Save My Love

And there it went. The last day of school flew by like any other usual day of the week. When that last bell rang, all I could remember was flying out of the building with Sammi hot on my heels. Finally. No more tests or quizzes to not study for.

My best friend and I did our annual celebratory routine for when school got out (watching movies until we were dead asleep) like always, but it seemed strange. We both were quieter than normal. Last time we had a long break, we were spending it with two other goofballs as well. We both knew it was the elephant in the room, but neither of us spoke of it.

"You know," Sammi began, "I'm starting to feel tired already," she commented halfway through the first movie.

"Me too, a bit," I agreed, even though the clock read 4 in the afternoon.

Nonetheless, I grabbed some extra pillows and blankets for the both of us and let them down on the couch. Maybe it was all the extra exhaustion built up over the year, or maybe I'd just slept bad the night previous, but before I knew it, I wasn't watching the movie anymore.

When I woke up, however, someone else was. I rubbed my eyes and sat up to see Niall sitting on the couch where Sammi resided earlier.

"How'd you get in here?"

"Sammi had to go and let me in on her way out. How's your summer going?" he asked, as if he hadn't been ignoring me for a number of weeks and months.

"Just dandy," I mumbled, curling back up under the blankets and shutting my eyes.

"Don't go back to sleep! You just got up!"

"Yeah, and I'm still tired. Why'd you come by, anyway?"

"I told you we would be able to hang out more when you were out of school."

"I didn't know that meant you had to give me the silent treatment until then."

"I was just playing it safe. For multiple reasons."

"How is Harry, anyway? First time he's bothered to listen to my request and actually leave me alone for once."

"I don't know, and I don't care to find out."

"Oh," I shrugged, brushing off the subject and closing my eyes again.

"Please stay awake," he begged.

"No! I'm wiped out. Let me nap."

I thought I'd won my tiny battle and was about to drift back off when the pillows beneath my head were rudely ripped away.

"What the?!"

"Just hold on second," Niall replied, sitting down where the pillows once were.

"Now lay down and take your nap," he continued softly, placing one of the pillows on his lap as my head went down to meet it.

"You're so weird," I mumbled, yanking the blanket up to my chin while getting resituated.

"Just go with it."

He then kissed my temple, but I was too sleepy to recognize it, and I shut down.
