I give him thumbs up.
"Good.. They are all dying to meet you"
"I can't wait to meet your cousin what is his name? The one you keep telling me about?"
"Deo? Yeah him and his brother Martin are on their way.. Probably get in before us"
"So Niall.. I didn't get into the workshop" I made a sad face
"ohh babe I'm sorry... When did you find out?"
"Yesterday"
"And only now you tell me?" He raised his eye brows at me
"Well I was really sad and Harry and El were with me" I shrugged.
"Oh so Harry and El are good enough.. You don't need me to make your sadness go away?"
"It’s not like that" I give him a little smack on the arm
"I know I'm just messing with you" he laughed
"Anyway it all works out for the best since Mia wanted me to be a bridesmaid" I smiled
"She did? I didn't realize you two were so close" he said
"You two might not be close but El, Perrie and I am really friendly. I mean obviously they aren’t bridesmaids but they are invited"
"When is this wedding?" Niall stopped at a red light.
"Fourth of February, you will be joining me" I pock his arm at the same place I smacked him moments ago.
"What for? You don't need me there" He said, starting again as the light changed.
"I want you there and Louis and Zayn will be going too as the girl's dates"
"I'll see"
"You'll be there" I decide for him.
Niall stopped the car in front of his family home.
"Your family goes all out for Christmas hey?" I smile looking up at the decorated house. They had shimmering lights wrapped around the rails going up the stairs. The snowman in the garden had some lights on him too. You could see the tree sparkling through the window lights playing on the glass.
"It's absolutely incredible" I say turning to look at him.
"Ready love?" He took my hand in his and my bag in the other and led us up the walkway to the front door.
"Niall's home" I heard a little kids voice
"Let's race to Niall" we hear footsteps and a little boy appeared followed by a young lad who've I seen just before.
"Blimey Niall! Is this girly Jamie?"
"Fancy seeing you again" I giggled at the shocked face of the sports car driver.
"Bloody hell Martin come see who it is"
"Am I missing something?" Niall seemed confused
"Hello again" Martin the lad from the passenger side of the sports car came into view.
"So you're Deo then" I laughed.
"Sure am darling" he smiled and offered me his hand to shake.
"When did you three meet?" Niall wanted to know.
"Moments before you showed up" I beamed at him "your cousin he wasn't too happy with me.. I believe he called me a stuck up snob"
"Well now... you must know I came back and told her she had a lovely smile" Deo put up a hand.
"Yes yes I was there I vouch for him" Martin said
"I can't believe you tried hitting on my girlfriend" Niall shook his head though he had a big smile on his face.
"Well the moment I said I had a boyfriend they backed off" I tapped his arm.
"Theo" Niall reached out to the little boy standing next to Deo "Come meet Jamie"
"Hello darling" I smile at him "What a lovely boy" I say to Greg, Niall's brother who just joined us
"Jamie! Nice meeting you again" He kissed my cheek
"You too love, where is your mum? I must say hello" I pace around Niall and little Theo and walk into the living room.
The space was full of people, sitting around talking and laughing enjoying the serene afternoon. There were young kids sitting on the carpet playing and sharing some toys.
"Jamie- Lovely to see you" Maura got up to greet me.
"You too, you've done such an amazing job with the tree- its beautiful" I kissed her cheek and gave her a warm hug.
"Hi mum" Niall walked into the living room with Theo still in his arms.
"Hello darling, make sure Jamie is comfortable - offer her something to drink"
After greeting the rest of Niall's family we settled in the quiet kitchen, Niall getting us something to eat.
"So, what do you think?" He asked sitting down by my side.
"They are charming" I smiled "They are so warm".
"Ni" Deo came to sit with us followed by Martin "What are your plans for today?"
"Well after the family supper and party my friends are getting together at Leo's house"
"Let's go" Martin banged down his hands on the table.
"It's up to Jamie" Niall glanced at me
"Sure why not, I never met your friends from home"


As we entered the noisy home Deo leaned over near to my ear "Today you'll see what it's like to really have fun"
I clenched Niall's hand entwining our fingers together. Truth is I was a little overwhelmed meeting all of his friends he grew up with.
