Harry’s POV
As Ana is crying into my shoulder, I think back to all the times I saw her beautiful smiling face on a poster in an alley or on a billboard. I hate when I realize that people can do cruel things. I compare the girl sobbing on my shoulder to the girl from the flyers. What happened in that basement and why can’t she go to the police? Without thinking twice, I tell her she can stay here.
“I can’t let you do that for me,” She tells me. I laugh. She’s completely vulnerable with no place to go. What else is there for her to do?
“You can and you will.” My voice is stern but cautious. I don’t want her to get the wrong idea and think that I’m making her stay here like that creep Kyle did. All of a sudden, I realize the boys could be a problem. I sort of doubt she’s into the whole ‘touching’ thing. Whenever I tried to grab her shoulder or arm she freaked out in the street and looked like she was ready to punch me. The boys are all about hugging and cuddling. What if they don’t understand?
“How can you be so willing to let a complete stranger who looks like this stay with you?” Ana gestured to her body and I take it in for the first time. I had noticed her muscles and her ribs before, but I see the scars, bruises, and fresh cuts for the first time. They’re everywhere in varying stages of healing. I gasp at how someone could do this to her. It looks like Kyle beat her, stabbed her, cut her and everything in between.
I can see that she is self conscious about it as she pulls her arms back around herself.
“I didn’t do it to myself,” she states defensively. How could she believe I’d think that?
“I didn’t think you did! How could somebody do this to you? I’m so sorry that you had to go through all that you did. I know I don’t know the half of the pain you went through those four month, and I know I don’t know you yet, but I can’t believe someone could do that to someone as sweet as you.” Her face flushes a bright pink and I grin. It’s always good to know how to make someone blush.
“How about the food…” she expertly changes the topic. I stand up right away and rush to the kitchen. I look back and see she was standing hesitantly at the entrance to the kitchen.
“What do you like to eat?” I ask her, gesturing to the open fridge stocked with goods. Her mouth drops open as she comes closer.
“He hardly ever gave me any food. If he did it was stale bread or moldy lettuce,” she says, looking me in the eye. I can’t get over her beautiful face. Her wavy red hair flows down to her waist. You can tell it hadn’t been taken care of, but it framed her oval face perfectly. She had large almond shaped hazel eyes that I could stare into for days. I don’t realize I’m staring at her until she shuffles her feet and drops her gaze to the floor.
“Eat anything you want! We’ve got plenty of food,” I reassure her. I reach up into a cupboard and bring down a bottle of wine while she grabs some chocolate chip cookie dough. We look at each other’s choices and she took a step away from me when she saw the bottle in my hand. Am I ever going to stop screwing up?
“I d-don’t drink,” she stutters. I’ve noticed that whenever she gets scared, Ana stutters. It’s extremely sad but also kind of adorable. I put down the bottle on the counter and grab her hands.
“You don’t have to, Ana. I’m not going to hurt you love.” She smiles up at me only inches from my face. She frees her hands from mine but doesn’t move away. She slowly moves the cookie dough up until it’s right between our faces.
“Then let’s get chowing,” she laughs. I grin and grab two spoons from the drawer.
“Let’s.”