"Niall Shannon's here" Martin said nodding towards a beautiful girl, with long blond hair, wearing a red dress with a matching Santa hat on her head dancing with a red cup in her hand.
Niall glanced at me and then back at Martin giving him a slight shake of his head. He pulls me to the kitchen so we can get some drinks of our own, not letting go of my hand, his two cousins following.
"Nialler!" Someone slammed into him giving him a big hug, making me fall back. I was caught by Deo standing slightly behind me "Watch it love" He held on to my arm.
"Paul, meet Jamie" Niall not letting go of my hand pulled me closer to him and introduced me to his friend.
"Hi" I smiled at the half drunk lad standing in front of me.
"You all right?" He smiled at me "Nice meeting you finally"
"Same here" I am looking around the room at the people shouting, talking and dancing, my eyes keep going back to the blond girl in the red dress.
"Come on" Niall pulls me to the kitchen noting my glimpses at the blond female.
"What would you fancy?" He asked picking up a bottle off the counter and reading the label.
"Whatever you're having" I say smiling at the people who keep coming up to say hello.
I find myself standing next to Niall as he talks and laughs with friends. I wasn't feeling too left out, but I didn't really fit in either. Niall had his hand wrapped round my waist keeping me close to him. Here and there someone would ask me a question and try to be welcoming but I see they are a too tight group not really feeling the need to help me join in.
Deo was dancing with a red head cup up in the air, I gave a little giggle watching him have fun. Not far from him the red dress girl was laughing with a few other people Paul, Niall's friend one of them.
Suddenly the red dress girl called Shannon looked up at me. Our eyes locked and she gave me a little smile. Paul leaned closer to her saying something in her ear. I can see her smile tense and then she turned back to her friends.
"Don't pay any attention to her" Martin said to me.
"I'm not" I look up at him but we both know it's a lie.
I let go of Niall's hand excusing myself to go refill my cup.
Two years ago Niall had this thing with Shannon, not really sure what to call it.
She was all he could take about for months, telling me how his friend Nate had a younger sister who was all grown up now. He did say how amazing she looked but I have never seen a photo of her. She is a stunning girl. I reach for a bottle without looking to see what I took. Seeing Shannon made me lose all interest of staying at this party making my self esteem go way down.
"Hi there" I turn to see two girls standing behind me.
"Oh hi" I smile
"I'm Ronda, and this is Cassy" Ronda was the red head Deo was dancing with a moment ago. She reached over and took the same bottle I just used filling up two cups and handing one over to Cassy.
"So you're Niall's new girl" Cassy smiled at me.
"I'm Jamie" I smiled before taking a sip of my drink.
"Nice to finally meet you" She said
"Yeah.. for a moment we all thought he was making you up" Ronda laughed
"How so?" This was a strange thought, why would he make me up?
"Well, he kept telling us he has a girlfriend from College, but we thought he was just saying that to make Shannon jealous" Cassy enlightened me.
"Oh" Was the only thing I could think of saying.
"Yeah and then there was that weekend you were supposed to come but you didn't" Ronda continued
"Well, I'm here now and I am very real too" I grin at them. I can feel my smile hasn't reached my eyes, but the girls are too occupied with themselves to notice.
"Isn't Shannon like beautiful?" Cassy gushed "I mean that dress of hers"
"Cassy, it's not nice talking that way about her in front of Jamie" Ronda quiets her.
"Oh gosh sorry, I wasn't thinking" But she didn't look sorry
"It's absolutely fine, no worries" I say "Excuse me" I shift pass them and walk back to where I left Niall and his friends.
There were a few people still standing talking, but Niall wasn't with them.
"Martin, have you seen Ni?" I tap his shoulder.
"No love, is something wrong?" He looked concern
"No, just looking for him" I smiled
"Would you like some help?"
"No it's ok, I don't want to take you away from your friends"
I look around for him in the crowd.
"He went outside" Someone said into my ear. I look to see Paul standing to my left.
"Thanks" I say and head out.
I push past the doors and out to the back garden. The air was too cold to be hanging outside.
I take the corner to where I heard voices, to see Niall standing back to me opposite Shannon.
She looks up noticing me, a big smile painted on her face.
